KRON KRON 4 News At 7am July 11, 2024

Clear and crisp start to the morning all over again. This view of senator tower is not looking too bright, but i think its just the shading of the shot because it is actually quite sunny out there right now we do have some haze overhead and thats a cold for it of the High Pressure ridge thats in place thats kind of keeping a lot of those pollutants we put up as we drive around right here in the bay area seal notice that haze today but abundant sunshine with that 30s 40s and even a few 50s on the map this morning berkeley right at 50 degrees oakland europe, 42 well 30s for livermore dublin conquered as well as all across the north bay fairfield our coldest of spots at 31 and petaluma nevado and santa rosa beach, a 34 to kick off this morning. So of course get that jacket ready to go as youre venturing outside you want to stay cozy out there this friday morning. Then this afternoon, yeah we got the sunshine and of course the 60s back to you. It is friday, so were hoping for friday light conditions on the roads maybe not all of the roads though it looks like theres an issue on 2. 80 rebecca, yeah, its been really smooth early on this morning. But now i do have a hot spot unfortunately and it then the upgraded to a special Traffic Alert and thats its involving a big rig overturned big rig. So its going to be out there for quite some time chp is telling us because they have to get a special. Big rig tow truck out there to try to a private and get out of the lanes but northbound 2. 80 run to magdalena avenue the 2 right lanes are shut down. Traffic is squeezing by in those 2 left lanes to avoid the mess in the backup for now because it is backing him quite quickly. You can either take a one oh one El Camino Real either of those run parallel to 2. 80 and those are going to be a much better bet for you looking really good though still nice and smooth at the bay bridge toll plaza if youre trying to get in the San Francisco this commute is great. So far problem free westbound 80, nice and smooth, nice and light into downtown San Francisco, a nineminute drive time getting over to the fremont street exit on an update on the san mateo bridge and the golden gate coming up in just a bit back to the news saying so top story this morning with more than 2800 people now dying of coronavirus yesterday alone and we also had a new record of more than a 185,000 new cases of Coronavirus Infections by all accounts they think its going to get way worse before it gets better. In the bay area Santa Clara County has record cases of hospitalizations and there are outbreaks at Nursing Homes and longterm care facilities, big outbreaks to at homeless shelters as well kron fours will tran on that story for us this morning live. From san jose will. James im in front of the Health Department in about 9 months ago they were fearful of those locations thinking they would be hot spots. So they train those people how to manage covid19 as best as they could and they did. But recently they have seen an explosion in covid19 cases at Nursing Homes homeless shelters in fact there is a homeless shelter in Santa Clara County called the book reception center. Approximately 56 of those people there were talking staff and people who use the center have come down with covid19 and then the 2 Nursing Homes. We do know the name of one of the Nursing Homes, its the amber woods gardens nursing home approximately 150 people at that location came down with covid19 obviously the residents and the Staff Members second place theyre not getting the name out. But we do know about 86 cases at that particular location pushing the mark for this 2 locations. Well over 200 cases. Theyre not sure how it was introduced to that location. But they are speculating because people come and go so often that the Nursing Homes and the homeless shelters. That is why theyre seeing an increase in covid19 cases. Cases rise in the community. That also means that there are more cases that get introduced into these current settings more what we provide we provide testing resources. So we can identify everyone whos been infected. And we provide technical in terms of helping them. Identify of Infection Prevention measures that they can implement to prevent the spread. So why are so many people coming and going from Nursing Homes, according to the Santa Clara County Health Department a lot of those places and james story i remember a couple of days ago was at Seton Medical Center in daly city. When we spoke to the ceo he says staffing is a major issue on how to handle covid19 as far as those Nursing Homes staffing is a problem for them as well so often times they rotate they go from one nursing home to than other nursing home and unfortunately perhaps thats how theyre introducing covid19 from the nursing home to the next nursing home. The Santa Clara County Health Department they will step in and try to relieve some of the pressure by providing some of the workers for those people who did come down with covid19 theyve been removed from the Nursing Homes so hopefully that will alleviate the problem. But it has exploded waking up this morning in Santa Clara County. Youre sitting at approximately 36,600 cases of covid19 in the past 9 months in close to 500 people have died from coronavirus. Back to you yeah ever since your interview will receive more more headlines about nurse and caregiver 14 and thats only going to get worse as the numbers keep climbing. Absolutely a lot of people they are going from place to place and we even talk to the ceo the other day seek Medical Center hes all for sheltering in place is offer mass but even he