Know because we would love it if it just cleared right out today it will be a slow go as far as clearing goes these next few days she can see air quality is very poor out there still much like it has been the past few days. Not as bad though as it was friday and saturday also not the prettiest of shots out of sfo this morning very foggy. Very hazy. Its a mix of both that is pushed in right along the shoreline that is making conditions so pour yet again across the region. Now the most of smoke from the Sierra Nevada fires that were still continuing to see burning is pumped up right there on the western sierra were here in the bay area where you can see that there is some marine layer that is pushed in unfortunately with that marine layer, there is smoke embedded in that as well so her getting it from all sides when you have so many fires burning across the region it takes more than just a shift in wind direction to be seeing conditions clearing out. Now there is an onshore wind this morning that has pushed that fog and so watch out for some dense foggy spots mostly at Higher Elevations for this monday morning temperatures as of right now are in the 50s and 60s with alameda san mateo and San Francisco, right below the 60 degree mark hayward in oakland at 61 degrees each as for conditions later today at least weve got comfortable temperatures although not much of a chance to enjoy them as i know most of us are going to be hunkered down inside as much as possible. Robin. Thank you john lets check in on the morning commute at one point we had some heavy traffic leading up to the richmond sandra fell bridge and now its already thinning out so its looking good for you in to the north bay, this is westbound no delays at all leading up to the pay gates that was quick i think the commute lasted maybe 30 minutes thats about it. So were looking at 9 minutes off to one o one the only start to slow traffic. We have is out of the east bay highway for recovering from a crash. So up over the hill as you leave a point working your way to conquer theres a little bit of stop and go traffic it will clear up before to 42 so your drive time not bad at all 21 minutes from antioch to concord target james thanks a lot. Lets get back to the air quality then thats the big story around the bay today another day of bad air yeah, especially out in the east bay kron fours will tran live for us in concord this morning with a firsthand look good morning. Well. The area that when you said bad air i thought of name for like a rock group because bad air is number one on the charts as far as unhealthy conditions not that the sun is up i want to show you just how horrible it is we started off the 07 00am newscast with this scenic shot look at this that is not mostly fall people i think might be a little bit of fog mixed in but mostly that is smoke that is sitting. On top of all of us and all those commuters on highway 4 it looks like. It disappears those tail lights disappear as they go further away from us and into all that smoke. Its a little bit windy this morning and hopefully that will get the air circulating and the smoke out of here now i want to show you a map of what youre waking up to as far as the bay area. Pretty much the same conditions that we have seen over the past couple of days, you can see is unhealthy to very unhealthy. At this time, our buddy john tray but was talking about it might be getting a little bit better so we are trending in the right direction unfortunately, still not quick now for all of us in the bay area because its still very difficult to breathe, especially if you are working out right now to do that i reached out to my gym over the weekend to see if i can personally get in there somehow some way and unfortunately gyms are shut down of course right now it is the same as it was over the past couple of days meaning smoke is on top of us and because this is 2020. James and area. Unlike the past couple of days even on the day that we saw the orange sky. This morning you are waking up smelling the smoke ilya 7 as you can give me a thumbs up as well. She is also smelling the smoke so this does not just me be careful out there and limit your exposure. Job door activities, yulia sevens and i are jumping in and out of our cars just to make sure that were not inhaling all this hopefully things will be a little bit better today. Work out i was just an n 95 just to walk around because i could feel it in my throat as the longer im out here. Back to you. Ok i think thats the thing is the shorter amount of time outside the better, thanks allow. Well wait between or its inside the car with research on yeah now to the latest for the wildfires. Nearly 17,000 firefighters across california are working right now to contain. 