Frias local news stations. Frantic evacuations. Came through here so fast you cant believe that i think theyre just barely got out to barely got out homes reduced to ash. A series of wildfires explode overnight intense firefight under way in the north east and south bass the threat of fire amid a Global Pandemic has caught some offguard im not prepared. Im not prepared. Breaking news tonight here on kron 4 news at 6 wildfires are burning in all but one bay area county at this hour and some of those fires are actively destroying homes right now. And people parts of fa rfield are now being asked to evacuate its not safe. Police say there is an immediate threat to life well get to that areas that are under evacuation in whe tho complex fires are burning in the north east and south bays. Theyre all grouped together in fires in the area and cal fire has given them all sorts of different names. So the seas eu complex fires. Thats the one that is burning in the mountains of san mateo and santa cruz county. The s e u complex fires arent contra costa alameda and santa clara counties in the l a new complex fires exploded overnight taking a destructive turn that is the fire that is doing a whole lot of damage right now in the north bay. The threat of fire now moving towards part of vacaville and fairfield again this is the l a new complex fire thats burning. The california Highway Patrol has shut down. All lanes of interstate 80 in the area between air base parkway and cherry road in fairfield skews me thats cherry glen road and air base parkway in fairfield thats a basically Solano County in the area between vacaville and fairfield the evacuations have been issued now in that area west and east of 80 because the fire has jumped the freeway it has jumped 80, forcing 80 to be shut down. So theres an Evacuation Order in place right now for the Rolling Hills neighborhood Fairfield Police say if you live in that area try to leave immediately. Theyre asking you to use 12 to one 13 or one 13 to 12 because again 80 is shut down in parts of fairfield pope Vacaville Police have also put out a new order for the evacuation here is a look at it right now its the area south of alamo from 80 to the pueda creek now and areas there in yellow in the last 20 minutes was also learned the Vacaville Police are warning. People near peabody road. Theyre saying that that is closed to traffic because the fire thats peabody from california drive and Chuck Hammond rise people in that area are being encouraged to evacuate right now, heres the update as of 5. 30. Now heres a full list of all the of action. Evacuation orders in that area. They include. This area right now from the california Highway Patrol this is far from fairfield to vacaville. We said peabody road. Some men hill banned in road Rolling Hills and rancho people in that area are being told to evacuate, including these 3 different sections that are listed on your screen right now, heres a list of all the Evacuation Centers for anyone who needs somewhere to go right now you could told go to the land bridge field. Thats on patterson road is a sin city and rodriguez high school. So lets check in now with our chief meteorologist Lawrence Karnow has been tracking the conditions that are fueling these fires. When 80 shut down between vacaville and fairfield will the winds to anything to to make it worse or are they going to come down overnight to kind of help firefighters though probably decrease overnight now remember last night we had a little more northerly component. And then it started to switch we start to see more of a westerly component and thats of the fires racing toward vacaville and fairfield and thats where we sit right now some of those winds start to pick up this is really that time of day with those winds get the most gusty outside some of those was a 20 miles per hour. But you can bet some of those winds gusting in around these canyons probably 2030 miles an hour in those areas so youre seeing more of a westerly component to win here over the mountains pushing the fire in that direction at the same time the delta breeze is coming up and were starting to see some of those winds pick up now in and around fairfield to 14 coming up out of the southwest so kind of swirling around right in the vacaville and also the Fairfield Area but a predominately westerwelle westerly Winds Continuing out here that is going to push those fires tore vacaville toward fairfield. And these urban areas where people live so certainly some very scary conditions for them tonight and were hoping the firefighters can hopefully get a handle on that fire in the very near future thats very live from here back to you i will be checking back with you multiple times during here on kron 4 news at 00 06pm tonight lawrence now that series of fires. Has burned more than 46,000 acres overnight destroying at least 50 structures threatening dozens more there 0 containment with the l a new lightning complex fire. As cal fire has hundreds of personnel on the scene try to protect as many homes as possible from burning mandatory Evacuation Orders have been issued for several neighborhoods and well break all those down from the moment. But first want to go to kron fours charles clifford. He is live now on the phone for us in Solano County. I apologize we have the fire chief from vacaville with us right now is that correct. Well thank you so much again for joining us. This is chief chris conception with the Vacaville Fire Department when we spoke to at the top of the last hour we were talking mostly about how a 80 has been shut down cherry glenn an airbase park wake you have any estimate of time when that might reopen. That might reopen. I know we do no point we dont have meantime far as how long the freeway going well. Our firefighters are still involved in active are fine