Happy thanksgiving 450 volunteers here in San Francisco are pulling up to the Salvation Army to pick up a box of meals and they will be all over all delivering 4,800 meals to people in need on this thanksgiving, were hearing that its mainly elderly people who have been scared to leave their home. They dont have to leave their home and they get this meal they had so much of a need there actually supplying 1000 more meals than they did the year before. And were live showing you just all of the volunteers here joining us live now those andelman his supervisor for a San FranciscoDistrict Volunteer in today, how important is it to its incredibly important. I mean, theres theres a Food Insecurity even before covid but now in this time the need is all the greater. And as an extraordinary operation, i mean they have hundreds of volunteers coming through here with these cars. Picking these meals distributing thousands of meals out to homebound seniors. Its extraordinary. In so you the need is so great can you tell me a little bit more about that because people have been really struggling San Francisco during this pandemic yeah, i mean for folks who are stepping in unsafe going out because you know they are elderly and they are concerned about covid its all the more important to you know someone was saying today that might be the only contact that that a senior may have with someone today on thanksgiving. So this is you know that a little different from the new level of nutrition but also just at the level of having human contact. So and we know you know its seniors but lots of folks are struggling with Food Insecurity right now in organizations like Salvation Army and others are doing incredible work. To get food to folks who otherwise would not have it. And have you volunteered with them before i have i was last year was a very different experience or you know or have met turkeys and doing things that help a little more like traditional thanksgiving, but wonderful that they have figured out a way to keep you know to do that work in a in a safe, a covidsafe way. I kind of wondered, you know are they going to have to cancel things like this because the pandemic but no Salvation Army said were going to push through. Were going to supply food for those in need tell me how safe their making it for you guys the volunteers in for those include theyre being very careful that theyve done that very thoughtfully. These meals are individually packaged there all these boxes, the people are the cars there that all in tears are coming theyre driving through there having into their car and so its you know its its an amazing operation. And any message for the people of San Francisco on this beautiful thanksgiving, you know its been a tough 2021 that we all hope will be better but i think its really important that people continue to help each other out. You know we dont know whats going to be happening with federal stimulus money but theres a lot of folks who are really worried about the next couple of months are going to be like so we need to help each other and come together as a city. Thanks so much thats awesome and if youre seeing all of this and you like i kind want to be a part of something this amazing in this great on the next holiday when they need volunteers for christmas. They need drivers specifically and you can see how easy it is you just pull up they put it in your trunk that person has a truck so they made it easy and then you deliver it so if you want to do that you can sign up for christmas they do need drivers will send it back to you now okay very good thank you sarah and good to see all the. Folks out there volunteering and getting meals on this thanksgiving, 8 06 on the clock happening right now we also have historic live Memorial Church in San Francisco holding its annual thanksgiving celebration as well with covid restrictions in place of this morning those in need can go pick up a meal to go or they can dine outside under 3 tents that have been set up for them. So just keep that in mind would smoke is a major source of air pollution here in the region during the winter it could be especially difficult for children and also for the elderly to who have respiratory conditions so if you dont have to dont burn actual within the fireplace all right lets get over to the Weather Center because john has an eye on our thanksgiving forecast if youre waking up this morning, wanting to double check what its going to be like this afternoon if you have any plans to be outside. And john if people are flexible what time of day do you think its going to be warmest to eat outside before it really starts to chill down. Yeah i would say late is your best afternoon all the way till 04 00pm thats when its going to be just absolutely gorgeous out there good chance to enjoy the sunshine. Actually feel pretty good about doing it because will be solidly in the 60s. This is your view at the coast today, Half Moon Bay or other coastal spots you are in for quite a treat today because your daytime highs or sell much warmer than they have been lately back into the 60s much like the rest of the bay area will be one of the reasons its so much warmer at the coast in a little bit warmer across the rest of the bay area is because an of an offshore wind thats pushing in some warmer and drier air from our inland valleys out towards the coast. This will keep us all beautiful in Crystal Clear well through the day with certainly no fog out there. But unfortunately will just make for the obvious concerns that the breeze does bring along with it which is maybe those winds to gusty to be getting outside from time to time. We will be seeing some pretty steady winds especially for the north bay. So i know you want to get out there enjoy the sunshine, maybe just make sure that the table is a little extra secured, we will be looking at Vacaville Fairfield as well as sonoma in petaluma seeing winds gusting regularly into a 20 mile per hour range today, little lighter for bayside cities but still breezy enough so it is a Beautiful Day and it is also a windy day. So theres your one catch 60s for your highs at the coast or in financial district today for San Francisco southward it will be a much warmer day than yesterday mon terrorist 62, Half Moon Bay up to 63 today. Well looking at low to mid 60s and a few upper 60s elsewhere across the region saying Carlos Foster city 66 and feeling really nice south bay temperatures also feeling great in the low 60s for your afternoon highs, same for the east bay hayward one of our more mild spots at 64 san leandro and oakland even a little warmer than that at 66 degrees each our warmest spot today that goes to you in benicia are closest spot to 70 at 68 degrees, wonderful weather for getting outside. Just do mind the wind as high have been reminding you temperatures over your next 7 days really dont change too much. It will be cooler, but also calmer come friday saturday and sunday for the weekend just around the corner skies just as clears today will be 30s for your inland evening, lows and 40s for your bayside in coastal lows. James, all right. Thank you very much john. Happy right now the chp is beginning its thanksgiving.
