KRON KRON 4 News At 5am July 12, 2024

Mount tam in marin county and then as we zoom even further to the north youll see that weve got a lot of areas to around napa and sonoma counties look at all that purple all these areas either currently without power or soon could have power shut off today kron fours will tran is in the east bay looking at the strong winds and the outages and Sarah Stinson in the north bay. With the conditions there first lets go into the Weather Center with john trouble as it is a very windy morning. One of the windiest that weve had so far this season and that really is saying something because it has been historically windy season thus far at least these are not hot and dry winds. Rather cool and very dry which is where that fire danger comes into play very Crystal Clear skies over San Francisco, these offshore winds have pushed any marine layer really out of the region and thats why were looking at such clear skies and such cool and dry weather along with the winds out lets speak Calistoga Napa sonoma some of our windy spots right now gusts have consistently been into a 40 to 50 mile per hour range across the north bay. Well you can see the rest of the bay area solidly into a 30 to 40 Miles Per Hour range like in San Francisco Oakland Hayward on over to danville right now this is going to be something that sticks around for the entirety of your morning this is 10 45am now still very windy by the afternoon into evening tonight much calmer, this is torture evening commute still breezy but nowhere near as windy as we are this morning and by 08 30pm tonight and then eventually into tomorrow morning too much calmer conditions even yet red flag warnings remain in effect until 11 00am in fact its that same time frame for wind advisories to see you get an idea there winds beginning to calm down until late morning early afternoon around the corner as for this morning though, and thats all of us across the bay area whether youre an early riser a late riser at the coast or inland your morning commute is being accompanied by these very strong winds right now temperatures are mild with Hayward Alameda in oakland, each in the low 60s. Well upper 50s currently in san mateo San Francisco berkeley and santa rosa. Later today as winds do eventually come down we will see daytime highs comfortably in the 60s right along the coast and 70s elsewhere in the bay, robin. All right, thank you john lets check in on the traffic keep in mind you should be driving at a reduced speed across our bridges this morning, a high wind advisory for the bay bridge for the traffic looks good right. No problems here on aetn to San Francisco, a great start a quiet start smooth all the way across the upper deck so a very quick 8 minutes for the drive to fremont street, heres 92 a high wind advisory remains in place for the westbound trip as well leaving hayward over to the peninsula. 12 minutes and growing so very crowded, but no problems with no issues into foster city or san matteo were checking in on the Richmond Sandra fell bridge, its still very light very quiet. So nows your chance to get on out there beat the rush as i say 7 minutes into the north bay well check more traffic and more bridges coming up a little bit later back to you thanks a lot rob and 5 03 and the big story is the fire danger because the extreme winds. Take a look at the winds blowing this fire that broke out overnight at a u haul place in concord fire crews managed to put it out and stop it from spreading to nearby buildings on monument boulevard but this fire is an example just exactly how dangerous the winds can spread these fires quickly high fire danger forcing the Power Outages in the east bay kron fours will tran is live in orinda. In the dark i will. Good morning james and darya yes without my camera like you would not be able to see me you dont see any lights in the background as well. If there were lights you would be able to see that famous or end a theater behind me, but you can see it is dark only headlights driving through this particular location because the power is the white doubt many people spending the night in the dark and possibly throughout the whole day in the dark, lets show you some video of the when and what its doing here in concord you can see a tree actually fell. Down and took some power lines with it fortunately been sparking the wildfires there but you can see how gusty the conditions are. He trying to prevent a wildfire because if those lines inevitably go down because trees will fall just simply too strong now the lines that energize us and start a wildfire thats why so many people are in the dark. Also lets go to san leandro you can see damage at that particular location as well winds are whipping all of the place chances are. No matter where youre waking up this morning, you will step out and see debris on the ground as the winds are doing. Sold books and far as dam is tossing things around all over the bay area. Let me quickly pull up a map for you you guys talked about this a little bit earlier you can see just blanket a purple all over the bay area, the bottom line is renda theres not many neighborhoods if any. That have power at this time it is dark