29 major wildfires burning up and down the state. So far more than 3 million acres has burned during our fire season with at least 35 people dying from the flames from california to Washington State dozens of wildfires have destroyed neighborhoods leaving nothing but charred rubble in their wake and thats forcing 10s of thousands of people forced to evacuate. Here in the bay area, the lnu complex fires in the north bay are now 96 contained. So theyre making certainly some progress on that front the scu complex fires in the east and south bays now 98 contained. The czu complex fires in san mateo and santa cruz counties now 89 contained and then lastly the woodward fire up in the north bay at the Point Reyes National seashore is now 95 contained this morning. The creek fire tripled in size in less than a week, its burned 200,000 acres so far and its just 10 contained, lets look at the map that shows you where the fire is now the dark green is the initial fire and then the light green is where it spread for the first 2 days, the yellow and the light orange portions thats what happened on days 3, 4, and then the orange represents last thursday and friday more than 14,000. Structures are threatened by this fire and low visibility means little opportunity for water or fire retardant drops. Where that the smoke has been. Lane in staying in the area and with aircraft it has not been able to go up. More than 400 homes and other buildings have been destroyed. 800 firefighters are soon going to be coming in from around the country to assist with the firefight. And happening now. Its a good day a new day for many businesses in San Francisco, they get to reopen Indoor Services for the First Time Since coronavirus hit now theyve been desperate to be able to get to this point so lets go out live now weve got kron 4 Sarah Stinson standing by in San Francisco. With the news that a lot of those Business Owners and their customers wanted to hear sarah. Live here on union street at crunch fitness and one of the members here just told me i finally have a reason to be up and awake at 6 in the morning. Motivating myself to work on myself and get back into good health and shape take a look right now and nobody in line but they had a line out the door before they even open and they have been doing screenings and making sure that everyone stay safe, but lets take a look at the moment they opened up for the first time in half a year. Welcome if we get it you guys line up going over case of yeah its a great everyone was so excited for the quote safety briefing in and they were going over you know. What you need to do which means you have to keep 6 feet of distance you have to wear your mask, they do. Check peoples temperatures before they come in and then you can go in and work out here they have to employees working in then 22 members can be inside at a time and people have been saying they feel amazing leaving the gym for the first time in months theyre so excited. You have to bring your own water bottle you can fill it up at the water fountain. Theres a lot of different rules to make sure that people are safe and its been a Long Time Coming gym owners have been the most vocal of all the Small Businesses my opinion, the sides a salon and you know theyve theyve been pretty a vocal as well, but gym owners have been fighting for this day for months, its been devastating for them financially. And so gyms are now you know following all the protocols even putting in place more than required doing reservations only sometimes because of the limited capacity only being able to allow 10 in at a time. But its not just gyms can reopen lets take a look at the full list of businesses that can reopen starting today in San Francisco for the first time in 6 or so months so were talking about hair and nail salons barbershops tattoo parlors Family Entertainment centers, that means like many gulf batting cages gokarts all of these places can reopen with restrictions even outdoor tour buses can resume and the city of course knows that theres a risk of more tourists coming which could lead to more of a Community Spread but theyre also stressing that we all fall these restrictions that we all make sure we do our part then hopefully we can you know continue to reopen in make it even more percent capacity. But i havent just talked to one of the members here at crunch fitness and he said you know its up to us to follow these rules and to make sure that we do our part otherwise we could have to reversing go back to the old ways of closing these businesses which would be devastating. This is a big day for San Francisco weve been one of the last counties to be able to do such things so well be hearing from some of the gym memberships to the gym members next hour so make sure to join us its just a lot of excitement a lot of people happy to be heading back into the gym for now live in San Francisco Sarah Stinson kron 4 news, especially this can work out outside thanks a lot sarah. 7. 