Im Justine Waldman are also tracking all the local weather conditions, including whats going on in the sierra where there is a blizzard warning and ski resorts have already decided to close. So were taking a live look now at both the bay area and south lake tahoe. Were going begin now with a check of our conditions. Kron 4 meteorologist kyla grogan in the Weather Center with a look at whats going on and that our radar is lit up this afternoon. Yes, it is. Weve got rain coming in the bay area. Were about to see the next push of some of these showers rolling in and they will be heavy at times. So. Get ready for it. And obviously we also see that sierra snow. It is turned on and cranking right now that snow machine and thats going to be happening all throughout the night tonight, too. So lets zoom in and take a look at our current current temperatures. Im sorry. I heard rain totals here as we take a live look at San Francisco where the the clouds have been lower and you can see some of high elevation rain that has come down over an inch and a half and then loman in mount diablo. But even orinda 3 quarters of an inch over half an inch in santa rosa over 3 tenths in San Francisco and san jose right now seeing some of those showers come down. Were also seeing the winds start to pick up where under a wind advisory and you can see San Francisco now, 29 Miles Per Hour. So this is all part of whats happening with this storm as it rolls through. And this high wind advisory goes through 10 00am on saturday. So between now and then if youre going across anywhere, bridges, youre going to feel that here is a look at whats happening right now or minute check out some of these showers. You can see where the yellows and oranges start to pop up heavier showers. Not right. Making our way through nevado at this hour and certainly a few out to roll right into San Francisco. If you dont have the umbrella out, youre going to want in a few minutes. And san jose is just seeing some really heavy showers roll through 2. I saw the skies darken there. And so theyre seeing, as you can see, showing up on the reflectivity here, some of those that have just passed them by. So i think were all going to be involved in this one. Its all said and done. And if you have seen it already are likely to see a little bit more of that as we go through future cast, you can see these lines of storms that could have thunderstorm potential. Well, across the north bay on friday, the rain was sort of hit or but we are expecting more moisture throughout the weekend and many people who had plans to go to tahoe have canceled those plans. On friday, the rain was off and on across marin county and the battle neighbors were going about their business and getting ready for what will probably be a wet weekend. Dont really like being out in the weather. But, you know, we have places to go things to do so until kadi who work. Security said hes not excited about the rain but knows its for the best california. We do need the rain. So and while more rain is on the way over the next couple of days, its not expected to be a major storm here in the bay area. The real action is in the sierra where forecasters are predicting blizzardlike conditions and multiple feet of snow. We were just up in we got out before the rain. They originally had plans to go back to the mountains this weekend but change their minds after seeing the forecast is going to my sisterinlaw. Were going to leave this afternoon just didnt do. The driverless robotaxi is have just received the ok to expand its operations outside of the city limits of San Francisco, the California Public Utilities Commission now approved ramos planned expansion as far south as sunnyvale. And also to parts of los angeles. Waymo had already received approval from the department of motor vehicles. Various jurisdictions, including san mateo county, have opposed this expansion. They felt that these decisions should be left up to local governments and not to 2 state agencies. There was a bill that was introduced by san jose state. Senator dave cortese. That would put those decisions back into the hands of local lawmakers. However, its unlikely that that bill will be voted on before this fall. So this does not mean that waymo vehicles could start showing up at San Francisco International Airport in time soon because that does require a special permit and approval from sfo. But again, it has just now received the ok to expand outside of the city limits of San Francisco. Some developing news now. A 4th suspect has been charged with the murder in the killing of Oakland Police officer twan lay lay was shot and killed in december while responding to a burglary near Jack London Square suprun russell joins marks. Sanders marquese cooper and alan brown and being charged with las murder. Russell was originally charged with 3 counts of burglary and entering a not guilty plea. Prosecutors believe it was sanders who pulled the trigger killing lay the Alameda County District Attorney pamela price says in part, quote, we will not stop until everyone who participated in his murder. Hes held accountable. The 4 defendants are scheduled for a preliminary hearing on monday. March 4th. There was a tragedy on the tracks and after 10 this morning a caltrain hit and killed the person just after 10 00am near fair oaks lane. Thats right by the post office. The agency says the victim was on the tracks when the train heading from san jose to San Francisco hit them. Its unclear why they were on the tracks. There were more than 100 passengers on board the train. None of them were hurt. Caltrans service was suspended