KRON KRON 4 News At 5am July 12, 2024

As temperatures are a little warmer today but more noticeably wind speeds picking up this afternoon resulting in that risk of heightened fires up in the north bay, especially. This morning, clear skies for most of the bay area thin layer fog not really blocking out your view but just enough at the coast to be cooling things off. Now these peach areas these are actually fire weather watches that will take effect later this week as we see yet more winds picking up on into wednesday and friday where were at right now is under these red flag Warning Center up in the north bay for upper elevations, of marine and sonoma counties all of lake county and then most of napa and portions of northern solano counties. Why these red flag warnings. Well temperatures are still hot despite not being as warm as last week and winds are picking back up gusting these upper elevation areas as high as 25 to 40 Miles Per Hour from now until 08 00am tomorrow morning where were sitting right now with winds, relatively light for most areas but advancing through your future cast of winds here. You do see how these wind speeds do generally pick up later in the day today and especially so for the north bay, where the highest a fire danger is calistoga 22 Miles Per Hour regular wind gusts by the by 03 00pm to 04 00pm today. Napa fairfield conquer down through danville also checking in with some impressive wind gusts later on today. Tomorrow we start to see winds coming down briefly during the morning and then picking the right back up into wednesday afternoon which is where more advisories will likely go into effect to carry us the rest of the week. And its looking like thursday could be an especially when the day too so were certainly nowhere close to being out of the woods yet as far as fire danger goes. Despite the slight improvements that we are in the midst of this week 40s and 50s for your current temperatures across the bay with concord in livermore 57 40s across the north bay, some of our cooler spots. Later today, it will be 70s in San Francisco return of low 80s in oakland and mid 80s in san jose. Robin. All right. Thank you john lets check in on the traffic. Were taking a look at your commute around the bay area this morning. We are hot spot free. No big problems out there were checking out the bay bridge toll plaza. There it is a live look at 80 heading into San Francisco. It is smooth and has trouble free it is under 10 minutes from the bottom of the maze over to the fremont street exit, lets check out some more bridges shall we we have 92, this is your trip across the 70 oh bridge a little busy a little sluggish. This started in the 4 oclock hour and its getting heavier and heavier every time we check in on it so it is our busiest bridge right now, but we dont have any problems into foster city or send the tail were off to a fantastic start here the fog is an issue and thats what i want to cross the golden gate, its pretty dense this morning dense enough for chp to issue a special fund dense fog advisory, but no problems no crashes no stalls under 25 minutes rolling south nevado to San Francisco back to you. Thanks a lot rob and that now communities in the north bay again are facing a critical fire weather week. Yeah, red flag warning now in effect through tomorrow morning kron 4 Sarah Stinson live in napa county with more on what we need to know sarah. This red flag warning went into effect late last night and will continue until wednesday morning at 8 o clock and its all due to extremely dry conditions plus some offshore winds that are going to a protest that could cause a fire take a look at this map you can see the affected areas here in the north live here in napa county which will be under this red flag warning napa marin and sonoma counties all could see some major wind gusts up to 40 Miles Per Hour. Stronger winds are expected late at night in the mountain peaks and Higher Elevation areas that combined with low humidity and some warmer temperatures cause a fire to break out. We are well into october hoping were already youve already seen the worst fire season, but we still have these conditions that caused great fire danger and thats why that red flag warning has been put out by the National Weather service we caught up with santa rosa fires, assistant fire marshal about the potential for another fire to spark. And so a lot of those areas have reestablished theres brush their seasonal grasses theres definitely threat for a fire moving back to those areas again. So that is why we continue to ask our community to heed to the warnings and be prepared for another fire potentially an area that has already burned in last several years. Another red flag warning it again it goes into effect until wednesday morning however, after that theres a fire weather watch in that goes into effect from wednesday until friday. So this is something well be talking about all week long even governor Gavin Newsome brought it up saying is that the next week for the fire danger is something that we need to all watch take seriously so get that bag that go bag ready to go yet again and prepare and brace yourself for another fire danger week for now reporting live in napa Sarah Stinson kron 4 news here we go again, thanks a lot of sarah. Well red flag warning forced the closure of one road in the north bay the Marin County Sheriffs Office closed Fairfax Bolinas road between the metal club and highway one area in bolinas they dont want anyone on that road possibly sparking a fire. The closure will last until wednesday morning. The high fire danger also means the pgd could turn off your power. And that includes people in 6 of the bay area counties kron fours will tran on the story for us this morning in Alameda County good morning. Well. Good morning james altogether about 19 