driving through here guys is quite treacherous because the street lights are off as well and some people they dont obey the laws and plow through them so just to tip out there to make sure even if you approach an intersection slow down be patient. As many cars will not Pay Attention to the traffic conditions and you might get into an accident i know this also as well make sure that you fill up your gas tank at places where they have power because no power means the pumps dont work and then you cannot gas get gas for your car saw. I know this is small but very important step as well weve got Team Coverage on this i can tell you can confirm james and area theres a good breeze coming through at this particular time back to you not what we want to hear chaos firsthand will starting to feel the winds pick up and another example of just how touching goal was for firefighters this morning with all this wind check this out new video this morning shot by very own john trail. On his way into work showing the fire burning here near the glen park bart station this was along 2. 80 in San Francisco. Right around 3 oclock this morning that it broke out and again another example of just how busy crews were jumping around trying to stamp out any fire that popped up during the strong winds because as we know those winds can make a fire grow extremely fast. Lets continue our Team Coverage this morning thousands in 4 counties in the north bay are without power because of the wind weve scrum for Sarah Stinson standing by with look at conditions there shes i understand youre on santa santa, someone are in counties that rights era. Yes in ross area right off of sir Francis Drake and theres a huge is full areas without power. Theres so many customers here were in county without power driving over the Golden Gate Bridge through the Robin Williams tunnel its completely dark and theres a lot of each tree branches little pieces along the road. So you want to be careful as you head out the door today you where not only is it really really dark outside, but also theres a lot of little debris in the road keep both hands on the wheel. Take a look at this video though sent to us from Santa Rosa Fire Department you can see the winds so strong that it blew over some Outdoor Furniture up there and all here in the north bay is experiencing very very high would you can tell by some of the wreckage as i said thats still on the streets you can see how strong it was there that up in Solano County we had our cameras up there where the wind was also extremely strong, i mean there reportedly gusts up to 70 Miles Per Hour in some of the ridges in mountain tops with the other strong sustained winds. The 5 to 40 Miles Per Hour winds. So its definitely have been very intense which means this power outage was warranted because weve seen these outages where there hasnt been much when we havent seen much threat but this really has been the biggest threat end. This power outage weve seen in a while take a look at the interactive pg map you can see we showed you earlier all in the purple there here in the north bay you can see just any pg e customers are without power so many people waking up this morning with absolutely no definitely been a rough 24 hours in that winds going to continue this morning. So well be showing you here on the streets just how intense that when does but also. This outage and you can see around me just absolutely no lights here officer francis sir Francis Drake though where where i have june at least at least the the stoplights are still working again if you see a stoplight thats flashing or not working at all make she treated as a soft side just take it slow out there, theres a lot of little obstacles for now reporting live in Martin County ill send it back to all right very good. Thank you sarah. 5 09 is the time. And weve got lots ahead here on the kron 00 04am morning news. Vice president mike pence. The forecast is ahead. [woman laughs] 13 is the time and happening now winds strong winds and thats making her fire danger and Power Outages around the east bay yeah weve had trees come down weve got crawford, julius evans in fact live for us in san leandro with more on some of what were seeing overnight. The only. Well james, some of the city workers just arrived to try to clear this branch so its kind of hard to see right now but ill show you that the branch of one tree right here on east 14th fell basically across the both lanes there are both ways southbound and northbound right here on east 14th street in san leandro now you can see how the branch went down at a i told this bus driver go buy a lotto ticket because she barely just missed this tree coming she said that she had just saw a bus come by passing her in the opposite direction and then she joe up here and saw the branch on the floor so she didnt see it fall, but in must a happened just minutes before arriving there and shes been sitting there for the last 40 this is kind of the scene for what i understand all east 14th street around here in the san leandro area just because it seems to be a now family just to no wind tunnel down here on east 14th street you can see how bad and how strong the winds are by the way the