Missing. Good evening. Thanks for joining us for kron. 4 news at 5. Im ken wayne and im noelle bellow. A united spokesperson says this was not an Emergency Landing at medford airport this afternoon. But it is concerning that an external panel was nowhere to be found on forest and thorn live for us at sfo with more. Dan. Yeah, this as you mentioned, another issue for United Airlines in a recent string of issues that theyve been dealing with lately. And the common denominator being San Francisco international airport. We heard today from a medford airport spokesperson that the plane left sfo and then landed at their airport around one 45 this afternoon. As you mentioned, united said that this was not an Emergency Landing, but during the inspection of the plane, something that they usually do when a plane lands at the airport, something concerning was discovered. An external panel was missing. The medford airport spokesperson says the airport was forced to pause operations on the runway to make sure that there wasnt any damage on. They did not find any, but they also did not find where this panel we reached out to united who confirmed the damage, the boeing 7. 37. They say that there was no indication of the damage during the flight which had more than 130 passengers on board. No injuries to report either. They also say theyre going to be doing an investigation to find out what happened. And they tell us that theyre going to be examining the plane and making repairs before putting this plane back in service. We also learned from the faa that theyre also going to be looking into this case as well as weve been reporting over the last week and a half united has been facing issues again, the common denominator being sfo just yesterday, a plane landed here at sfo with a hydraulic leak that caused some smoke to come from the landing gear. Earlier this week, a plane that was heading to sfo from australia had to turn around because they were dealing with mechanical issues. And of course, that video that went all around the globe of that plane that was leaving sfo heading to japan and the tire or wheel and a falling off and causing some damage in that plane had to divert to las angeles. So theres been a number of issues with these planes. Recently. We caught up with some passengers have out here at the airport that say theyre going to be taking united flight tonight. They say that they arent really thinking about the safety issues, but it is concerning that keeps popping up again united and all of these cases says that they maintain that safety is their top priority. Were going to be staying on top of it. And as we learn more information about whats going on here, well bring it to in a while. Back to you. All right. Thank you for that to dan. We will, of course, be getting more information as the night goes on. Meantime, a seat belt saved the life of a passenger. On that Alaska Airlines boeing 7. 37. Max involved to with shad that frightening midair door panel blowout. Thats according to a new law. So a lawsuit filed on behalf of 7 passengers, including kong tran who took this video. He says his body was lifted out of the seat. Suction literally tore off his shoes and socks and his leg was injured in the incident happened january over portland. The plane did land safely, but several people were hurt. The department of justice has opened a criminal investigation into that case. All signatures collected in an attempt to recall Alameda County District Attorney pamela price will now have to be counted by hand. The county registrar voters making that decision after of you of a random sample of signatures that were turned in last week. Kron fours dan kerman joining us live now with more on what this means. Stand. Well, basically, this means we will not know if were going to have a recall election are not probably not until next month. In the meantime, those who want to keep price in office are questioning whether the registrar even is allowed to have extra time to count. It may not be until next month before we know if opponents of Alameda County District Attorney pamela price have enough signatures to force a recall election more than 123,000 signatures were turned in and the Alameda County registrar of voters says after using the random sampling method authorized by state law. The results are not sufficient to determine whether the signature threshold has been met. That threshold is 73,195 signatures. As a result, the registrar will now begin a manual count of the verified signatures. The folks that are driving this fails their first big test. William fitzgerald, this with the campaign to keep price in office. They spent millions of dollars trying to get those signatures and yesterday make their tools that. But now theres an open question whether that signatures it has a little legitimacy to the signatures. But Brenda Grisham with the campaign to recall price doesnt see the hand count as a negative. Even better. So theres. No question that we have what we need, that the people signed. The petition is the petitions legal, the signatures legal. So thats a plus for us. But supporters of price are also raising questions about the registrar of voters decision to take additional time. To do a hand count. And if you look on the chart of the current rules, theres no section in it that says that if it doesnt, if you can count after 10, 10 days get that extra 30 days that that doesnt exist in our meeting. Fitzgerald says the campaign to keep price in office is now talking to lawyers to see if this extra time his legal. But they say that doesnt mean they wont accept the results. Were going to abide by the decision of the county. Were going to trust them. What were trying to impress upon folks because the question has been asked, is that there are legal questions over whats happening right now. Now we reached the reached out to the Alameda County registrar of voters for some clarification on this extra time. And if it is allowed, they did not return our call live in the newsroom.
