Cool afternoon considering where we have been daytime highs for most of the bay only in the 70s. Robin. Thank you john lets check in on the traffic now which is off to a great start for friday morning. Were checking in on the bay bridge toll plaza the commute into San Francisco is looking good. Heres a live look at we dont have any delays or problems right now leading up to the paid so all is well into San Francisco. Heres 92 our busiest bridge busy does not mean that its a little crowded west of the tolls but its a great trip up and over the high rise into foster city and san mateo darya james thanks a lot rob and 5 oh one this morning Elementary Students in San Francisco are a step closer to heading back to the classroom. Yeah, this after department of Public Health is inspecting Elementary Schools to ensure that they meet both state and county standards from 4 Sarah Stinson live in the city now. With more on the story sure. Yes schools like the one behind me that could be open this in the next 2 weeks the Health Department says theyre just getting all the final touches done and then within 2 weeks, the first round of schools will head back to the classroom. Its a big deal for San Francisco and for all of the bay area as you make the steps to reopening during this Pandemic Take a look at these pictures you can see what exactly they are doing to make sure the kids are safe you can see there and the teams are measuring the distance between each desk. Each just has its own supply so the kids dont have to share. Theres really just a lot that goes into it making sure there is everything is labeled making sure signage for students reminding them to keep your mask on reminding them to wash their hands reminding them where to walk i mean its a lot of work classrooms have to meet standards set by the state and by our local Health Department and Health Officer schools that will reopen first for in person classes cretin created an indepth safety plan in submitted if the waiver applications to the Health Department who then reviewed and approved it then San Francisco entered the red tier 2 in states colorcoded terror system meaning we remain in this tier for 2 weeks in all schools k through 12 can reopen for in person classes with regulations of course, but the then the Health Department still the schools to submit a letter of intent a letter saying they want to reopen and you really do have to go over all of these safety regulations is important that they do this right because they dont want to have to revert back to Distance Learning. Thats always been sort of the hang up on this so well continue to cover this see how people feel heading back to school here in San Francisco for now, im live in San Francisco Sarah Stinson back to you. All right, thank you very much sara 5 03 and in the north bay Health Officials are dealing with covid outbreaks at several daycares and private preschools in Sonoma County. Health officials havent given us the names of these schools for privacy reasons, but at one day care there are 30 students staff and parents who had covid that facility is now closed and officials are working on Contact Tracing across the county a total of 62 cases of coronavirus have been reported at day cares and private schools. So of the 62 cases, 25 have occurred in students 10 have occurred in staff and 27 in parents or siblings. You can see here theres been a breakdown in terms of geography. Again these are private schools and daycares Public Schools in Sonoma County are still closed. And the county is still under the states most restrictive guidelines. The county has too many covid cases to shift into the next phase which would allow the reopening of schools, Public Schools with limited capacity. One of the Biggest School districts in Sonoma County is going to stick to Distance Learning for the rest of the year theyve already made that decision so whatever happens with the covid cases even if theyre allowed to open theyve decided wait until 2021 to give a real learning in person at a shot Santa Rosa City School Leaders made this unanimous vote. Wednesday night for several reasons pointing to the fact the Sonoma County is still. A bad it with a lot of covid in the bad category and the county saw slight uptick in the number of cases and the number of deaths, the district is also concerned about the cost associated with putting kids back into the classrooms in a pandemic. Although california is making strides in containing covid19 Health Experts caution that were still not in the clear especially with flu season right around the corner and then we have the holidays right after that. Their example, how we can mess this up Christmas Parties halloween. Big thanksgiving dinners. You know, i mean obviously a huge social a social things but in general its not going to be a great idea to get out and mix with people that are not part of your household. And doctor rutherford says that getting the flu shot will help withstand any coronavirus surge until. A vaccine is ready. And were tracking our local coronavirus numbers so again, heres an update on where the state stands right now with more than 775,000 confirmed cases since the pandemic began more than 14,000 people have died from it across the golden state in the bay area more than 94,000 confirmed cases now with more than 1300 recorded deaths from covid19. Because some things you just cant take back. Do your part to lower the risk. 5. 