KRON KRON 4 News At 8am July 12, 2024

Around for a little while longer lets check in with john and get more about that. Yeah guys winds definitely still present for a large part of the bay area while some of us have calmed down so its a mixed bag this morning as opposed to yesterdays generally windy conditions all across the region. We have seen some improvements and well continue to see those in the days to come so that your good news for sure you look outside from center tower shows you just how clear those skies are a brilliant sunrise whether youre at the coast or further inland as marine layer, not really a factor this morning, its dry and it is breezy for many areas. The combination of those 2 factors resulting in the heightened fire danger for especially the north bay and then upper elevations in the east bay, our breezy a spots right now being Vacaville Atlas peak calistoga and sonoma danville in petaluma also notably on the breezy side. Later this morning still windy for these same areas while still calm for the other areas. Noontime today we will see some breezy conditions for areas like oakland, but not enough to really be sparking up too much fire danger right along the bay towards 05 00pm generally all of us coming down and thats one of the reasons red flag warnings that do remain are set to expire today at 05 00pm all of Solano County most of napa county and then upper elevations of the east bay and then marin and sonoma counties all still affected by this heightened fire danger with red flag warning still remaining in these spots, a combination of those stronger winds and the dry conditions we still do have. Temperatures are in the 50s and 60s currently alameda in oakland, a nice calm and comfortable morning at 63 degrees. Step outside and enjoy in these areas while napa nevado and santa rosa bit on the cooler side only in the 40s and pretty windy up towards saint holy know where youre starting the morning at 66 degrees. So a wide variety of weather to start the morning off and it looks like weve also got a wide variety of traffic conditions, some of us better than others. I know we have an issue over on 6. 80 right now robin we do indeed on a fatal accident unfortunately involving a motorcyclist really tying up traffic. We have 2 lanes of traffic closed here on northbound 6. 80 of the calaveras exit it happened in a construction zone, so one of those lanes are already blocked off. But its more folks hit the road. The backup just continues to grow some northbound 6. 80 is crawling out of fremont for Mission North all the way up to the calaveras exit and the southbound rubbernecking is going to be a problem too because south bound traffic has a view of the northbound activity south stay on top of it for you no estimated time of clearing just yet also tracking a Traffic Alert here in concord east for after 6. 80 a truck involved in the crash. Theyre sending out a tow truck to clear it because its rather large and its backing up traffic here as you travel between pacheco in concord or maybe you want to go over to bay point its going to slow you down in both directions of highway 4 and its going to slow you down at the 6. 80 split as well so james and ari i will stay on top of all of these hotspots we have a lot of things working right now and ill check the bridges coming up a little bit later theyre busy to its pretty backed out there ok, thanks a lot rob. Thank you all right so one of the big stories. Were following this morning obviously is the fact that thousands of people here in the bay area are waking up once again with no power and heres a look at p g knees status map and you can see the areas in purple are the areas that have these Power Outages that are impacting communities again in all corners of the bay area. Nobodys immune south bay peninsula east bay and the north bay as well and this something weve been dealing with for we want to continue our live coverage of it right now go to kron fours will tran. In orinda one of many places you visited over the last several days that have had the lights turned off well. Fortunately the lights are back on meaning Mother Nature other than that thats still be in the dark because pg and e still working to restore power. They did that to about 200,000 people by 10 oclock last night they still have about a 180,000 people left to go in the overnight hours pg e crews, theyre actually in lafayette. We caught them at that location they were looking at the system underground they still have to look at all the. Our lines by the way of helicopter because the last thing they want to do is flip on the switch and all of a sudden theres a line down at some dry area and then spark a wildfire when all of this was to prevent a wildfire. Still a lot of people theyve been in the dark since sunday pga neither been doing this to prevent the winds from possibly damaging all the lines and then all of a sudden here comes another wildfire. The air has been clean a lot of people are happy of know wild fires but that does not mean that theyre not frustrated especially if they run a business like this gentleman. Lot of income. Im happy with the je ne i wish that they get their stuff trim the trees keep the fire danger back ive been living here 3rd 53 years and weve had when that whole time. So its so its one thing if you live in a home you dont run a business. Yes, you dont like the power out but can you imagine if you run a business youre losing money every passing day they have to tap dance. They dont know what to do and a lot of businesses rinden throughout the bay area they rely on howard to keep their Security Services going as well well hear from them a little bit later, but i can tell you a lot of people are saying whats going on. But there is a little bit of good news though because pg and e they hope to have all power