as well and. Moving over to defend. Yeah. Now home to the south part of our city where we expect the fire to extend the best. Crews doing anything whether to chp or your department or the Police Department doing anything to get people who are stuck in their cars on 80 trying to get them off that the freeway. Im not sure about the operation on the freeway right now there our Police Tackle shops ers are actually unique going door to door as far as evacuating people. In their neighborhoods but as far as the freeways concerned im sure as far as what kind of operation can you go over the areas where homes are actively burning right now. Far as what active weve learned here in the city there are no all your city that are actively burning death. The homes are most threatened in the city of tacloban speaking only for the save act though are right now in the south part of the city and you describe the evacuation area. Their that that would 80 and south of alamo all the way to to to creep in now. In to south through the city border after a help focus right now thats where the homes are primarily threatened so with the with this evacuation that brings the total a number of homes that are threatened in the city of faculty about 500. 55 5500 was that the yeah, yeah paid 500 homes so. Thats not at all on the there are more people than that. Yeah thats just the amount of homes and that has expanded overnight. Since this morning. What have you seen can you compare this to any fire that you dealt with in your career. Um well, i mean this kind of love i have and i are like it was better california about that in a fire like this in part california ive only been here. Well 4 of 5 years as part of this kind of erratic and extreme fire weather. And the the amount that we i was watching an area 40 foot wall of flames coming out of last night. Well, the fact of what was going on and that thats not something you see during a 30 year career. It doesnt seem to like this is happening earlier in fire season. It you know it is it does it does seem like that it it seems like a fire now up there it is not it no longer just eaten, but rather year round. And what complicating this year in fact it got very hot weather. I think the high today with near 100 degrees and there cant be a dont accuse me that he was in the now youve got to wear that are pushing the fire some of those 3 factors put together really make for extreme fire behavior. And i know you can really speak just. Towards the city of vacaville where you are the fire chief but people are scared right now theyre being asked to evacuate in the moments notice in the middle of a Global Pandemic do you have anything you could say to encourage people or to help them keep their spirits up right now. Yeah, i think you know were were were doing with cancer to protect the eye on our partners are working extremely hard. So far there has not been a single home that has a has been damaged not even damaged in the attack also the great in protecting homes. Want thing they do after residents is if you get asked to evacuate. We ask that you do so can do so safely. And we should ensure that preparing for up or you dont well you see in an evacuation nows a good time as any as far as youre getting ready just in case havent been asked to evacuate now it turns it here backing up on site you to close up make sure that you have a your medicines that you require for several days as well and you thought you might have in and get ready to evacuate just case. There with 5500 homes threatened tonight that is certainly good advice to pass on. Thank you so much, yeah, ok well they safe. Now we do have Team Coverage of the fires that are burning out of control in the bay area Team Coverage will continue with kron fours dan kerman who was in fact a bill well have more now whats happening with the l a new lightning complex fires on forest, michelle kingston is live right near interstate 80 were chp has shut down the freeway because of the scu lightning complex fires and also our chief meteorologist Lawrence Karnow is tracking the fire danger and the smoky weather conditions will start now with kron fours michelle kingston, what is the latest where you are because we know that interstate 80 is closed and we just heard michelle from the fire chief he doesnt have an estimated time of when that freeway that major artery, what rio. Well let me have you take a look here on an overpass just off of the air base expressway off of i 80 okay the other side where cars are flying by is 80 west the backup that youre looking at is 80 east now 80 is closed in both directions between this exit where im at air base expressway. And the cherry glen road exit. There are a number of evacuations in the area because of the fires making the exit on now very hectic for a lot of people trying to figure out where to go. And all this going on right now is its real hectic will have the support of her body. The house back do got them right now. And everybody safe. Now i just got up here myself i just pulled over on this overpass so as im looking out. Im starting to see in the distance quite a bit of smoke and i cant even see fire along some of the hillsides in the back their in a bit here to give you a closer look but i just want to you know talk about what im what im seeing here just off of this exit. A lot of people pulling are trying to figure out the best way to get to a safe place its pretty chaotic. A lot of people seem to be in a panic and were hearing a lot of sirens as of course are emergencies all around us will send it back to you guys and michelle when you were driving up there. Can you feel the heat from the flames around you i mean obviously you can see that its still really smoky and great behind you, but what what is the. What is the weather conditions in the fire conditions feel