Despite witnesses saying a 63 yearold yanfeng wu was pushed from behind. Police ruled the death an accident and closed the case. But now the investigation is being reopened. Police wont say what the new evidence is, but a similar incident occurred last week just 5 blocks away. Kron fours dan kerman has more. We think Asian American elders, like all americans deserve to be able to walk their neighborhoods with safety. That was not the case for 63 yearold yanfeng lou. She died in july of last year after witnesses told police she was pushed from behind causing her to fall on the sidewalk and hit her head at the intersection of 3rd burt in San Franciscos bayview neighborhood. But after interviewing a person of interest in reviewing video, police determined the death was an accident and close the case. But now new evidence has surfaced and theyve reopened the investigation. We were very alarmed to learn that the person of interest who apparently and ultimately killed a missing in july of last year. Last monday. Also allegedly attacked another elderly asian woman. A 71 yearold woman. Police will not confirm the person of interest in the attack. Is the same person who is arrested and charged last week for assaulting a 71 yearold asian woman in the 1000 block of gilman. Just 5 blocks from where last years incident occurred. But Charles Zhang with the Asian Justice Movement wants to know if theres a pattern of behavior here, targeting elderly asian women and he wants the video of that first attack released. There was a conclusion reached that that death was an accident. And so now here we are the next and the same person apparently attacked another elderly asian woman. And so i think its high time for the public to be able to judge for themselves. I think one way that we could do that is by viewing the video of that first attack. Police have refused to release the video on the grounds. It will jeopardize the investigation. Dan kerman kron, 4 news. But currently director and an has a crisis on our hands. Our right now is the most weve gotten over 15 years. The shelters intake is receiving at least 12 dogs a day, nearly 350 a month, according to dunn. A big reason for the increase is that dog owners cant afford to keep their pets. Its a problem at other animal shelters in the bay area as well as that animal care and control receives a lot of dogs that are surrendered from their owners because of economic hardships. Another big problem there is that animals are taken from their owners because of things like animal cruelty allegations, not adoptable, but taking up space at the shelter during pending litigation. Don says when shelters are full, the probability of dogs having to be euthanized, increases. Our reality with this situation is that we are contemplating euthanizing for space. I always want to be really clear what were talking about, that were talking about dogs that are adoptable. Were talking about great odds. Its not anything that we want to be doing. Thats why oakland Animal Services is extending their hours this week, wednesday through sunday, a spring into action. Push for adoption, especially on thursday when the shelter will stay open until midnight that we are hoping that people come out in a big we will have nots makers. They have quite a few in terms of that 107 big dogs one day last week was the most in the directors ever seen such you started . You know, its funny. During the pandemic, the shelters are almost empty because everybody wanted to have a pet at home. And now people are back at work in the a lot of them surrender their their pets, which is unfortunate. Yeah. Yeah. So if youre looking for a dog, nows a great time.