29 right now and we are taking a look at weather and traffic and you guys are hearing the wind. I got to put up the boot off a long time ago now i have a sneaker on had a foot of rain in there and and but its staying does. Yeah. And but we have taken his own. Yeah. Here everything during and theyre like my personal forecast from john. Hey is it going to be smoggy in auburn at 3 oclock because i got our own right around pretty stinging. But yeah it will be a little bit less than ideal out that direction and the air quality even not going to be as great tomorrow as what were seeing today. Right here in the bay area to were rounding a corner and getting a little worse this weekend as for your live from berkeley you are seeing some low clouds sitting about berkeley itself. Visibility is a lot better than yesterday though where we sitting with their quality well for inland, south bay areas we are seeing a return to moderate conditions now before you make plans to stay inside for most of us moderate conditions is going to be just fine. Were still good across the coast in bayside areas. And even in these moderate spots, youll just notice a little noticeable hayes sitting over head. Its really pour conditions as you head out towards the sierra nevada. Air quality tomorrow will be a little bit worse and sunday expected to be the worst of the weekend temperatures right now are in the 60s with hayward at 65 alameda dublin and livermore each at 63. Oakland a nice 66 degrees right now talking what else to expect this weekend still to come robin. Thank you john we have some activity at the bay bridge toll plaza, its an injury accident approaching the pay gates and a driver may be trapped inside of the vehicle, this is westbound 80 before you reach the 80 overcrossing one lane is blocked i just saw a fire truck rolled through so theyre on the way its causing a little bit of a backup on the approach to the overcrossing but after the overcrossing closer to the pay gates, its going to be wide open 9 minutes after fremont street. So its just a brief little hiccup and your commute here on the san mateo bridge. We have some heavier traffic rolling west, its a little crowded, but its not bad 30 minutes to the peninsula. This scanning through the east bay were looking pretty good except for northbound 6. 80 passing Mission North little sluggish there but 5. 80 the nimitz doing fine and the south bay trouble free to 3717 87 all nice and smooth back to you. All right, thanks a lot robin. In the east bay, the city of martinez has decided to pave over. The black lives matter mural painted on a street in front of the citys courthouse, yeah that mural has attracted a lot of local and National Attention since it was first installed back in july with kron fours reyna harvey live there now. With the latest on the story right now. Dorian james good morning city officials said theyre going to pan over and next month thats a part of a larger citywide projects like you mentioned a lot of conversation has been started around this black lives matter mural to my right talk to people out here martinez is the first one up you had some people that were excited it was there and some people not so much lets give you some history and some background on the near old so you might remember it was approved in july. Why a local black lives flyers were found on a sidewalk nearby the city approved it about a 100 volunteers came out. After that yet several incidents take place surrounding the mural including the one that garnered National Attention you might and a woman who defaced and painted on it the same day was created now the city says the local black lives matter group has asked for permission to be painted it, but they were denied a few times now youre looking at that incident that happened when it was the face so whats next now city Officials Say the next step says the paving project is going to help them transition from paint the pavement to policy and procedure as the city is working on now to create a formal process if people want to erect murals or do some sort of a public display of art theyre going to come up with a process that the city can look over the approve it or deny it and then go from there so those are the next steps again on an exact date for when this is going to be painted over here in october still has not been mentioned, but were going to be following this project in the coming weeks, but for now reporting on here martinez reyna harvey kron 4 news okay. Thank you brianna. 5. 33 right now in the East Livermore woman is suing her fertility doctor. Because he use his to impregnate her not once. But twice and only after 40 years. Did she find out Catherine Richards is her name and she just figured out the father of her 2 children is the doctor who was she went to in alamo all those years ago she turned to doctor michael chi can. When she and her husband couldnt get pregnant in the 1970s. They found out that doctor was the biological father her kids did did dna and genealogy tests. And the product of my mothers abuser. I dont know if well ever come to terms with that my mom never consented to her doctor secretly using his own to violate her how could. Someone do this. In good conscience. How can they. Theyre abused the trust. That we placed in him. The lawyers calling it basically medical it and that this doctor has a practice in california. Since 1998 but records show its not just this woman who he impregnated with his own is from and. Doctor show that records show the doctor is license now to practice in virginia. We dont have any comment from doctor chi can on this lawsuit. In the south bay people in Santa Clara County can get free flu shots this week in just the regular flu right yeah, its all part of a new effort to keep people safe during the flu. From the