In terms following this i think we can get off the watch list and then its up to the governor to lift the restrictions. Cannabis says that he would like to keep the ordinance in place for as long as we are having to deal with the pandemic contra costa marin and napa counties already have similar policies in place. Well the start of the new school year is just weeks away but many teachers and parents in the bay area say that they still dont know exactly what school days will look like teachers and parents gathered outside the Mill Valley School district yesterday demanding a more concrete plan. The district is preparing for 3 possibilities that include distancelearning in Person Learning and a hybrid model for now the school you see here will start out fully remote but parents and teachers say they are still waiting for answers that they need to prepare. Everybody agrees we want kids and educators to return to schools when its safe we just dont all agree much safe looks like. What i understand what im hearing about what the district is offering is not satisfying everybody thats going to be safe. Im concerned that has principals return on janitors return on site secretaries return on site teachers return on site kids return on site that they spread the transmission and then they go back out the community and next thing you know were getting infected by people were shopping with a whole foods. Well for now teachers will be Teaching Online but from the classroom and its still just not clear. How long the Distance Learning phase will last the Mill Valley School district is waiting for a green light from the county. But once students are allowed back into the classrooms. They will be providing protective gear, including disposable face mask and touch with meters high grade air filters are going to be installed in those classrooms and also have Hand Sanitizer on hand in hand washing available as well. Well to the south bay, many teachers in san jose are angry about the School Districts decision to require teachers to teach from their classrooms instead from home. Now in part the districts plan for the new school year it says. By being in classroom, tee teachers will have better resources like strong wi fi and tech support but teachers say that returning to schools could put them at risk of exposure to the coronavirus. Ive looked at all the reasons for. Teaching from chances, and none of them seem to be enough to risk Staff Members and their family members. Well the School District says that schools have improved cleaning procedures and teachers returning to work will need to follow social distancing requirements. Now to the east bay this morning Contra Costa County says its not going to be allowing Elementary Schools to apply for waivers for in person classes. Now this comes as one of the states largest teacher unions is calling reopening schools, reckless kron 4 Sarah Stinson is live with more on that sarah just yesterday you were talking about how a waiver is were going to be available for School Districts and it didnt take long for contra costa to say thanks but no thanks. Yeah, it sure didnt you just the day of the Contra Costa CountyHealth Department released a statement saying that they think its too risky for in Person Education and that is why they are not supporting the states a waiver application process, its just not for them at this time lumber as we were as we cover this yesterday this applies to Public Private and Charter Schools and this is all for in person classes if they want that they must develop a thorough plan and follow strict guidelines set by the state even schools in counties on the governors watch list can apply, but they have to go through more steps to get approved however until daily case rates percent a positive test rates and hospitalizations are stable or declining for at least 2 weeks Health Officials here in contra costa counties say they will not be reviewing any waiver requests it looks like Health Officials have already written out their own guidelines on top of the states, including frequent testing for teachers and Contact Tracing having an official at the school who knows how to do that this department is not alone in thinking its too soon to allow in person classes to resume one of the states most powerful teachers unions is also saying it would be reckless to reopen schools right now meanwhile the California Association of private School Organization says it has seen considerable interest in applying. For this reopening now its up to each county Health Officer to review each schools application and then they send it to the state. Here in Contra Costa CountyHealth Department says they will let the office of education know when schools can start submitting their applications but for now theyre going to continue to monitor coronavirus cases, im live in orinda Sarah Stinson kron 4 news all right sir, thanks a lot for that live report from the east bay.