leaves are blind over here but. Yeah at this point lot of trees down got to be careful if youre driving through this but it can see city workers are really trying to clean it up so that ready for the morning commute back to you guys wow alright, scary scene there. Thank you very lee. Because of the strong winds and the increased risk of fire danger. Yeah, weve got several popular parks in the east bay closed in fact, heres a list of the parts being shut down by the east bay municipal utility district, additional rangers are going to be patrolling these areas to make sure that no one goes where theyre not supposed to be several parks operated by the east Bay Regional Park District close sunday because the fire dangers and the expected. Dangerous conditions that are going to be remaining through today. So thats why theyre going to keep them closed throughout this monday. This is a list of the parks again if you want to get a closer look you can find the list on our web site. The kron 4 dot com. Lets take a look at the weather thats the source of all of this this morning at 5. 15 we want to go to the Weather Center with john trouble get a peek looks like there is some fog out there as im taking it. Keep little over your yeah that over the shoulder showing a little bit of a low cloud cover that we do have this morning, definitely not your clears view of berkeley as of right now. But fog is not something that should interrupt your bridges this morning but the winds is going to be the first and foremost thing that you notice as you are getting on to our bay area bridges so looking outside there is a nice clear day for most areas winds substantial all across the bay weather at the coast or further inland north to south across the region. Were all in the midst of these strong winds and definitely something were going to notice for later commuters to so if youre driving early or you early riser its something youre going to be running into Calistoga Sonoma winds gusting into a 40 mile per hour range fairfield in danville also is pretty substantial out that direction says 10 45am now still very substantial winds across the region by the evening tonight, this is your drive home from work around 05 00pm definitely calmer winds still breezy even into the afternoon. But at least those 4050 mile per hour gusts that were in the midst of right now well have started to temper a little bit down a little bit into tomorrow morning too 08 45am tomorrow looking a whole lot better than this morning and into tomorrow evening also much calmer situation shaping up red flag warnings across the map right now from the coast to our inland spots. Were all in these until 11 00am due to those strong gusts of wind really resulting in a rise and fire danger because these are very dry winds in addition to very strong ones and high wind advisories also in effect through 11 00am today. All across the bay area if youre watching this year under wind advisories right now thats the way its going as peak wind gust during overnight hours some parts of the lake county and northern sonoma and napa counties have reported gusts in excess of 80 Miles Per Hour thats how strong its been. Near pleasanton of peak, wind gusts of 60 Miles Per Hour. Well, near oakland and pittsburgh peak, wind gusts as high as 5857 Miles Per Hour. So far this morning and during overnight hours. Now winds will calm down into the afternoon that actually gives you a chance to step outside and enjoy the more comfortable weather that we are going to be seeing later today. Temperatures mostly in the 70s with just a few 60s right along the coastline, still breezy but not too breezy to get out there and maybe enjoy some of the 70s, san jose at 72 today dublin, pleasanton each at 73 while temperatures in Oakland Berkeley and richmond in the mid to low 70s conquered walnut creek each at 76, north bay daytime highs mid to low 70s for you and across the coastal spots in the bay area a few 60s not too terribly chilly right along the coast as for temperatures these next 7 days really not changing a whole lot tuesday wednesday and thursday little cooler on friday and then temperatures right back up into the upper 70s come saturday and sunday bayside areas in the mid 70s consistently, only a little bit cooler than those inland spots are really not a whole lot of a difference there and then some 60s and 70s right out along the coastline. Robin. Thank you john checking in on the bridges, it is very windy out there keep in mind we have high wind advisories from most of our bridges and the altamonte as well so 5. 80 he to reduce your speed there. Heres a live look at the golden gate. Were checking in on what its doing fine this morning so 18 minutes nevado to San Francisco here at the bay bridge toll plaza, no delays yet, but its under a wind advisory slow it down watch out for debris scattered across the lanes out there thats a big problem on 13 in oakland, 13 at redwood, theres so much debris and tree limbs scattered across lanes there that theyre sending out crews to clear it out in cleaning up before the really picks up in that area so you will be tapping on the brakes a little bit on highway 13. Theyre both directions passing redwood, but
