Im noelle bellow happening right now. The San Francisco Taxi Workers Alliance is protesting the possible expansion of driverless cars. The group met at the California Public Utilities Commission headquarters today. The commission is set to discuss the interference of the Autonomous Vehicles with First Responders today. And on thursday, they will vote on whether to grant expansion of services for autonomous cars. The taxi workers say they want the commission to know theyre opposed to waymo and cruise offering 24 7 service in the city. Meanwhile, down in the south bay city workers in san jose have voted to strike for 3 days. The announcement was made earlier this morning. Kron fours will tran has more on what happens next. It is official 4500 workers for the city of san jose. They will be going on strike in about a week and a half from now. We have deborah labelle. Shes the Union Executive and they just held a News Conference saying that they have tried and tried to work out a deal with the city of san jose. But so far, no deal and theyre hoping to send a message to the city of san jose. Specifically the mayor of san jose to see if they can get exactly what theyre looking so thank you for joining me, deborah. How far apart are you at this particular time . Were actually not very far were 15 Million Dollars over 3 years in a 5. 6 billion dollars apart 15 million might not be a lot the council budget. But for a member who is struggling to pay their rent, that extra percent or 2 everything, means. That they could pay their electricity. Do means that they could pay their water means that they might be able to get house and into an apartment a strike. Vote was overwhelming. 99 of your constituents voted yes, yes, im 99 of our members have decided that theyre going to stand up for themselves and their community and the residents. Most of our members are working to people stops at a minimum at this point. They see their coworkers lead to another city right next door and earned 20,000 more. Its not sustainable if they dont raise the wages at your News Conference. Much was mentioned about how the city of san jose being weekend world class city, the people you claim work here, they can drive 10 miles to santa clara and make thousands of dollars. Yes, they can work for the county today make more and the money is in the budget. Its a matter of priorities. Its a matter of the Council Members prioritizing the people who serve this community. When will you go on strike right now . The strike is scheduled for august 15. There is still time for this administration to avert a strike. Were willing and able to come to the table and date that we tell this is a little bit different other types of strikes, meaning if the other strikes were talking about, they go on indefinitely until they reach a deal. But the executives, they have agreed that this will be threeday strike. And even then if there is a strike, it would be the biggest strike in the city of san jose in the past 2. That was kron fours. We got to 102. In concord, not far behind it. There in antioch, you can see livermore about 100 degrees. 95 even in redwood city. So it was a very warm sunday. Now we are expecting to see temperatures a little cooler today. You can see a little bit of a haze out there. Lots of blue skies right now. 66 in San Francisco or 76 in oakland, 90 degrees already, though, in san jose in livermore just popped up to 96 conquered. Right now, 91 santa rosa 89. So you saw little haze there. I wanted to mention that because we do have moderate air quality today. Obviously we have some at ald to the north of us to the south of were expecting things to get better for us tomorrow. But right now that haze is because of that air quality has slipped just a little bit, little bit of wind out there, too, worried about 12, 13 Miles Per Hour from San Francisco right across the bay into oakland and then down to concord. And this is kind of what were looking at. You can see how the marine layer as kind of pulled away. Weve had a compressed, a marine layer that is going to change as we start to get into this evening. And that is why were going to see all of our weather start to change as well. So right now, very blue skies out of Half Moon Bay. Thats always an indication of whats going on with the marine layer, right . Because thats where you kind of see it first. And today were looking out for highs a little bit cooler than yesterday. But still, you know, those upper 90s, the inner east bay, you can see mid 90s up in the north some 60s 70s 80s kind of elsewhere. The Oakland Unified School district, one of the first to head back to the classroom followed by San Francisco and several east bay districts which will begin instruction next week. Napa valley schools will return on august 16th with some districts like saint and Howell Mountain elementary starting as early as this wednesday. Yeah. As of yesterday rolled back home. Chaos in the east bay as Law Enforcement have to respond multiple sideshows and antioch sunday morning just before 03 00am a car