Its a crazy story a lot of people are talking about in Court Documents now reveal Joseph Emerson. Who lives here in Pleasant Hill said he had taken magic mushrooms in the days leading up to the flight in question and that he hadnt slept in many hours. And today in court, he pleaded not guilty to 83 counts of seconddegree attempted murder. Admitted to taking magic mushrooms before boarding the plane. Prosecutors say the offduty pilot tried to pull on the handles of the planes, Fire Suppression system while in flight. If he was successful, it would have cut off fuel to the planes engines. Tuesday afternoon, Alaska Airlines pilot 44 yearold Joseph Emerson of Pleasant Hill appeared Oregon State Court pleading not guilty to 83 counts of Second Degree attempted murder and one count of endangering an aircraft. Emerson attempted to cut the engines of the plane sunday night forcing the flight to make an Emergency Landing in portland. Jumped pilot. So exactly pilot to get a ride, trying track down the end their verdict. The landing foreman Court Documents say emerson told the 2 pilots he was not ok before you grab the Fire Suppression handles. The pilots grabbed his wrist to stop him. The documents go on to explain. Emerson said his best friend recently passed away and he was in a Mental Health crisis. He had not slept in over 40 hours consumed magic mushrooms. Approximately 48 hours prior voluntarily and justin alcohol drugs and that committee and the crime. Its not a defense. He also told officers he struggled with depression for 6 years. But defense attorney Michael Cardoza says he doesnt believe emerson will be able to use Mental Health as a defense as far and senate. Cant be used here. The fact that he voluntarily use the drug. Gates using this as a defense of the case. In addition to the state charges, emerson faces one federal charge of interfering with a flight crew. Cardoza says emerson may receive months or even years in federal prison. Police say an Antioch CommunityService Officer requested backup after spotting 2 cars parked on west 3rd street wanted in connection with the recent burglary in town. Felon in possession of a firearm receiving a stolen vehicle and resisting arrest. He also had a warrant for his arrest for his alleged involvement in a homicide. The citys been recruiting and also moving officers back onto the streets. They rotated special units, officers back out to patrol shifts. The Department Also collapse. The Traffic Division moving those officers back to patrolling. And detectives also rotate on patrol now as well. The deputy chief of police says the goal is 132 sworn officers right now. They stand at 76. We need need a Traffic Division. Traffic horrible here. But are we have so few officers they they can and they do a great job out there. Theyre stopping people arresting people. Im shocked with them and people that they have. But we need to get back to that. I think if we get close to 132 sworn, then we can start having those special teams again. The city is looking into using billboards in the near future to help in recruiting new officers. They say theyve been attending careers fairs at community colleges. This all comes as the vallejo Police Department is currently under supervision by the department of justice.
