Begin to pick up the pieces your life changes and that you have to face rebuilding. Hello everyone i thank you for joining us at 6 oclock im Catherine Heenan firefighters are making progress on a string of huge wildfires across the bay area. The scu fire complex now the second biggest. In california history burning more than 363,000 acres only 15 contained, followed closely by the l a new complex fires. They burned more than 352,000 acres 27 contained and there is the czu complex a fire in san mateo and santa cruz counties burning nearly 79,000 acres and all together the fires have burned nearly 800,000 acres in just one week. Lets take our first look at the weather conditions and san mateo and Santa Cruz County and then things again continue to get better mabrisa yeah they really are catherine and we are noticing right now temperatures in monterey. 69 degrees so cooler forecast there along the coast, thanks to the return of that marine layer relative humidity up to 68 and wind speeds fortunately. In the single digits. We are noticing fairly calm winds 7 mile per hour sustained winds. But tomorrow we could see gusts near that santa cruz area upwards of about 30 Miles Per Hour less so a little bit breezier than today with winds around 20 Miles Per Hour or less, but we are noticing those still spare the air alert continues to be extended from now through friday because of the smoky and hazy conditions out there right now in the bay area so the poorest air quality for those of you in San Mateo County heading southward into the south bay into san jose and also pretty widespread for those of you in the east bay, so air quality outlook, pretty unhealthy yet again for your wednesday afternoon with the porous no surprise in the east bay just because of that change in wind direction out of the westsouthwest pushing all of that smoke and ash into the east bay but tracking cooler and cloudier weather returning tonight with near average temperatures on wednesday great shot for firefighters to really battle the flames overnight into tomorrow, thanks to these favorable conditions until things really start to warm up and dry out later this week into this weekend more coming up in my full forecast catherine back to you thank you members software with dozens of wildfires across the bay area. The fastmoving flames they have forced thousands of people to evacuate their homes. A lot of them have not been ordered to evacuate, but theyre getting warnings from cal fire. Theyve got to be ready to leave at a moments notice kron fours grant lotus joins us from the newsroom to break down where the orders and the warnings are in effect and how people in the community can get that information grant. Well a bit of good news tonight as we mentioned the weather is cooperating with firefighters efforts and a couple. Evacuation warnings have just ended will get you to those first want to show you the cal fire map though in the north bay there is this enormous lnu complex theyre calling it but in encompasses 2 totally different fires you have this one over here in Sonoma County. And then this other one that encompasses bay area counties, including napa solano lake yolo and well zoom you in first well go to the Evacuation Orders and warnings for Sonoma County and each county is sort of putting out its own map here in the bay area, but right now we want to take you to the cal fire press conference. 06 00pm press conference here on the czu complex my name is jonathan cox on the deputy chief for cal fire, san Mateo Santa Cruz unit malign officer here on this incident. Just as always if you youre telephones. Take any conversations outside the press briefing area and keep your masks on at all times it would be greatly appreciated. I just want to settle a bit of context again, and we did this a few days ago. This evening. We can report that across since august 15th, one 0. 2 5 million acres of land burned in the last just over 10 days. I give you a sense point of reference thats larger than the state of delaware that weve seen consume in the state of california over that period of time. Additionally across the state there are still over a 136,000 people evacuated from them from their homes and communities. And theres over 100 signs specifically to fight fires in the state. At this moment. With that dropped over 2. 7 million gallons of on on these fires over the last a 10 plus days. And theres Additional Resources coming in from throughout the western. A United States to help us fight these fires. A little bit about the specifics of the czu complex this evening. We can confirm that the fires up to 79,640 acres. As we spoke about the other day this number is going to get more and more specific as time goes on as we gain better intelligence. We have good news in the sense that were up to 19 1, 9 , containment on the fire. As you as you know every cent every percent of is hours and hours of sweat and blood up on those lines actually getting in in the fire perimeter. As far number of structures threatened theyre still over 24,000 structures that are threatened. Throughout the complex and we unfortunate can confirm this evening that we are up to 443 structures that have been destroyed on this incident. The breakdown of that specifically 11 of those structures are in San Mateo County and 432 in Santa Cruz County. With that we are now up to 1600 and personnel assigned to the incident. And this this afternoon about 2 oclock working with the Santa Clara CountySheriffs Office in Santa Clara CountyFire Department of the first evacuation warnings in Santa Clara County were lifted on this incident which is a sign of progress in the right direction with that were very lucky this evening to have notable guests a u. S. Congresswoman an issue. Thank you very much excuse me thank you very much chief. Well its been quite a day for me. I was fortunate enough to win. Be