restored. By tonight. Yes theres a wind event tonight. But they dont expect it to be as strong as it was sunday into monday when we talked about this james and darya word some locations locations you could hear the wind howled the bottom line is its all up to Mother Nature and pg and e they want to side on the side of caution back to you all right, thanks a lot, well check in with later. From was location there are in orinda lets head to the north bay now where people that have been impacted by the power shut offs have been without power since sunday morning. Now the Utility Company says it expects to fully restore all of those folks by tonight if all goes well, and yes while residents are bit better prepared to go without power this time around the situation. Still comes with its challenges. Super hard because my wife, sandy calm. I went one who were beaten needed warnings ahead of time so thats good. So i went out and bought thing to try to power or way for internet my father he lives off of cherry ridge road and theyve been without power have no idea when theyre going to be with our they give them no esta metaverse turrell time. Hes got a generator and he doesnt know how long that propane and that generators alaska. Yeah pgd started checking the lines and restoring power. Yesterday the utility says its actually found at least 13 cases of wind related damage, including lines that were completely down. A 100,000 people had to leave their homes because of the silverado fire. It sparked yesterday morning and in Orange County its already grown to 11,000 plus acres. It is 5 contained new number on team at this morning. 2 firefighters have been badly injured and Southern California edison says theyre investigating to see if their equipment sparked this fire. We also have crews on the way to help heres video from san firefighters leaving early this morning to head to Southern California and help battle the Silverado Canyon fire james all right now lets get the very latest on a fire burning east of anaheim in yorba linda. Its called the blue ridge fire in these are some of the latest pictures that have come into our newsroom this morning. More than 6600 acres has burned so far as this morning, the containment numbers still at 0 and thats going to be a problem with Kimberly Chang reporting. Youre looking at a home that burned near blue ridge drive in Big Horn Mountain way in yorba linda firefighters tried their best to not only protect the house but to save what items they could including the familys pets, they called my parents asking if we go and help retrieve there. Get those the lizard son. So i ran down the street in. I went to grab them. My heart breaks for them i i know this family lives in this home you know i cant imagine what theyre going through Henry Dicarlo junior and his dad katie lees own Henry Dicarlo live nearby it happened. So quick i mean weve been through this before but this is literally. 15 minutes, it was sunny and then also denies smelled smoke looked outside there was a fire coming up the hills i left my house i thought my house was gone we had flames coming over the back wall. I couldnt even see the backyard. Part of our backyard was already on fire firefighters save their home. I cant tell you how great these firefighters or flames were reported around 01 00pm residents, north of the 91 freeway near Gypsum Canyon were asked to leave their homes more than a 1000 homes in multiple communities were under mandatory evacuation orders hundreds more are under voluntary evacuation by monday afternoon were doing ok right now weve got the notice there on standby for evacuation. I mean my mom came back home pack the and right now were just waiting for the official call the fire started near the green river gulf club where we found martin mar been watching and waiting he told us the powers been out all day now we have no phone nothing out here powers been out for a while. So were just pretty much just staring at the fires. That was Kimberly Chang reporting fire Officials Say more than 50,000 people have been evacuated from their homes so far as they continue to fight this fire. Still ahead on the kron 4 morning News High School students in gilroy being told to get tested for coronavirus after a student tested positive. A big party and 2 wildfires burning out of control we just showed you very latest on that well continue to follow them. We definitely got no shortage of sunshine across the bay area this morning, the east bay looking pretty good with the east bay hills in the distance. Under a nice sunrise. We will continue to see sunshine this afternoon and slightly warmer temperatures than yesterday. Im tracking your commute this morning looking at this a fatal accidents on 6. 80 and son all we have 2 lanes closed at motorcycle crash traffic still backed up heavily leading up to the scene saw phil top of this and well check in on more hot spots coming up in a bit. 14 right now checking out the weather the sunshine tour has been 9 then johns talking more about that and whats to come for the next couple of days ahead, john yeah, ive got good news for the next handful of days. Well, good news with conditions we still though have rain so were still have plenty of dry grasses and brush. But at least the winds are calming down in temperatures by no means are going to be too terribly hot. So there is some things to look forward to in the days ahead of us looking outside this morning. All that sunshine is beautiful to look at but the sign of some very dry conditions in place all across the bay. Even out towards the coast here in timber on with the Golden Gate Bridge in the distance. Winds very breezy for the north bay, although pretty calm for bayside in coastal areas, San Francisco hayward san jose oakland, all looking at a calm start to the morning. Well sonoma