crashed into another vehicle at a fire hydrant at west 9th and g street. Thats the aftermath there. Police say a woman in her 50s suffered major injuries. The driver of the suspect vehicle involved was caught after trying to run away. Police say the 21 yearold was on a nobail warrant out of Santa Clara County for previous sideshow activity. This wasnt the only incident they have to respond to. Additionally, right after that, we were dispatched to hear at the antioch arena for one vehicle into at the end of the antioch area. Did get away before police arrived. They have not been identified. Officials say another vehicle also crashed into a different fire hydrant in the parking lot of the antioch marina. Traffic on the bay bridge was slowed sunday afternoon because of several bicyclists who are in the lanes of traffic. It happened around 3 in the eastbound direction. Causing delays for hours. This is video from the citizen app of those bikers getting onto the bridge video posted to twitter by safe street. Rebel shows a group of bikers stopping on the eastern span, taking pictures and videos on their cellphones. The images posted alongside a vulgar antique car message. Its not clear if anyone was cited or arrested here. But if you recall this same thing happened on the bridge exactly one year ago, safe street rebel also posting about that event with the same anti car message. Although the twitter accounts as they did not organize the ride, you can see here bikers popping wheelies, weaving between cars and taking over several lanes of traffic when this happened last year, chp said the bikes were on the bridge for about a half an hour before officers were able to direct them off the road. Oakland. Down in Southern California, 2 firefighters and a pilot are dead after 2 helicopters collided while fighting a brush fire in the region. One helicopter landed safely after sunday nights accident. The second crash killing all 3 passengers on board. Fire crews are battling the 20 acre broadway fire in Riverside County when the collision happened. The National Transportation safety board is now investigating the crash. The man charged with attacking an elderly woman in San Francisco was in court for his preliminary hearing. San francisco da Brooke Jenkins office says 27 yearold James Lee Ramsey attacked the woman on ellis street on july, 25th around 11 15am, in the morning. Ramsey allegedly not to the elderly woman over and spot on another victim. A witness nearby saw the incident and detained him until police arrived. Prosecutors are planning to request request pretrial detention for him because they believe he poses a Public Safety risk. Ramsey faces multiple charges and could face 10 years in prison if hes convicted. Make sure youre being safe. Now the good news is after today. Were going to see big difference in our forecast. So you can see our inland valleys. And thats, of course, whats allowing us to be warm to hot, get those inland 90s today. However, as we get to tomorrow, were going to get a little trough ing meaning that we have low pressure thats now to the north and west of us. That will be dropping in a bit and that will be dropping those temperatures 10 to 50 degrees is also going to allow that marine layer to expand, which means that if you are in San Francisco youre going to get the fog back or 8 tonight, weve had a big break from that. And thats been kind of welcome to those who live in the city. However, for those inland, thats really going to make a big difference, said that marine layer moves in brings that cooler moister air in. And these are the highs will be looking out for tomorrow. Organizers say to bring awareness to h r 15, 11, the registry bill, the bill would allow undocumented people to apply to be permanent. U. S. Residents. The marchers are calling for passage of this legislation that is sponsored by u. S. Representative zoe lofgren. The bill would provide lawful permanent resident status to certain longterm residents, including the undocumented. Organizers tell us it would allow about 8 million undocumented residents who so now with into this thing thinking would think know that it is to the prohibition of 1929. Oh, but make racial law. Attorney civil rights attorneys have asked the department of justice to investigate the antioch Police Department over allegations of civil rights violations. Civil rights attorneys john burris and ben nice and bomb say the department is engaged in systemic practices of racial, homophobic and antisemitic policing. The Police Department is being investigated by the California Attorney Generals Office already along with the fbi and the contra costa das office. Much of those investigations revolve around chains of racist and homophobic, Text Messages involving at least 45 of the departments approximate 100 officers. Well, here in san jose, thousands of city workers have voted overwhelmingly to support a threeday strike next week. San jose city workers into unions have voted to authorize a 3 day strike starting tuesday, august 15th running through