counties and to tribal communities. Im in Castro Valley and you can see all the woods behind me the lights are on at this particular time. But there is a chance according to pg e that they could flip the switch off. And these people could be in the dark for their benefit for their safety because of the high fire danger so take a look at your screen. We chose Alameda County on purpose because its the hardest hit county. As far as the heart of the bay area were talking potentially about 3500 customers that could be in the dark if pg and e happens to pounce on it to prevent another round of wildfires in Contra Costa County which is obviously right next door to Alameda County, not as bad even though its next door at around 536 customers and then in Santa Clara County 236 customers in that particular county in the south bay. In the north bay. You are also going to be impacted by this perhaps even by wednesday night because thats when the expect the winds to pick up were talking napa sonoma and solano counties, those particular areas of course have been devastated by wildfires and we got a chance to track down pg any a lot of people they have power shut off fatigue. They are tired of it, but they know the reason why its happening. Heres pg and e going into details about the power shut off. We are now out of psps watch which means that pg e has activated its Emergency Operations center and the likelihood psps event happening in midweek about thursday morning in the bay area. The likelihood has increased. You know the conditions right now not too bad genes and it is not breezy whatsoever but i can tell you the humidity level is very low and they do expect the winds to pick up and unfortunately we know all too well now low humidity, strong winds and heat just a recipe for disaster. Pg and e they will try their best to send people text that have signed up with pg knees so you will be notified and for those who did not sign up for text they will try go to door to door to let you know that in the near future perhaps in the next couple of hours or so your power will be out and a lot of people ask me when will the power be turned back on what they have to check the lines they will have to do it during the daytime hours because its easier to visually check the line to see if theres any damage and they say they will try to do it within 12 hours from them turning it off to them turning it back on. James darya. All right, thank you very much, well make sure to download the kron on app seeking at the very latest on the weather and fire danger and the power shut offs its free. Time now is 5 09 lets take a quick break but still ahead on the kron 00 04am morning news where negotiations stand in the senate as the deadline for lawmakers to reach a covid19 stimulus deal approaches tonight. Plus President Trump lashes out at the nations top Infectious Disease expert during a Campaign Stop in arizona. Hear what he had to say and after the break for about a month away from lake tahoe ski resorts reopening well tell you what changes you need to be aware of if youre planning on hitting the slopes and snow sounds pretty nice. This weekend talking all about fire danger that we are seeing today. Daytime highs will be a little bit warmer than where we were yesterday inland areas in the mid to upper 80s couple low 90s well, 60s remain towards the coast and 70s 80s right along the bay. You clean dishes as you cook, to save time and stay ahead of the mess but scrubbing still takes time. Now theres dawn powerwash dish spray. The faster, easier way to clean as you go. It cleans grease five times faster on easy messes, just spray, wipe, and rinse. On tough messes, the sprayactivated suds cut through grease on contact, without water. Just wipe, and rinse. Get dishes done faster dawn powerwash dish spray. Spray. Wipe. Rinse. Look at this human trying you know what he will get . Muscle pain. Give up, the couch is calling. I say, its me, the couch, im calling. Pain says you cant. Advil says you can. And were back at 5. 12 weve got some changes coming to lake tahoe ski resorts amid the pandemic though mostly apply though to indoor activities capacity limits of course will be in place and some resorts are adopting reservation system so you cant just walk in masks and social distancing will be required and that of course wont faze skiers because youre outdoors youre already wearing a mask and most wearing face coverings mask gloves are already part of the normal attire now heavily heavenly and north star or the first scheduled to open on november 20th and again well keep you updated on any new announcements they make about what protocols youll need to be aware of that radiation ok so im pretty sure that they do because we said indoor activities thats going to apply to stuff you know if youre going to lodge an you want to eat something. But with the outdoor thing i think that means you if youre having hot cocoa as you like to call while youre waiting for a strength snowboard i think that you cant like when you you have a season pass i dont know if theyre just going show up when you want to show up even the yearning of the past i think you have point yeah like a reservation they all have to work that out before november, yeah, definitely contact or at least look up your particular resort. Theyre going to cause you know the rules may change from resort to resort so. But i remains the way to enjoy we do not need that right now john not move know, its just not the weather cocoa right well save that for maybe at least another month i would love for some cooler weather though which we do have just around the corner out today, though daytime highs a little warmer today. And yeah, were still in the midst of some fire danger as well that weve been talking about this morning as for a San Francisco right now there is just a touch