driven ah. From the Sheriffs Office in Santa Cruz County with sheriff jim hart. Our outstanding sheriff. I saw firsthand the Emergency Operations center. That is housed in not in his building. And it was room after room after room of teams. Their Law Enforcement. Fire you name it they are there. We went i went to the center. At the county fairgrounds i think every person in this entire region. I wish they could say with the team has done. In less than a week. Theyve really established set up a community and theres been an outpouring from the community in terms of. Clothing food from restaurants. Really a medical that has been a setup. All across. This effort. Is the team work that i see taking place. Its one thing to for me to be working phones. Calling the dod calling me state director of all we ask talking to the national guard. All about assets assets assets but to be on the ground and to see firsthand what Law Enforcement together with cal fire and all of the agencies in the county coming together and working same is seamlessly. I would say this is this is really a picture of government that is working very very well for people. Its moving. It is a heart rending in some situations. I dont know what it feels like to think that i might lose my home. And i i tried to imagine it. But everyone that is part of this team thats standing in back of me. Those that are standing in front of me they know what it is they know what it is these firstrate professionals. I think that the progress that has been made is really quite remarkable. For a number of days we were at 0 . Containment then we inched up to 3 or 4 when i saw 8 my heart leapt and you just heard the report. And down. We had something to eat just not all that far away and there were not only blues there they were orange. Orange jumpsuits. And those of the individuals from the California Department of corrections they too have been trained in fire fighting. Not that many people. Know that and i did it. And although theyre not here i want to thank for doing their fair share as well. So i salute all of our First Responders and the real heroes in our country truly the heroes in this community and on god willing god willing that the weather. Cooperates they can do their work and the percentage of the containment i think well continue to increase and we will keep welcoming the news of more people being able to go back to their home so i have to tell you that i ill be going home this evening with a much higher level of confidence and i had when i was driving over the hill to come to visit and i want to thank you all this this is not easy work. And i call it gods work because everyone is in service to the people in this community and this community is a very tight knit community. They all know each other god willing we will continue this but for everything that you on. Thank you made me aware of today showed me firsthand answering all the questions. I salute all of you and i thank you and thank you sheriff part 4 making me tear gassed the poor man kept saying come on come on you have to stop talking we have to keep going. So thank you for your patience and 4. For hospitality that everyone has said. Extended to me, im proud of the people of my district very proud. The courage of the residents, the courage of the firefighters. The courage and the dedication of the people that are taking care of each other. In such a professional and caring way. It is sad. It it brings great credit to this congressional district, i think its an eloquent statement about it so god bless all of you thank you. Thank you. Congresswoman. Speaking from cal fire incident management team, 3 Operations Section chief mark from. Good evening. So another very positive and other progressive day that we got a lot done a lot of work out the line. A lot of success today again the weather is cooperating with us weve been steadily getting a tumor of reinforcements lot of personnel says we get him in checking in. Well bring out the line well bring that to work at our plan and were having a lot of success with that. Lets just take around the horn with the fire really quickly. Again up in that division that gofund u l we have a really good lads dalglish fires back down to that line has been more of a patrol status and whats very a critical part about that hes a wine was that was when youre concerned with that would that might drive into potentially Santa Clara County. As you heard earlier that the evacuation warning has been lifted and thats in it because we have a very good confidence that we have to control that part of the wind so a lot of success there has been a lot of days in the making moving around address one of the things that communities such as height of the war. Fires could be another in which i know what its doing exactly what is part of our strategy so well the scene that the fire is burning it is but is simply creeping down to our control lines where we can take best advantage and use our limited resources to to extinguish that and make that saved him because hes a we can Start Talking eventually about every population plan moving down the coast to some of the fires many so many gated in the lighter fuel. Due to the humidity and the rain influence. So thats really a good thing. Especially moving down to the death of bor. Looking really good there. Fire does is kind of all over the hill. So we should wait for the weather conditions to to change lightly sue it we can take advantage of the bringing down to our control and we have established around that community in the south youre holding very well, this is always been a concern for us so that the fire does not progress is a live action to threaten the community of santa cruz in the usi campus. Again or in full as we established our secondary control lines still valid. Still working the fire has bumped into some of that and extinguished and