like. And what the so i was coming eastbound going through and binney shot it really wasnt bad i could even see some blue skies. And then by the time i got here to where i am now you know i can see what you guys are seeing here just big brown smoke. As you can see i do not have my at 95 on though its not too bad where im at right now you can tell looking that way maybe just another 2, 3 miles down 80 east. I can see the fire now on the hillside, so its definitely a lot worse just a couple of miles from where im at. Thank you thats kron fours michelle kingston reporting for us right now after the fire has jumped 80 west and the shutdown 80 between vacaville and fairfield even now there are sirens behind her a firefight is active in that area they can shower. And there are still several other fires that we need to cover right now is Evacuation Orders are been happening in Solano County. This includes rockville road. Sassoon valley road Gordon Valley road would in valley road clayton road maccas corner shton lane northwest Browns Valley road. And thats west of blue ridge road to 5 05 and then north of cherry glen road to highway one 28 those are all the Evacuation Orders and they have been changing throughout the hour kron fours dan kerman is also part of our Team Coverage tonight he is reporting for us now in vacaville. Were conditions have just gotten worse throughout the day. Thats right you can really tell justinthat the wind is really starting to pick up now in fact as you see behind me you see a lot of smoke there kbout 20 minutes ago there was a huge wall of flame as a tree or Something Else just went up again this area has been smoky and burning all day long as weve been here as weve mentioned those anywhere from 4,000 to 4500 homes that have been evacuated and since that fire jumped a t they have added another 1000 homes here in vacaville. The fire moved south. And threatened the city very very quickly faster than we anticipated a wall of flames thats how vacaville fire chief described the blaze that move south from napa county towards vacaville early wednesday morning hit pretty early early in the last night about one between one 2 oclock in the morning. On the west side in the north orchard and north alamo neighborhoods, the blaze destroyed numerous homes west of the city on Pleasant Valley road and forced the evacuation of 4,000 to 4500 homes inside the city in the north orchard in north alamo neighborhoods and later in the Browns Valley neighborhood to the north and the cherry glen neighborhood to the south winds. My biggest fear that the country has seen in especially with and then we were our power was out so we dont have water we could turn the hose on wanted to luckily this couples house survived. But the blaze raged on with temperatures just over a 100 degrees and humidity low. The fire began to surround the city with fires on the north west and south sides by midafternoon, no homes had been lost within the city limits. As fire crews scattered engines across the city to protect those houses. Were monitoring that very carefully to make sure that the fuels were trying to make sure that the the fuels are cleared away from the houses. So that it doesnt affect or damaging houses. And with the fire now jumping the freeway that additional area the evacuation area that has been added which includes about a 1000 homes, according to Vacaville Police chief is the area south of alamo from i 80 to the pew to create canal. Thats the latest reporting live in vacaville Dan Kerman Kron 4 news thank you so much dan well have more breaking were tracking many wildfires burning across the bay area right now as we take a live look outside from our camera here in San Francisco air quality is unhealthy for sensitive groups such as children and older adults and people who have breathing or heart issues smoke is filling the sky ash is also falling down. Our chief meteorologist Lawrence Karnow joins us now with a look at the weather conditions and how that will impact the firefight and i think were going to see the smoke around here probably right through the weekend until they put these fires out were getting a little more. Of a westerly component to the wind so maybe some of the coastal sections start clearing out a little bit but look at this even towards San Bruno Mountain thats not fog out of smoke that has shown near sfo right now, but all around the bay area seeing very poor air quality in fact. Unhealthy as you make your way along the peninsula right now in the parts of san jose free mom out to hayward sam ramon livermore concord all very unhealthy air poor air quality extending all the way through half moon bay, san mateo in the San Francisco, if youre a person that is susceptible to especially a smoke make sure you close your windows stay inside. You probably want to stay inside there for quite some time is that poor quality going to stick around tomorrow, very unhealthy are expected especially in the east bay in the south bay. Weve got High Pressure overhead and even though its weakening a bit theyve got that inversion and then a version where what that does is that caps the atmosphere so all that smoke cant make south so you get some of the areas in and around the mountains, so you get the valley here in the Santa Clara Valley into the tri valley that tends to trap those pollutants but the thi that big ridge they something to watch out for 2 weve got a hurricane thats spinning off the coastline of baja right now could bring some Hurricane Force winds there some major flooding to maybe as much as 6 maybe 10 inches of rain. But watch what happens with the storm system as we take you through time just kind of hugging the coastline and pushes into some cooler waters begins to weaken and fall apart, but you know what this kind of similar to what we just this past wee
