Now we do know that it was the person in the gray bmw who died from the from the fatality from the collision of the 2 cars between the suspects car as well as the gray bmw. The person in the van, a solo occupant, that person also major injuries, not to mention the 2 suspects. We are hearing major injuries as far as when this will clear up. We dont know just yet. Still being treated at the hospital following a tragic accident in San Franciscos west portal, investigators ended up arresting and charging the driver in that accident. 78 yearold mary fong allow for that crash. There was a vigil held last night for the family members who died. Kron 4 Sarah Stinson has the story. Hundreds of people attended this vigil. People continue to visit this growing memorial. Sala musicfilled San Franciscos west portal neighborhood monday night as hundreds of people stood together in both grief and solidarity. People placed flowers, stuffed animals and candles at a bus stop on new lewis street. Thats where a family of 4 was struck by a car on saturday waiting for the to take their kids to the zoo, which is what this family was doing. A mom, dad and child were killed. Their baby survived the supervisor for this district. Myrna melgar says the baby is now at the childrens hospital. Trauma center at child now has no parents sibling. So it is really difficult. And i am thinking about them. After a moment of silence, police chief bill scott lay down flowers for the family. Feeling lost. Cac says she witnessed the crash is still trying to process it all, but she says being at the vigil helps to other people that specifically new these individuals, friends, family, coworkers, people who worked with them is helpful for me. Its a system that requires private Alarm Companies to verify that a crime is actually happening before the police are actually dispatched to that location. And its done so by video, audio or other means of confirmation, this new ordinance thats been set and is supposed to be finalized later tonight requires that all new alarm installs be verified response. Alarm systems. And it requires that all existing alarm users with non verified systems convert to a verified system. Once they have 2 or more false alarms, those backing the change say that Oakland Police reported 98 of its alarm responses were false alarms in the year 2021. To 2022. Which resulted in the agency being less available to respond to actual burglaries and emergency calls the California Alarm Association says this change punishes people that have invested in protecting themselves and property, adding that this style of policing have been tried in other areas, but were actually repealed by cities throughout the country. But oakland Officials Say the change did work in cities like las vegas. The charges stem from an allegation that she traded concealed weapon permits in exchange for donations to her Reelection Campaign on smiths appeal, she argued that because she retired prior to being found guilty of 6 corruption and willful misconduct charges that year that the removal proceedings that disqualified her from jury service and her job were no longer necessary. But the appellate judges disagreed. They upheld the original decision. Smith declined to comment for the story. Unfortunotely, the person in the 3rd car, a gray bmw, that persons injuries so that person died from the collision on the freeway. And on a personal note, i miss this accident by about 10 minutes i was actually heading toward San Francisco on the 5. 80, connector right around 4. 45. This morning when i saw the backup, i thought it was a simple accident that could be towed away. I had no idea. It was a wrongway driver. We were just talking about it. It easily could have been had i been there just a few minutes earlier. Right now. We dont know. They usually bring people into San Francisco from oakland, ac transit. That has been stalled as well. If you are able to maneuver around those delays, 18 minute ride once you hit the mays to that fremont street exit other bridges, a lot of people born in the bay bridge altogether. You see traffic is a busy and building cause of that crash and a lot of people are taking. Other alternates are avoiding the east bay and altogether.