10 and still ahead on the kron 00 04am morning news. Happening today, President Trump visits california to be briefed on our wildfires. Yeah hell be in sacramento later on this morning and with more on that weve got Karma Dickerson standing by with our sister station ktxl live in sacramento, karma good morning. Good morning air force one scheduled to touch down in just about 3 and a half hours and were already starting to see the signs of a president ial visit just over my shoulder there you can see Law Enforcement those are Plainclothes Secret Service and also Sacramento County sheriff and also a few supporters just a handful bit of a sprinkle of already started to turn out hoping for a glimpse of the president. The president first scheduled to meet with First Responders to discuss the states Wildfire Response governor gavin, newsome is going to be right alongside him that you have been cordial even complimentary when it comes to coronavirus response. However, when it comes to wildfires the cause and whose actions or inactions are responsible, theres sometimes a warm words between use them in trump. Last night President Trump briefed briefly discuss californias wildfires. Relief are spent month. We want Forest Management my administration. Is closely coordinating with the state and local leaders with the governor. This is a climate dam emergency and theyre in denial about Climate Change theyre not truly i think position to be the kind of leaders that we need. Newsome agrees force management as important and last month the federal government and california came together for wildfire prevention he would manage about 1 million acres of land a year in california and after discussing the wildfires, the president is going to participate here at mcclellan in a ceremony for the National Guard honoring them and then from here he heads to phoenix so at this point its just going to be about a 2 hour visit still 3 hours away but a lot of things packed into that short amount of time reporting from uc lowen in sacramento, Karma Dickerson kron 4 right karma thank you very much for that. Now lets check the forecast things really depend on which way the wind blows i guess yeah literally just yes, its all about the wind and with fires pretty much an 3 Different Directions around the bay area to the north to the south and especially to the east now takes a lot more than a shift in wind direction to fully clear things out but we are looking at improvements which is a nice thing to talk about obviously very hazy from timber on this morning, gray skies out there right along the bay, a sign of the poor air quality that hangs on across the region. Not as bad as it was friday and saturday but still very pour across the bay. We are looking at this low pressure area and advancing northwest winds cutting off any smoke making its way our direction from oregon and Northern California thats being sent out of the region. So theres a plus as far as the fires that are burning up in the Sierra Nevada lot of that smoke has been bunched up right on the western slope of the sierra settling into the Central Valley and some of it still making its way our direction existing hayes still sitting with us because we have had Strong Enough winds nor lift to really sweep it out of the bay just yet weve seen modest improvements here and there will continue to see slow improvements over the next couple of days before a game changer thursday night into friday that is really going to help us out as far as today is concerned 50s and 60s for San Francisco temperatures right at the coast mostly in the 60s today well 70s to 80s elsewhere in the bay area really comfortable temperatures at least we dont have to worry about heat today. Just dont step outside too long to enjoy those numbers because obviously the smoke is going to be the thing that keeps us inside more than anything else. Well. Oakland at 71 conquered walnut creek and danville 83. Well, a similar range of 70s to 80s up in the north bay where yes, it will be comfortable, but not so easy on the as far as we go outside. Tomorrow will still be a hazy one wednesday, some modest improvements to continue thursday and friday these are the days, im really focusing on though, as we will see a weak system pushing through now this isnt going to be a widespread rainmaker, although we could see the possibility of drizzle at the coast in the north bay. What this is going to do though is help to stir things up get some of that lingering haze out of the region and hey just in time for the weekend i dont anticipate things to be perfect by the weekend. But i do anticipate some nice improvements. Robin. All right. Thank you john the morning commute is really easing up it looks pretty good right now in the 6 oclock hour we had much heavier traffic out there. But now that were in the 7 oclock hour things have improved so its a great time to join the folks here on the san mateo bridge if youre looking to roll out of the east bay and over to the peninsula, heres a live. Look as i said its much better compared to the last hour your drive time clocking in at 14 minutes here from hayward over to send the tail so thats a good try check out the commute into San Francisco earlier we had a lot of heavy traffic and its filled all the way back to west grand now we have just a minor weight in some of the lanes right down the middle and we remain hot spot free into San Francisco, this is the only hot spot that im tracking and its left over from last night damage to some power poles along 84, which is niles canyon, its still closed between mission which