of fog, its definitely not blocking out your view your commute into work should be just fine. But enough of a marine layer at the coast to at least spared coastal areas, some of the 100 conditions that are inland areas will tap into later today. Concord fairfield and calistoga do have winds president but winds will be picking up even more so later on today by the afternoon a fairly breezy finish to the day can be expected especially for the north bay which is were heightened fire danger comes into play today. Look at where were heading later this week we do see red flag warnings expiring very briefly in the north bay tomorrow and then likely taking effect yet again into tomorrow afternoon. As we do see winds picking back up into your wednesday and your thursday after that point with thursday at this point looking even breezier to be expected. So we are still in the midst of heightened fire danger we havent seen much of any rain so far and months and months and that means dry tinder and also just dry conditions in general. What you see some wind with that thats where the fire danger comes into play. So fire weather watches impeach these come into effect later this week as we will see those winds picking back up into wednesday and thursday. What were in the midst of right now is the red flag warnings that you see in the north bay in red thats for a parade elevations, a marine and sonoma counties much of napa and solano counties and all of lake county this morning. Winds in these areas gusting as high as 25 to 40 Miles Per Hour which as we know is enough to result in a rapid spreading fire should there be a spark so please be very mindful of that. All week long really but starting today, 60s and 70s for your highs at the coast cooler at the coast today thanks to some marine layer a little bit of fog that we have this morning. We do see daytime highs rising elsewhere though with 80s for most of our bayside areas today palo alto in foster city each 82 while in the south bay mid to upper 80s for your daytime highs, san jose 85 today. Well in the east bay temperatures mostly 80s. Still but weve got a few 90s back in danville walnut creek in concord right at 90 or 91 degrees oakland back into the low 80s for you. Well berkeley and richmond each at 77, north bay temperatures also seeing some more 90s Fairfield Vacaville yacht bill and sonoma among those areas that are a little warmer today amid those breezier conditions too higher fire danger because of the combination of those factors. Now tomorrow and thursday we remain warm and were also going to be seeing those fire weather watches likely becoming red flag warnings come wednesday and thursday for upper elevations in both the east and the north bay friday we take a step back from all of it though winds will begin to come down into friday and look at where temperatures are heading down into the 60s and 70s come the weekend and thats not just for inland, our or our coastal areas but also for inland spots. So there is a fall feel to look forward to just around the corner, but right now were in the midst of some heat and windy conditions. Back to you all right youre telling me maybe next sunday will be hot cocoa weather that thank you john. Dont i always propone hot cocoa thats what i call you like 6 years the bridge is out there this morning. Weve got actually conditions fairly clear you can see here the right on westbound 80 moving fairly well from oakland and San Francisco, no problems here on the bay bridge. Were also checking the san mateo bridge is well the right on 92. Flowing just fine no problems to get in your way as you approach the toll plaza and no issues once you land on the peninsula and connect with one oh one or wherever else youre going and their last stop for this brief traffic check would be the richmond sandra fell bridge, youre right on west bound 5. 80 looking all right again just a handful headlights here making their way across the span and in tumor in county Robin Winston will be along with a more detailed look at the come each coming up in just a bit. 5. 18 right now and where 14 days away from the election turns out this year is historic surpassing what we saw in 2016 and in 2008 in those elections, the california secretary of state says close to 4 million ballots have already been turned an and to compare this time 4 years ago close to 407,000 bout 407 billion 4 million think about it and even though yesterday was the deadline for online Voter Registration and by mail you can still register to vote in person. Well happening today, the Republican Controlled Senate will be voting on a new coronavirus stimulus bill now this comes as the deadline set by Speaker Nancy Pelosi approaches tonight. The republicans 500 billion dollar proposal doesnt include stimulus checks. Democrats want a relief package thats worth roughly 2 trillion dollars which would include another round of 1200 checks. Todays vote is unlikely to have any support from democratic senators. What we need right now is emergency relief package with enough resources to beat back this enormous crisis and yet. Leader mcconnell this week will once again force a vote on a partisan emaciated covid bill. So deficient and laden with poison pills that is obvious he designed to fail. Were going to pass hundreds of billions of dollars in relief more than a month ago. But our democratic colleagues voted lockstep to filibuster the really even kill the bill. Well on sunday house Speaker Nancy Pelosi gave the Republican Senate and the white house until tonight to reach a deal. President trump has offered a 1. 8 trillion dollar deal but republican senators say thats too much and they most likely will not agree to it. President trump and democratic challenger joe biden are on the campaign trail trying to win votes. Yeah, but the president has shifted his attacks
