More than 1 million the by far in california as you can see more than 18,000 people in california have died of covid and that includes 1857 people who lost their lives to coronavirus here in the bay area with the surge in cases, doctors say working the front lines is now similar to what they faced at the start of the pandemic Dennis Shanahan spoke to an icu doctor about what theyre facing. I will send the inside were still worried about things that were worried about march doctor Christian Sand rock is a professor of pulmonary and Critical Care medicine at u c davis help and is a front line workers treating covid19 patients in the hospital so many of us on the inside or just were tired. Its been a lot of long hours. He says his fellow doctors and their families give each other a lot of support as the stress of the job takes a toll a lot of exhaustion. Both you know physically and mentally and really cant underestimate the mental side of it. He says its gratifying seeing patients recover from covid19 and get to go home but the road to recovery is often very long you know some of our patients are learning to breeze walk again regain strength. They have to re in a lot of their facilities while elderly patients and those with preexisting conditions are usually the hardest hit doctors and rock has witnessed young otherwise Healthy People suffer terribly from covid19 that part is also really you know traumatic on all of us doctors and rock says most of the cases he was seeing back in march could be connected to large gatherings but these days hes noticing a new trend now theyve actually spread where we see cases associated with just couples getting together maybe 2 couples that are kind of part of a pod or a small family gettogether of 6 or 8 people and in some cases Public Health contact tracers are unable to locate an obvious source of infection and when we start seeing that thats a sign of 2 things one the rates are rising enough where its spreading more for the general population is not the big number 2 that sort of belies a lot of the pandemic 50 bc you think well i havent seen my friend and 7 months, i havent seen my mother and this amount of time, ill just say hi to her and thats that little those little slips. Now matter when the rates are higher it matters much maybe in march. He says symptoms usually dont present until 5 days after infection, but he reminds us you can be very contagious for a few days before you notice anything is wrong. Frontline workers like doctors and rock are uneasy about the approaching holidays, its unknown and i think were all kind of worried about that he urges all of us to be extra careful wear masks in limit exposure to others outside your household thats just hard to do, but thats sort of what we need to do right its just its the difficult portion of where we live and how we live now and its just difficult for everyone worldwide Dennis Shanahan fox 40 news. Try new Vicks Vapocool drops in honey lemon chill for a fastacting rush of relief like youve never tasted in. Honey lemon ahh woo Vicks Vapocool drops now in honey lemon chill 5. 14 right now and stormtracker fours all fired up with nowhere to yeah lets find out from her back i thought i saw to our north rebecca this radar show any start to impact the north bay now. Im not quite yet to receive even further north of that so places your rico right now are definitely getting the rainfall so its closer to the oregon border, but its definitely heading our direction and in the north bay could start seeing some showers as early as 6 oclock within a 45 minutes or so from now out the door right now youd never think that the storm was on the way because conditions at sfo look great and even better news said delay free so far for inbound flights at the airport but of today that could change with the storm system heading our direction right now, but no clouds in your way as of yet and radar showing maybe just a light drizzle the green on your screen is here possibly through parts of the north bay just really like though the major shower, the major rain that were tracking is 2 of the north so like i was mentioning, it said along the oregon border, and its even serna touchdown along the coast and yes places you recant medford are starting to see some of that rain activity were going to start to see it on future cast for it looks were around the 6 oclock hour so within 45 minutes or so ukiah could be seeing some of the showers and then parts of santa rosa could start to see it and then by 9 oclock it looks the entire north bay is really going to be covered under the rainfall and really pockets of heavy rain at times see all the orange on your screen there just showing you the intensity of this rainfall. The yellow as well little bit more moderate showers so the entire north bay will be covered and then by 10 oclock it looks like much of the peninsula and San Francisco will be covered as well as parts of oakland and berkeley. And then very widespread by the noontime hour so lunch time you want to spend it. If you can not many restaurants of course the in your homes if you can because it is going to be wet. Its going to be slick out there. And its going to be very windy and then by 5 oclock tonight. Its going to be scattered showers throughout the north bay looks like the bulk of it will remain along the peninsula, our east bay zone and our south bay as it moves out to our valley locations so its going to be sticking with us through the entire day today and then things are going to start to lighten up around 11 oclock tonight so scattered showers that were expecting as we get into early tomorrow morning. So dont put the rain gear way after today, were still going to need it for wednesday because look at that were going to see anywhere from light to moderate showers throughout the day popping up tomorrow and then things are going to dry out as we get into wednesday night and then it looks like your thursday should be pretty dry as well. Its going to be really windy might have during the overnight hours, youre waking up to bit as well along the coast are already looking at gusts of about 30 Miles Per Hour for places like Half Moon Bay. Things are really going to start to pick up as we get closer to that 10 oclock hour. Were basically in the 20s everywhere, you look even 30s in some spots as far as those wind gusts go at Higher Elevations we are going to see a peak at 35, maybe even 40 Miles Per Hour. Its going to stick with us through most of the day today and were going to see the winds continue through much of your wednesday as well until a finally its going to taper off as we get closer to wednesday night so its going to be rainy and windy for today and tomorrow, future rain pretty good pretty impressive actually because we could see an inch of rain for spots in our north like santa rosa about a half inch expected in nevado and San Francisco and the same with our east bay shoreline through oakland and hayward nearing half an inch about a 3rd of an inch from Mountain View a little over half an inch along the coast for Half Moon Bay. Looking ahead the next couple of days. Yes, it is going to be wet today and tomorrow and then things should taper off and it should be mostly dry on thursday. Theres a slight chance of showers in the north bay, but it looks like its going to be a very slight chance temperatures though really evenly spread mostly in the 60s everywhere, you look at the overnight lows dropping down to the 30s and 40s. Ill talk about that coming up in just a bit for now, lets head out to the roadways and see how traffic is moving with yes off to the bridges we go starting off at 92 your driver cause the 70 oh bridge, its busy indeed are busy. Yes, a lot of folks are rolling over to the peninsula so we already have lots of brake lights right now leaving hayward west of the toll plaza but were still trouble free. We dont have any hot spots here so well say 12 minutes and growing from hayward over to send the tail here the bay bridge toll plaza traffic is looking good and moving well as its been throughout the morning drive so come on and while were still at 8 minutes off to fremont street. Were checking in on highway 4 because wes for and mckeown getting word of a car fire. So if you have to travel between martinez and hercules here theres a little bit of a back up about a half mile as fire crews are working with car fire here you can get by but its slow not a major delay, but slow enough to get out there early if you can and the better news for highway 4 we have this injury crash wrapping up in Brentwood West for at balfour its a headon crash involving a big rig at one point it was completely closed. The activity is still there they moved it off to the side that keep in mind that they may be blocking lanes once again to clear the crash but there are no longer diverting away
