Suspect and new video emerging of an east bay Police Shooting that contradicts officers testimony as to why they say they opened fire on the victim. And the California Department of Motor Vehicles has suspended crews from operating its driverless taxis in San Francisco. How the company is now responding. News station. Hes calling news 2. Thank you for joining us here on kron. 4 news at 2. Im Justine Waldman and joseph emerson. A Pleasant Hill faces 167 charges, including attempted murder. Hes accused of trying to shut down the engines of a commercial plane that was filled with passengers on its way to San Francisco. He was off duty at the time. Were learning a lot this afternoon as to what unfolded kron. 4 Charles Clifford joins us now live from Pleasant Hill with details from what the Court Documents are saying. Its involving him possibly taking mushrooms. Well, so this the issued a criminal complaint against the suspect in this case accusing him of interfering with the operation of an aircraft. We have reviewed that document which shed some light on what may have happened on the plane. In a federal criminal complaint filed against joseph emerson, the fbi says that the pilot and copilot of horizon flight 2, 0, 5, 9, had casually spoken with emerson who was sitting in the cockpit jump seat for several minutes after takeoff and did not initially believe that anything was wrong. They also claimed to have never met in person prior to the flight. But according to the fbi, while the plane was flying over oregon emerson suddenly said i am not okay. He then allegedly reached up and pulled to read engine, showed off, handles one of the pilots then struggled with emerson for several seconds. While the other pilot declared an inflight emergency turned the autopilot off and change the aircraft course to fly to portland. Emerson then left the cockpit and walked to the back of the plane where he allegedly told a Flight Attendant you need to cuff me right now or its going to be bad. The Flight Attendants then placed handcuffs on him or somebody allegedly tried to grab the handle of a nearby emergency exit and had to be restrained. Emerson was aleo overheard saying i messed everything up and that he had tried to kill everybody after the plane landed in portland. Officers took emerson into custody while being questioned. He told police that he was having a nervous breakdown and had not slept in 40 hours and felt tired and dehydrated. He also allegedly denied taking any medication but said that he had been depressed for several months. He also talked about the use of psychedelic mushrooms and said it was his first time taking mushrooms, according to the Portland Police department. Emerson waived his rights to attorney and said im admitting to what i did. Im not fighting any charges you want to bring against me guys. All right. Back live now. The fbi also says that the plane was just seconds away from losing power and becoming a glider at high altitude. Police say an Antioch CommunityService Officer requested backup after spotting 2 cars parked on west 3rd street. Wanted in connection with the recent burglary in town. The cell phone video picks up the encounter with mac and running away from the vehicle and then being chased by the officers and canines. And in the video, you can distinctly here of the shots ring out while he still within view, the Contra Costa CountyDistrict Attorneys Office has charged makin with assault with a Deadly Weapon on a peace officer. Felon in possession of a firearm receiving a stolen vehicle and resisting arrest. He also had a warrant for his arrest for his alleged involvement in a homicide. One of the things hes been charged with those assault with a Deadly Weapon. Lets not the firearms charge. And so theyre not alleging that he i did. The da is not alleging that he actually pointed a gun at original charges to suggest that actually have the District Attorneys Office declined to comment on this case because it is ongoing. But a spokesperson acknowledges prosecutors have seen the cell phone video. Though it is not clear if the das office was aware of the video before makin entered a not guilty plea at his arraignment last week. A big setback for Driverless Cars in San Francisco today. The dmv suspended cruises permit to operate its Autonomous Vehicles immediately. The dmv says cruises vehicles were deemed to be quote, not safe for the publics operation and that the company misrepresented information related to their safety. In a statement, cruz says the suspension is linked to the dmv investigation into a collision from october. 2nd, a hit and run driver hit a woman in the area of market and 5th streets that knocked her into the past of a cruise vehicle. The company said the vehicle detected a collision and came to a stop. But then tried to pull over to avoid further safety road issues and pulled the woman forward about 200 feet. Cruz says it is fully cooperating with the investigation. Today. Suspension does not impact cruises permit for testing of vehicles with a safety driver inside.