exactly wanted to do. And so were looking really good high level of confidence in that you are in our suppression act is there. Around the community of film. Working diligently of a burdensome line a roundabout after 3 quarters of that community. We have another line that were establishing an going to do a burnout operation probably thursday looking at the conditions are going to be right for that. And once thats completed. And thats really going to put a really good cover a really good line around the Community Film and now it is a high level of confidence that that communities can be very from any sort of oncoming a fire front. Moving up toward been looming in the state park we again were challenging areas. The department of fuels and so forth thats an area that were working diligently and were putting Water Resources in its just really tough difficult terrain to work in and so again reviews are filtered strategies to mitigate that issue in in to have success in that and in the coming days, i think were going to have a lot of success. Well moving up into the room and board comeys are still looking really good to have a lot of resources working in communities of in the hillside. Again steve trained to work in. Were having a body success and were getting used to draw lines established. Moving into biden. Again thats looking fantastic goes up there again this afternoon. Weve seen a lot of us know where their crews are in there working very diligently. Working on the structures like i said its been staking process lot of homes in with the resources we have to the almost home by home. Putting line around it securing it mopping it up making sure that its safe in that community and we have a lot of success on that venue. We have a lot of the Utility Companies starting to move in and starting to assert a developing their plans and starting to do work. Start reestablishing the infrastructure thats going to be needed and until the of infrastructure is established setup repaired then we can start looking at a re population has any of these communities so we are aggressively as soon as we can get it safe enough for this was to move in. It will bring them in and theyre starting their their hard work so thats really good. As far as the continuing challenge we always that weve had with the folks that have been evacuated and have been causing us some concern and hindering summer operations. I want to sure heart and his staff has done an outstanding policing and theyve gotten in there. And i got to say is the first time in over a week that we got there it was almost a ghost town. Thats what we needed because now my crews are in there unhindered doing the work they need to do to not distracted that they do for rescues were any of those things are concerned about their safety. Theres been there. Those down. But in the hard work because the community safe. Where program or aircraft are flying again today were timing out our companys plan to the maximum we can water dropping as of just about an hour ago. Were about a 195,000 gallons that have been dropped today. We still have a few hours left to a flight time and so were going to at least meet or exceed the amount that we dropped yesterday that was 200,000 ounces a lot of water dropping thats in support of our crews on the ground working together. Were getting that much closer to the beginning this is the incident and getting folks closer to getting back home and this fire being put away into that. All right youve been watching live or cal fire update theyve been doing this every night giving us. Updates on the scope of the fires, the progress they have made. I saw anna eshoo was there talking about the outpouring of support from the community for the people affected, but bottom line theyre continuing to make some progress and the of encouragement is there again tonight. Coming off that returning to ruins and matters. A heartbreaking reality for a lot of people who are returning to their homes and some of them are finding everything and after the break wildfire coverage continues here on kron 4 news at 6 well have a report from granville as the lnu complex fires have ravaged more than 352 we know that the wildfires of course have forced thousands of people to evacuate their homes, some of them and very little notice a lot of them have not been ordered to evacuate, but they continue to get warnings from cal fire. Theyve got to be ready to leave at a moments notice conference grant lotus is in the newsroom has been breaking down where these orders and warnings are happening and how people can get the information. Grant well kron 4 dot com. We posted all the info there several link so that is a great resource is all different jurisdictions are. Putting that info on the internet want to show you a cal fire map give you a little perspective of the situation in the north bay where that massive lnu complex is burning 2 separate fires really theyve just been grouped together for simplicity cal fires resources are stretched thin, so this one here on the left is Sonoma County and this larger swath here on the right includes napa solano parts of lake and yolo counties well zoom in first here to Sonoma County and show you where the mandatory Evacuation Order is here this is the area in red a pretty big area. The yellow indicating an evacuation warning folks should have to go bags packed if youre in a warning zone and be ready to roll if the call comes to me in a little closer show you where exactly this is this is highway one oh one here that past santa rose up and the winds are heres healdsburg right there crews been working so hard to keep that community safe, but you can see how close the mandatory Evacuation Order is to healdsburg Russian River down here. And now were going to head left to right if you will west to east throughout the north bay going over here this is napa counties map n
