They dont even have to get out so its pretty awesome here all the volunteers helping is about 450 people who are either putting the boxes into the trunks or theyre driving the meals to those in need we know 4,800 meals are being delivered today on this thanksgiving, mostly elderly people who have left their homes in months of this only be a warm meal it also be a warm greeting. Joining us now is feel working with the Salvation Army was a homeless initiatives tell me you people know the need is great in San Francisco. Absolutely the need is great. We serving over 4800 meals to homebound seniors folks who cant leave their home due to covid19. And really were doing more than just serving a meal, its a its a happy is an interaction for a group of people who havent people face to face a long time. If you work with people face to face about people in need Homeless People tell me how big is that the need been during this pandemic more than ever right. Yet 2020 has taken its toll on a lot of people, especially folks who who are already living on the margins. So were seeing a 50 increase in folks walking up to our doors whether its asking for rent subsidies are meeting a warm meal or even going out to feed people in the street and we had a large operation running here in San Francisco. And then this year you guys had do a 1000 more meals than last year because of the need how great is it to see all these volunteers out here helping out on this thanksgiving during a pandemic could not do the work that we do without our amazing volunteers. We actually had about 450 people show up. This morning, theres a team of folks who are here at 06 00am. There was a team of folks were here days before packing the individual boxes. There was a team to drive to go pick up the meals. So this is a heavy operation that requires a lot of work. I like i said we couldnt do this without the 450 plus who are helping out today, its a smooth operation to you guys of everyone in mass they know exactly what to do. Would how would you describe how you guys are able to make this happen because its not easy when youre trying to keep it safe with this many people get what were the Salvation Army, this is this is what we do weve been here in San Francisco since. 1883 and when covid19 1st hit we went into emergency disaster mode. Which means all hands on deck from feeding folks on the streets to our sky operations like this. I and i understand people can still help out if they want to sign up people are seeing this okay i want to do something good for others like that they can help vote christmas.
