They said it was 23 an hour in california. 21 outside of california adding that its already kept its promise of adding 10,000 new Coalition Representative employees. He died last month days after he was attacked by a man who was stealing 2 cans of beer from the shop that he was working today. The district attorney, brooke jenkins, is announcing that santos de la rosa from hollister has been charged with murder Second Degree robbery and assault with a Deadly Weapon last month, San Francisco received funding from the federal government to combat retail crime. And jenkins says shes hoping that those funds will help prevent tragedies like these from happening in the city. He was simply doing his job, trying to make sure that people have access to goods in the community and he lost his life. He did not get to go home because somebody decided not only that they would steal from the store, but that what they were taking was worth his life. We as a city should be outraged by that behavior and we should understand that each and every day workers who work in our city and in our stores face that same threat. And that is why we must be vigilant in making sure that we do away with this culture that people can go into our stores and do whatever they want. Well, de la rosa was arraigned thursday in a San Francisco courtroom and was denied bail. Time now is 907, in the east bay. A man was arrested for a stabbing deaths that happened at a Mobile Home Park in union city. We covered this live yesterday here on the kron. 4 morning news breaking news and now we know the details of what happened. 3 people were stabbed. One person died. The other 2 were injured. This happened yesterday morning at the tropics Mobile Home Park on almaden boulevard. Its disturbing and a little frightening. Heard that there was some kind of altercation. A couple of people got stabbed. And when police got there, they found the 3 people who were stabbed and one of them died at the scene. And then a couple hours later, police made an arrest. They arrested Carlos Hernandez in mountain view, but they are still investigating the motive. In the south bay. A migrant bus arrives from texas. 12 migrants including 5 children were bused from texas and dropped off in san jose, santa clara immigration Officials Say they were just dropped off there with nothing saturday night bused in from el paso. And in fact, they were on the streets for several days before a neighbor finally called a nonprofit for help. And the migrants are now in a temporary shelter. Well, new this morning, the Oakland Chamber of commerce is asking the city to seek state funding to help install automated license plate readers throughout the city. In a letter to mayor sheng thao, the group says they believe the adoption of these cameras and the use of state funds will help fight. What theyve seen is an increase in retail crime, residential crime, commercial theft as well. They continued on to say that the technology could help fill the gaps of the. Oakland Police Departments staffing problems. They also state that they can be used to locate stolen cars to like mayor thao to think about it. Emergency services in san ramon, by the way, are implementing a new phase in a program to improve their response to mental disaster calls or distress calls. Its scenes like this that give pause to those who work in security video showing tsa workers at Miami International airport allegedly caught stealing from passenger bags as they are being scanned back in july. Tsa says the officers have since been removed and some say this is an example of what suspected criminal activity could possibly go on amongsp airport workers were the worker. Department store where they work in an airport, theyre still going to be that petty theft. There goes on the thing that we get more focused on is. Individuals or groups to get employed airport entity where they do have access to aircraft and their ability to smuggle guns and drugs. Tsa says it has been continuously working to block Insider Threats for years. Now. In 2020, the agency rolled out a Strategic Plan to try to further address it. It has also begun enhanced security screenings for certain airport workers just like with passengers go through when they show up at the gate. What i can tell you anecdotally from talking to various Aviation Security professionals and individuals with in the system across the country is we are starting to see an uptick both not only recruitment but of individuals that work at airports, but also people who are already here, gang are involved in criminal activity trying to get employment at the airport with long as theyve got a clean background. Havent gotten into that much trouble yet. Hiring is a rigorous process and workers undergo. Thorough background checks. While there might be a hiring shortage. Its hard to make that one for one. The equation or that one for one comparison to say theres our insurance, therefore rushing people through a process. Because that process takes a certain period of time. The 95th civil support team, which is part of the weapons of mass destruction team. I got to tell you, it was hard to even get you guys to tell your story. They say theyre with walmart. Theyre not. They say you need to give money back on a fraudulent transaction and they the and then they offered to do a transfer to the local Law Enforcement to look like as that