Mateo county courtroom tuesday morning. Scott peterson appeared via video conference. Lawyers with the la Innocence Project. Attorneys from the Stanislaus CountyDistrict Attorneys Office and members of the Peterson Family were also in the room in 2004 peterson was convicted of murdering his wife laci and their unborn son. Connor in modesto, back in 2002 at the original trial, peterson was sentenced to death, but that was later changed to life in prison is currently serving out his sentence at mule creek state prison east of sacramento. Peterson has maintained his innocence since laceys disappearance earlier this year, the Innocence Project submitted multiple Court Filings requesting access to the large amount of evidence that was gathered during the original investigation in its Court Filings, the Innocence Project suggested that someone other than peterson may have been responsible for lacis death. They also took issue with how the original case was handled and say that intense Media Attention during the investigation may have influenced the case among the items theyre seeking to examine is any evidence related to a burned out van. It was found near the peterson home around the time of disappearance. They also want new dna testing done on blood found inside that van in court on tuesday, the judge scheduled 3 additional hearings to discuss the different aspects of the innocence, projects requests. Earlier today during kron 4 news at noon, i spoke with defense attorney Michael Cardoza who had previously worked on the Scott Peterson case. I asked him about this possible new dna evidence. Laci went missing. And on that day, theres a question of whether there was a taking place across the street. It the house of across the street and whether laci came upon the burglars and they took her in that and she left dna in that because of they find dna in that band of laceys. That circumstantial evidence thats going to essence help Scott Peterson being men sleigh. And the question is that burglary happened on the day that she went missing. Ortizs happened the day after. Cardoz also told me the fact that the Innocence Project even took on this case, quote, speaks volumes. Businesses in oakland say theyre getting ready not to pay their taxes if the city does not try and fix the level of crime shop owners that we spoke with say they just dont feel safe and they spoke to kron fours to justice. So far were being told a little over 200 businesses are joining in. Never been this bad. I mean, we dont need to be talking about that. That as if know Everybody Knows it is. Fed up with crime. Some local Business Owners are telling kron 4 theyre not paying unless there is change. Ali obvious area. Local Business Owner in oakland for the past. 35 years who owns multiple shops in the city says dozens of businesses are supporting an effort to go on strike from paying business taxes. Its the i mean, city just a its out of control as far as it gets, Business Owners are feeling they feel the pressure that they are not being protected. But the city of oakland and they paid so much taxes. I mean, theres taxes. I mean, uk will get even there count on the taxes that we pay per year. And plus, we losing all the insurance coverage. All this area who runs oakland, small Merchant Chamber of commerce tells kron 4 so far they have about 220 businesses who are behind this effort demanding change from officials and what they want to see a safer streets. Were paying. For services and were not even getting the bare minimum from the city. Eduard escobar with the coalition for Community Engagement says the city is not in tune with the real struggles of local businesses in oakland and how theyre being impacted by crime. Shop owners. Is there trying to decide whether they want to stay in business because every day is a a and basically like a roulette. They dont know from a business standpoint, of course, the business has dropped as far as the clientele coming into the shops. Theres also, you know, extreme extreme concern about their safety and is is making a profit worth putting your life in jeopardy. In a statement from oakland city, mayor sheng thao in response, she says, quote, promoting a safer and more prosperous city is my top priority in oakland is making progress since the summer of 2023. Oaklands Business Districts have experienced a reduction in most property crimes. Weve had more Police Officers in my first year as mayor than weve had the last 2. 5 years. Weve restored foot traffic and motorcycle traffic units conducted focused operations with specialized units and expand its safety. Ambassador programs. Now, so far, no businesses have withheld taxes. There was a very large oak tree that crashed into power lines and damaged cars and blocked roadways late last night in lafayette. Heres what the damages that was left behind there. Its quite the mask. Theyre still dedling with it. Now. And now kron fours. Politico is reporting pg e crews were trimming some of that trees limbs hours before it fell down. A lafayette homeowner says stopped by her home on springhill road monday afternoon to remove limbs from a large oak tree in the side yard. The homeowner says the limbs had grown too close to power lines. The utility was attempting to mitigate a hazard. But hours after the crew left, the full tree came down. The homeowner says there were no signs that the tree might be unhealthy or danger of snapping, especially when the weather was dry and cold. It was a still night. We were still up at 10 after 10 it was quiet. And then all the lights went out. Everything went out. And when the electricity goes out on the street, it is very dark. The tree fell onto cars, power lines and defense. But fortunately missed homes and people. Luckily it was during a really quiet time where, you know, there are so many people who walk on the sidewalk and theres a bus stop right there in the morning. So luckily, nobody was hurt. Xfinity spent hours in the morning restoring services to its customers. The homeowner says they are insured but hopes to work with pga need to determine why the tree fell and have all of the damage caused repaired. We have eucalyptus on our property. San francisco also overperformed a little bit. We expect about a quarter of an inch. So almost 4 tenths. You can see less than that in oakland and far less than that in san jose. Pretty pretty interesting system rolled through quickly. So we are going to see the skies start to clear. I know its hard to believe right now that it is going to be happening as we look at future cast here, you can see how any of that moisture spins away from us. And then tomorrow were going wake up to some pretty nice weather with the exception of the wind. Now, we just saw a story about, you know, tree limbs coming down. And while were a little breezy this afternoon, you notice that the wind is more of an onshore component, especially look over here towards oakland, a concord. You can see that a westerly wind meeting. Its coming from the westerly direction as we get into tomorrow afternoon, were going to see the wind changed direction and come from the north and that brings in offshore component. Another United Airlines issue this time it was a flight headed to San Francisco from sydney, australia. It had to turn back due to a Maintenance Issue. The boeing triple 7 returned 2 hours into the 14 hour flight on monday, making Emergency Landing back in sydney. Its not exactly clear what this Maintenance Issue was, but the flight did land safely united says passengers were given overnight accommodations and then rebooked onto a new flight. And this is the same boeing plane model that well fall off last thursday while taking off from sfo. Several cars were crushed by that falling. Well heres video of the takeoff. You can see here the moment that that wheel came off the flight was bound for japan. It had to be diverted to los angeles. Where did land safely . No one was hurt by that falling wheel and the incident is being investigated by the faa and the ntsb. There are some new concerns over Quality Control of boeing. The Governors Office has Just Announced that the chp has conducted a number of sting operations leading to 168 arrests and 360 stolen cars being recovered in the east bay.