says a lot of people are getting tired and letting their guard down. We dont know how these people introduced covid19 in there whether theyre reckless in their personal life right, but the bottom line is as faces freelancing you go from place to place to place yeah and then he introduced make sense all right well thank you very much for the update. Breaks in Santa Clara County or just at Nursing Homes covid cases have been jumping at juvenile detention centers. Theyve had a first outbreak now at the Santa Clara County Juvenile Hall and William F James ranch facilities. More than a dozen people are infected and that includes youth and staff. One deputy public defender believes the county has failed to keep incarcerated youth safe. And says his time to release them because of covid. Less there is a demonstrated need to hold these in custody, them they should be out because the facility has proven itself incapable of protecting them and keeping them healthy hes already vulnerable kids have been subject to this deadly virus. Santa clara countys adult jails have already had outbreaks and theyve been releasing inmates to bring down the risk of transmission. Well San Mateo County Health Officials have seen a slow and steady rise in hospitalizations but overall capacity right now is about 70 . So were not at a critical stage just yet but in anticipation of a surge in the coming weeks officials have moved some equipment from the San Mateo County event center into hospitals now across the county event center was set up months ago to treat patients if hospital beds ran out inside hospitals so far that has been the case Officials Say they even have more options if the number of cases continues to rise beyond the point where hospitals can care for them. In San Mateo County. Our capacity is great we can actually stand up. The national guard. We can actually use on 369 up that hospital which is seen hospital. All patients being treated in San Mateo County are local residents. But it is possible that additional patients could be brought in from other areas. Heres a look at the latest numbers when it comes to the coronavirus for california as a whole were looking at more than one 0. 2 million cases so far since the pandemic broke out earlier this year more than 19,000 deaths in california for the bay area more than a 156,000 cases reported now with the death count. Almost a 2000 it stands at 1970. 7 09 and the bay area could be ringing in the new year at home a new stay at home order from the governor. He gave the rules of when these orders will kick in it depends on icu capacity in the hospitals. This goes into effect region by region once that region. As out less than 15 less of their icu Hospital Capacity left right now the bay area weve got 25 of icu beds available so again kicks in at 15 . Were not there yet. But at this rate of hospitalizations we could see this order take effect in the bay area by the end of decembei and that would mean 3 weeks at least of lots of closures things were used to seeing open in the last several months bars wineries hair salons shops, those would all have to close. In the event of this stay at home order kicking in retail shops would remain open, but you see longer lines because they be capped at 20 capacity. The big change to would be restaurants. We have to go to back to just take out food regal pick it up, you know at the door you cant go into the restaurant and you cant eat outside anymore. That has not happened yet but its expected to some time this and another big part of the story too we have San Francisco city leaders. Potentially acting sooner than the state would in banning Outdoor Dining fact some Restaurant Owners say theyre hearing rumblings that could happen this weekend meeting today could be the last day for you to enjoy eating outside kron 4 Sarah Stinson live in the city with more on what we know so far sarah. James were hearing from Restaurant Owners that Outdoor Dining could be banned as soon as midnight well really tomorrow mornings when really going to affect what people actually wanting to eat out and thats a big bummer to some of these Restaurant Owners who look who have built these massive Outdoor Dining sections in the parking spots some of them even making them winterize so that could be a they would go through rain shine anything but now that could all be banned restrictions would be on top of being in the purple tier. The restrictions would be coming before the governor stay at home order which we just heard has not been trigger for San Francisco yet. And so Restaurant Owners are worried because they have spent thousands of dollars on their Outdoor Dining set up. So that is the biggest concern and again we have reached out to the Mayors Office, but have not heard back yet weve been hearing about these additional restrictions coming our way all week long still havent been able to confirm that but a Restaurant Owner tells us hes frustrated because this is just a lot to handle on top of everything hes already dealt with this year. I mean its tough its so so tough to to put all that energy into building this winter ice parklet that we have over here were going to weigh all of options whether we close during the or we stick you know delivery options, but delivery options are really feasible for us. Either way shake it these Restaurant Owners are either going to have to shut down after dining at midnight if the city decides to do that or in the next week and a half thats when its expected that the governor will have the stay at home triggered right here in this city so stay tuned, were hoping to hear back from the Mayors Office this morning.