proves that theyre legit or something. They they that they they have your name and your phone number and your address so that, you know, you might think its legitimate. However. Walmart and the police point out, you know, you can get your name and address and all that anybody can over the internet. That doesnt mean that theyre legit. And then also you can disguise your number. Its coming from. It looks like a legitimate business. They do not want you to fall for these phony walmart calls. But more developing news now. Prosecutors say the 2 yearold who was pulled from a bathtub in rodeo earlier this week did not drowned. But instead died from abuse. They also say that there was a second child abused in that home suffering lifethreatening injuries. Investigators found the children at about 9 oclock monday night after receiving reports of a toddler drowning the child was taken to the hospital. But unfortunately did not survive so destiny. Deebo and tyshawn haywood. Are now charged with murder, child abuse and torture. Theyre each being held on a Million Dollars bail. The 2 san jose daycare. The san jose daycare were 2 toddlers drowned was ordered to be shut down immediately. State officials issued a license suspension against the owners of happy happy day care. They say 3 children fell into the daycares backyard pool on monday. 2 of them died. They were both one year old girls. Regulators are also considering whether to impose an 11,000 fine against the owners in connection with that grounding. Its 9. 37, and we have a story of a shark attack. A swimmer disappeared awful point rays. And his friends and family say that it was 52 yearold felix louise. No shy. Hes a popular fourwheel kite surfer and he was out in the water on october. First off, a wild cat beach. Friends say they saw a shark in the area and they saw blood in the water and no sign of him. And at this point, Officials Say he is presumed dead and theyre calling this recovery effort. On the peninsula, 5 people, including a teenager have been arrested now in connection with an attempted stabbing in san mateo. Police say the victim was waiting at a bus stop in front of the wells fargo at the Hillsdale Shopping Center when he was surrounded by a group on wednesday. The victim says the 5 men punched him and one of them pulled out a knife. You can see a picture of it here. The victim ultimately escaped and called police. And when officers arrived, they were able to track down and detain those 5 attackers. 9. 38 is the time and you to know about something new in the south bay. New housing is coming to san jose. The vta board of super our directors just approved a 5 year lease deal with the city about 7 acres of land at the teas bus yard is going to be used. And as this is to build 200 transitional units of housing on that site. Now, the state recently awarded the city the money for this. The tape previously was offering some alternative sites because they had safety concerns. But in the end, the boards vote was unanimous. And kron fours terisa stasio shows us what theyre doing. And just words of encouragement to just knowing yourself in freeing yourself. And i think thats a big theme for our son is here and undocumented communities, where find your voice, find your voice. Find your our team. Our cause is the Program Services coordinator for the undocumented Community Center at Skyline College in san bruno growing up with immigrant parents, he says helping others navigate Higher Education is deeply personal. The whiteboard is pinspirational. Messages is just one of several ways. Marquez says his team is trying to reshape college and make it a successful experience for undocumented students. Im able to expand all of those experiences able to provide some much more of my knowledge. So much more. Advocacy 4. Underrepresented in under marginalize group, especially when it comes to Higher Education. The latest figures from the california Community College system show that 50 to 70,000 undocumented students at 10, one. Of the 116 campuses in the state. A recent chancers report also revealed shortcomings for the groups such as failing to provide an adequate support system to help students earn a degree or advance to a fouryear institution. Undocumented students dont have a lot those opportunities or if they dont. They are not aware of the opportunities that are given to them when it comes to Higher Education. So being in the space like that is and means that i can hide and strengthened advocacy for students. They just want educate from Financial Aid assistance to emotional and Mental Health support to nutritions such as maintaining a snack area for marquez says that he and the team have worked hard to make this a Safe Community space. The mission of drum set is basically provide support to undocumented immigrant sfudents. So i i mean, i am in even myself. I had to face a lot like a social and economic obstacles. Just for me to be here today, arthur. All lorenzo is one of the team members at the center with his sights aimed at law school. He enjoys tackling problems for the students. It is a great contribution and also a great training for the future position that im going to be. Taking a low from providing assistance for other undocumented immigrants that wants to build a future america. Marquez says that the center has helped more than 500 students in his nearly twoyear tenure.