flu during this pandemic so kron fours will tran on that story for us this morning in santa clara with more on what you need to know youre at the county fairgrounds their will. Thats right genes off a tele road and they always stress flu shots every year, but this year might be the most important year. In our history of our lives to get flu shots because all roads lead back to covid19 they dont want you to go to the hospital if you come down with the flu that so bad and that could take up space for covid19 patients. You can see the sign right behind me this begins tomorrow and theyre trying to make it as easy as it possibly can for everybody they dont care about immigration status. You can drive up quickly step out of your car they will give you a quick shot hot back in your car dont worry about a you wont catch covid19 and if you havent caught have covid19 or any symptoms, theyre encouraging you not to come here to go to your doctor get yourself checked out and if everythings ok get a shot from your doctor, but if youre okay come down here walk here ride your bicycle they dont care as long to get your flu shot because that will keep you safe, especially with influenza and you can change as the months go along and again it all goes back to covid19 here are a couple of officials in Santa Clara County talking about why it is so important for you. If youre driving your car you can drive your gate dm park and walk right up to the expo and get a flu shot you dont need an appointment this is not. A vaccine against covid. The flu is not related to covid. You will not get covid by getting the flu vaccine. And the hours you can see clearly right behind me begins at 9 oclock in the morning all the way until 4 oclock in the afternoon. James all right you can get one lie about their age or to get the kron flu shot. They did here. Yeah, i thought about it i thought about getting the flu shot at work but weve been so busy with smoke and all this flu shots every year daria yeah, it was like a placebo but apparently it works im going to get one i a little closer because not only do i want a flu shot. They had me at free. They have just to let everybody you can go by for free too. Thank you thank you very much well all right well take a quick break at 5. 38 john good morning, good morning guys we are seeing some nice conditions for getting outside yet again today daytime highs get this. Only in the 70s almost a little taste of and were back time now 5. 41 new charges have been announced in the Corruption Scandal involving San Franciscos department of public works and its former director mahad mary. Businessman ball about more hernandez will plead guilty and cooperate with the governments investigation and local contractor Florence Kong is expected to plead guilty as well and admit that she bribed nuru in return for getting public contract deals. Well take a quick break here at 5. 42. Heres a live look outside at sfo what clear looking shot that is as were enjoying another day of. A readable air its going to be nice enjoy it though looks like a smoke maybe youre turning by the end of the weekend more details from john and were back turning our attention to the wildfire coverage. We have more people in san mateo and santa cruz counties now that can return finally to their homes. Cal fire removed additional evacuation orders and warnings for the czu lightning complex fires at its peak that fire displaced up to 77,000 people roughly 900 still cant go back home. The wildfires, currently 97 contained with full containment expected by this weekend. As for the other major barry wildfire complexes the lnu complex fires and the su complex fires are both still about 98 contained. Cal fire says that although the growth of the fires has essentially stopped it still still be several days before they reach full containment on those fires as well. For the first time in a month there was no spare the air alert yesterday it though was a Welcome Change for people including people the Farmers Market kron fours gayle ong takes a look there. Everyone finally came hours after a couple weeks the fighting, this is not to be taken for granted these days this you know no ash in the sky x on their quality, especially when your livelihood depends on Mother Nature is so beneficial for us to have that unclear whether because. And most of our income comes from Outdoor Markets like this vendors like eddie diaz owner of golden rules organics at berkeleys Farmers Market either lost acres or no others who suffer damage to their properties from the wildfires in and safe smoky conditions we had a lot of a problem because customers were a little wary of b a. The affecting the we assure them that everything safe just watch everything before it once you get to your house and then the bad air the bay area air Quality Management district issued spare the air alerts for 30 consecutive days the longest on Record Keeping shoppers away for weeks until thursdays on the you cant go outside and. Now its their qualities good again and its joy sing it happened. I like to support the farmers i know exactly what they grow and what i want its its a really good time to support the farmers that have. Lost so much in these last and even months. And every. Purchase that you make released goes directly to the Small Farmers air quality officials predict a good to moderate air over the next few days. But say the weekend could bring some smoke down from the north and that could affect the north bay and parts of the east bay in Berkeley Gayle ong kron 4 news. Guests enjoy the break that we get today and that nice air from yesterday