the 17th 4500 workers from across the city, including employees at the airport and city facilities, such as libraries are now set to walk off the job next week. The union say that they have been negotiating with the city for months and that the main sticking points are disagreements over wages and benefits. The unions also say they want the city to address staffing shortages. Striking is a last resort. Our hope is that city Council Members and mayor mahan. Well, finally this into in a just under staffing crises impacting libraries. The airport Affordable Housing Emergency Response times and monday morning state Assembly Member ash kalra who represents san jose was critical of mayor matt mahan is handling of the situation called on him to do more to support workers. And so when the mayor. Its our residents against our workers. That is not leadership. That is cowardice. We have to make it very clear that investment in our workers an investment in our residents. On monday afternoon, mahan reacted to the news that a strike is imminent, saying that the current city budget doesnt support what the workers are asking for. You know, im not going to get into politics at the end of the day, budgets in contract negotiations are a math problem. We have a certain amount of revenue. We have a cost of delivering services and were constantly striving to strike a fair balance between increasing wages were offering a 5 increase yearoveryear. Plus 3 additional weeks of paid parental leave. Will surf to be fair to our residents who rely on city services. At this point. Its unclear when contract negotiations may resume. Rising Global Temperatures and sea levels are causing some of the worlds tourists attractions to face an uncertain future. Alaskas Mendenhall Glacier attracts thousands of visitors every year, but data from the university of alaska southeast reveals the glacier is melting rapidly from 2007 to 2021. Warmer temperatures have caused the glaciers face to retreat the distance of 8 football fields. The issue is causing tour groups to think of other ways they can earn money in the future. One of the many reasons why we have well watching such a large part of our business now as well as city tours. At the famous saint marks square in venice, italy, which is known for flooding high tide waters recently submerged. The historic site. Again, you can see people walking in ankle deep water there. The United Nations has recommended venice be added to its list of World Heritage sites in danger. Its kind of all about extremes right now with our weather kind of observing those extremes and you can see where the extremes are. Weve got extreme heat, of course, in the southern tier. You can kind of see that here with all of the advisories and warnings and all the orange in the pink. And then today we actually have severe thunderstorms that are threatening not just one part of the east coast. You can see the entire east coast all the way from back down into parts mississippi and alabama going all the way into new england today. Also, if we come over to the west coast, your eye might notice this little circulation right here. We do have a Tropical Storm Tropical Storm eugenia sitting off the coast of mexico. You can see its about 45 Miles Per Hour. Wind right now. It is expecting to go whats called post tropical meaning its going to weaken but notice as it takes that turn pointing itself right towards Southern California. So what that means for us as we take a look at future cast, not so much that were necessarily going to see any rain out of it. But look at Southern California starting to see a little bit of precipitation. A little bit of that humidity and cloud cover that could come our way as well. So theres wednesday afternoon. You can see wednesday into thursday, some of this trying to develop here. So something to keep an eye on. Certainly as we go throughout the weekend, it does happen this time of year. It is a pretty common sight that we start to see some of those tropical systems that do affect our weather a little bit. Obviously not really affecting us today, though, as we take a live look at the Golden Gate Bridge, which is where we usually see that marine layer presents. And instead we are seeing those blue skies that are out there, but that marine layer will be returning tonight to San Francisco. So expect time we get into the evening. The American Academy of pediatrics reaffirms their 2018 policy on supporting gender affirming care for transgender youth but says their guidelines for doctors may change. The academy says the review of Scientific Evidence released since 2018 supports the policy. But also recognize the need for Additional Research to establish guidelines for pediatricians going forward. Gender affirming care refers to a range of services to treat gender dysphoria, which increases Suicidal Thoughts Among transgender kids. According to the human rights campaign, this type of care is now banned in 19 states. Critics argue treatments have not been studied enough to understand the longterm effects.
