The suspect in the grisly sonny bill murder has now been identified more than 4 decades later. Authorities say after years without any new leads. There was some new technology that helped them crack this cold case. Kron fours Ella Sogomonian live now in the newsroom with those details. L a well, just saying this is a case that dates all the way back to 1979 still 11 men. It was working as a Security Guard in sunnyvale for a local business when she was found stabbed several times. She was found dead by officers with the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety but connected at the crime scene had no matches at the time with the national dna database. The case remained dormant with no leads until october of last year. Thats what authorities submitted the dna for whats called forensic investigative genealogy. Its a tool that has only been available in recent years. Additional testing of menace belongings at the time of her death led investigators to a suspect. This man, samuel silva, a former resident of sunnyvale with a lengthy criminal history, including assault and Violent Crime silva would later live in colorado where he died in 2008 after further investigation. Sunnyvale dps announced today that they can close this cold case by naming silva as the killer. They say the Santa Clara County das office and multiple agencies in colorado help them reach this conclusion, although we may never know motive for this crime.