calistoga atlas peak in vacaville still in the midst of some pretty strong winds most of the stronger of winds are sitting right above the bay, so surface itself pretty calm while you head up into the mountains thats where youre more exposed to these peak wind gusts by noontime still very breezy for the north bay occasional winds working down into areas like oakland and San Francisco. But not all in all the windiest of days into the close of the day this is 05 15pm look at how much calmer will be and stay that way really through the evening tonight with continually coming conditions, red flag warnings hanging on for upper elevations in the east bay along with marine in Sonoma County mountains all Solano County most of napa county as well these areas still subject to those strong gust of wind gusts and until 05 00pm today fire danger, definitely still remains a big threat and really will even after these red fort flag warnings expire but will begin to diminish as those winds begin to calm down in the days to come. Right now you do see those areas of red in the coastal ranges around San Francisco and up in the Sierra Nevada and really across the broader west coast in general this is due to some strong winds as we see that low pressure area really stirring things up across the region, but as that low pressure works its way out look at how much less of those red and yellow gradients we begin to see which indicate that increase fire weather and by the time we work into tomorrow morning things actually looking a whole lot calmer across the region and that means better conditions as far as fire weather goes. Improved weather come wednesday thursday and friday so at least we can take a bit of a breather from the red flag warnings for a few days hopefully. Temperatures today will be in the 70s for San Francisco, a few 60s right along the coastline, although overall pretty warm unclear day for coastal areas, daytime highs along the bay for a few spots actually back up to 80 degrees like saying carlos in foster city and then temperatures in the south bay from yesterdays low 70s to the mid to upper 70s today. So notable warmup east bay daytime highs also mostly 70s, although a few 80s also back in play for areas like walnut creek and concord berkeley youre up to in i 75 today while 80s and sonoma napa in youngsville his words fare as well as fairfield and vacaville, our warm spot in the bay today will be petaluma 84 degrees along with sonoma. Novato and center fell 82 today. Heres a look ahead at your next 7 days temperatures tomorrow thursday and friday, a little bit cooler. Were also going to have calmer winds on these days which is why theres not going to be any red flag warnings here saturday we warm up a bit for halloween and then sunday you get that extra hour of sleep and some sunshine when you do eventually wake up bayside areas in the 70s for your temperatures all through the forecast and coastal areas, mostly upper 60s to low 70s. Robin. Thank you john are heading back to our major hot spot in seminole and thats a fatal motorcycle crash that still active still blocking right here on northbound 6. 80 of the calaveras road exit the 2 left lanes are closed here backed up for miles into fremont beyond Mission North so be on the lookout for that crowding and then the southbound trip the opposite side stock up just a little bit leading up to the scene so no estimated time of clearing but ill stay on top of it leave early of 6 80s, a part of your commute we also have a problem here on highway 4 as youre actually between conquered up a check on martinez east for after 6 ad a crash involving a truck were waiting for a tow truck, the left lane is blocked so youre backed up about a mile or so here on highway 4 backed up heavier on west 4th, the opposite side thats filling all the way back toward the pittsburg bay point bart station they can see the eastbound activity so 21 minutes here for west for and over to concord near second hotspot that ill be tracking for you this morning. No problems on the bridges its slow but thats normal 40 minutes here is your average into San Francisco yes, theres a way but no problems here on through downtown and 92 already thinning out and looking good right traffic is improving already to the peninsula. 14 minutes, not bad to make it over to send tail back to you. In the buzz, nice to see him or envoy rise, even if he is leading a division rival as monday night saw jared goff and the rams beat the bears to rebound from a week 6 loss to the San Francisco 49 ers the niners biggest hurdle has been a high ankle sprains jeff wilson snapped after his 3rd touchdown against the patriots. Same thing that knocked out he most hurt and to jimmy g 3 weeks to and richie james junior also has an ankle injury and the niners may still be hamstrung by Deebo Samuels hammy koh chang and can only hope that more niners get healthy and time to take on the seahawks sunday. Watch every single play the whole game. I mean every time he gets hit there as it looks like the goal line is right in front of them and hes doing everything he can to cross that you can see it on the field. I want to try to talk to him during the 2nd quarter barely could communicate with me as he was in that spot side and try to mess a mess it up. But i was very happy for him and how hard he played was extremely unfortunate got hurt. I mean again the Russell Wilsons in i mean no matter what happens they have a chance and i think thats why you see so many weird and ig said. As he can always pull something out of the bag and pull something off crazy so weve seen a number of barriers so our players are ready for it is always going to come down to the wire. San francisco has whether the injury storm fairly well so far theyre 4, 3, if they want to make the postseason they got to get these guys healed u