for a short time, but it has now resumed. San Francisco Mayor london breed is touting the reduction in the number of homeless tense on city streets. Those tents occupied by the unhoused fell by 37 in the last quarter. Kron fours Michael Thomas reports now from the newsroom with the latest details. Theres been no official word from supervisor. Aaron peskin on the launch of his official mayoral campaign. However, sources tell kron 4 we could see that official announcement. As early as next week and the decision to run is partially based off of former San Francisco mayor mark farrell is decision to also joined the race. And the idea behind that is that theres currently no progressive candidate in the running currently supervisor peskin serves as the president of the San Francisco board of supervisors and hes been on the board on and off since the early 2, thousands, but currently is set to turn out later this year. If he does officially joined the race, will he be joining incumbent mayor london breed supervisor ahsha safai. Philanthropist Danielle Lawrie and former San Francisco mayor and supervisor mark farrell, a poll that was recently done in february by the San Francisco chronicle showed that a majority of residents do not approve of the way. Mayor london breed is currently running the city. The poll included more than 800 likely voters with more than 70 disapproving of the mayors performance overall, the poll also showed that voters are disappointed in how the mayor has been handling public safety, homelessness, Drug Overdose and housing affordability. When the question of who residents are leaning towards for mayor. Well, former interim mayor mark farrell got the highest percentage of all the candidates. The San Francisco Unified School District is getting a new payroll system and this is coming after employees in the district said that they were not receiving the right paychecks for about 2 years. The frontline educations california enterprise resource system was made for california k through 12 education and it is the most used system in the state. So not the School District is going to bring a contract to the board of education later on this month for approval with a target date of starting this new system by july of 2025. The superintendent doctor matt wayne said in the statement this decision was made after thoughtful and careful consideration of what kind of system we need as the 3rd largest employer in San Francisco. Im confident that this change is in the best interest of our employees. Students at Mountain View high school are accusing their school of center ship journalism. Students filed a lawsuit yesterday after the schools principal removed a story about an alleged assault case against a teacher and then fired the schools journalism advisor. The story had been published by the student run newspaper called the oracle. The lawsuit is asking for the right to publish that story. And for the reinstatement of that adviser as well as the journalism class that that adviser created the district and the principal now have 30 days to respond to this lawsuit. In the south bay, the Santa Clara County register of voters is expecting about 45 to 55 of registered voters participate in the primary election next tuesday. The county says this is a lot lower than normal. Adding that is only got ballots mailed in from about 8 of voters so far. And there are reports of a shortage of voting machine machines and Voting Centers impacting areas where there are tight race is already taking place. And earlier today i spoke with san jose mayor matt mahan about the voting Coverage Plan for the tuesday election. I think the Important Message is that people have many options for voting by seeing our county registrar to be very clear about their Coverage Planning to make sure that we are serving all neighborhoods in our city, all communities and that everyone has equal access to opportunities to vote. So he did acknowledge that its Santa Clara County, thats in charge. But as far as being the mayor of san jose, he is aware that he needs to step in there and make sure everythings going smoothly. Weve also sent swift water rescue teams for some of the areas that might see downstream impacts was chris darden, a spokesperson with the California Office of Emergency Services doubling down encouraging californians to play it safe and stay home as this weekend is expected to bring even worse weather. Like we said, these are extremely dangerous conditions. Whiteout conditions, 10 plus feet of snow in some areas. These are not conditions that are passable by your average individual. So hunker down. Yosemite National Park is going to close at midnight tonight because of the winter storm. The park will remain closed at least through sunday at noon and possibly later. Visitors who are currently at the park were told to leave by noon today. The National Weather service is forecasting several feet of snow throughout the park with very high winds. You can hardly see anything the cameras covered with snow and then weve got snow on the ground. But i did see some white caps out there on the lake. They got that wind rolling. This is diamond peak where you can see know what it is. Sitting there enjoying the snow because its just too wild right now. Theres too much coming down too quickly. And you can see that with all of those darker blues. As i zoom in here, it really is just fast and furiously. All of this moisture thats brought us. Some rain today is rolling right into the sierra and you can see it right there. We dont see those colors that often. Thats very heavy snow thats coming down right now.