continues today and we might have to hold our breath again the winds of john exactly its all about the wind shifted still wildfire season. We still have multiple fires burning across the state. So winds have spared us the past few days could be just the opposite especially towards sunday this morning though at least we have clear skies at sfo yesterday it was so foggy you couldnt see this view at all this morning air quality is just as good as it was yesterday at the coast and near the bay side too, south bay, the east bay areas have seen a return to moderate which is still right weve got our best air quality of the weekend today. So if you want to get outside do Outdoor Activities may be some exercise out there today is the best day to be doing so air quality tomorrow will be a little less good and then come sunday back to some less than ideal conditions for sure we do have a few sprinkles across the Central Valley as well as in the sea air this morning, but the bay area remaining dry. As this cold front passes across the region resulting in breezier conditions and also the cooler temperatures that were going to be seeing this afternoon you can see here in future cast that we do have those light sprinkles especially up in the sierra foothills and the sierra itself, but the bay area just looking at some clouds and also that cooler weather as i mentioned tomorrow winds begin to relax and as that happens smoke has the opportunity to filter its way back into the day, especially leaving its mark by sunday. Winds may be calm right now, but they will pick up into the afternoon expect a breezy finished here friday. As for daytime highs, you may be surprised at how cool it is about to be one of our cooler days we felt in a while 60s near the coastline and then its 70s elsewhere in the bay area. Couple of 80s sprinkled in there like in woodside but just barely at 80 degrees. Areas like san jose fall from the 80s down to the mid 70s today at 75 for the high east bay temperatures 70s deliver more a few low 80s in danville and walnut creek while oakland at 72 today, couple more 80s in the north bay but mostly 70s how an app in the mid 70s today, santa rosa at 74 today. Tomorrow will be a little bit warmer than today as will be the case on sunday to temperatures climbing just a few more degrees as we do see hazy conditions returning, especially into sunday and monday your last 2 days of summer. Thanks a lot fivefifty right now fortyniners need to bounce back against the new york jets this sunday after losing to the cardinals in game one theyll do it. The niners are fighting in the injury bug though that could potentially cause some problems of cornerback Richard Sherman hes on the injured reserve list dealing with a calf strain. So hell be sidelined for at least 3 weeks because of it also on defensive defensive end dee ford. He didnt practice yesterday because of a neck injury and on the offensive side of things we have tight end George Kittle questionable for sunday, hes got a knee injury that hes nursing from the last game. Coach Kyle Shanahan though says hes hoping for the best. We thought to be all right, you know woke up the next a little sore and he fully expects to be there sunday like he always does and just like he always plays to the game when it happens. But well give them the whole week in all always love to get him out there on friday. Well see how that goes but you know friday just to walk through anyways but candles one guy that hes ready to go on sunday and the doctors say its good to we have no problem with him going without practice and the problems going to be of shandy wheres that is a gator again you he got up in the mask up because the nfl is going to be one of the kickoff for sundays game against the jets in new york is at 10 oclock in the morning, its an early game dont forget. And the raiders are getting ready rub it in and play in their new 2 billion dollars stadium. In las vegas. Theyre coming off of a wind to start the season and they open at the legion. Monday night in prime time hosting the new orleans saints. The team wishes that raider nation could be theyre filling the stands but as we all know that has to wait for now coach gruden is making sure that they are all focused on stopping the saints and drew is going to be the greatest challenge or is this guys best thrown for more yards and. Then anybody to ever play the position so itll be a challenge. Playing conditions will be perfect. But hes not the only problem they went 5 without brees they got ty some hill and comer and they got maria got jared cook weve got to stop their offense stop a slowdown there it will be a big challenge for sir great team. And will be a challenge time he couldnt do last weekend kickoff for the raiders first home game in vegas. 5. 15 monday night. All right, heres a quick live look outside. Our camera here in San Francisco right along the embarcadero looking out over the bay bridge when a court just looking shot. Well dear california. We know these are challenging times. Rest assured, you are not alone. Weve all had to adapt. And with summer here, your energy bills might go up with rising temperatures. Together, we can save energy and money. You may notice some haze looking out at the horizon, but it shouldnt be anything like keeps you inside we are good to moderate across the bay area the poor air quality is really stacked up on over towards the western end of the sierra nevada, current temperatures in the 60s and later today, were talking 70s, mid 70s for san jose a little cooler than yesterday was well oakland and San Francisco in the low 70s this afternoon.
