Cases in Alameda County are now limbo because of potential misconduct. Legal experts are now weighing in. The Alameda CountyDistrict Attorney has revealed that a federal judge has issued an exhaustive review of 35 Death Penalty cases that go back several decades. Kron fours terisa stasio. Joining us now live for news or with more on whats happening here and what theyre hoping to fix really just in the review comes as the Alameda County da says that her office found the scribble notes which may show prosecutors strategize to block black and jewish chores. From serving on these Death Penalty cases. Now, legal experts say that these are profound allegations was sweeping consequences. Its a very disturbing development. This is probably just the tip of the iceberg on wednesday. Legal experts weighing in on the bombshell dropped by Alameda CountyDistrict Attorney pamela price that a federal judge has ordered the review of 35 Death Penalty cases after these scribbled notes were discovered while examining and appeal for this man, earnest, a 51 yearold was convicted and put on death row for the 1995 killing of 9 yearold lance clark and attempted murder of his grandmother. Price says that the notes suggest prosecutors may have blocked female black and jewish potential jurors from serving on trials. From is a criminal law professor at uc law. San francisco. Maybe what happened here is that these people were deemed to be opposed to the Death Penalty. And thats how they got away with removing people based on that the city because it just so happens. The people of certain demographics tend to be more opposed to the Death Penalty than others. So that was my other shot. And what could happen next is not only could these death verdicts be set aside. But the entire case could be set aside. And some of these individuals may be given a new trial in its entirety. Stephen clark is a former santa clara prosecutor and now defense attorney and legal analyst. Both legal experts say that the review of 35 current Death Penalty cases in Alameda County will be very arduous. Just have to look at transcripts. Theyre going to have to somehow look underneath the transcripts because what the script to the transcripts, mike show they usually. You know, sensible reasons. And what youre actually going to have to do is kind of like reconstruct everything that happened, kind of like what questions did you ask . How did you craft been . Now . Its been documented both by the legislature and the courts that anyone who dismisses jurors house to have a legitimate reason for doing so. Theres a lot of lot of to give him the lawyers to dismiss church. But race and religious beliefs is not one of them. In fact, both point out that in the past couple of years, there has been several cases that have radically changed out. Jurors can and cannot be eliminated. Im going to take a closer look at that. The paps original sentencing hearing was scheduled for this morning, but it has now been pushed back to monday. The 43 yearold faces a maximum of 50 years in prison for attacking Nancy Pelosis husband in october of 2022. Body camera video captured a pair of hitting paul in the head with a hammer and he was convicted last november in federal court of assault and immediate Family Member of a federal official and attempted kidnapping. Pap faces additional criminal charges in San Franciscos county court. The San FranciscoSheriffs Association says there is a deputy shortage and is now calling on the city for help. They sent a letter to city leaders and the Sheriffs Office asking for nearly 300 more deputies to be hired. The Sheriffs Association says deputies are being asked to work. 28 hours of overtime each week, which is 3 times past the set limit by osha due to the Staffing Shortage in a letter written to San Francisco, mayor london breed. The association explained findings of their own study in which the union says with an average of only 5. 2 5 hours of sleep per 24 hour period. Deputies are facing Serious Health risks to their safety. The survey also found high rates of physical mental problems among deputies, including high blood pressure, sleep apnea, depressive symptoms, and anxiety. We did reach out to the Mayors Office for a response to the Sheriffs Association request. We are waiting to hear back when we do. Well let you know. Well, good afternoon. You know, the city of San Francisco has a goal of answering all 911. Calls, actually 95 of 911. Calls within 15 seconds. But the been falling short of that goal over the last year or so. Today they unveiled major upgrades to their 911 center in a new effort to recruit dispatchers in an effort to get those numbers back where they want them to be. Wednesday, San Francisco unveiled its new 911. Dispatch center. The new facility features 55 brandnew work stations and updated break from an elevated supervisor area and a new training room, new facilities on the second floor of the old 911, center along turk street. The city says that the center includes extra space to offer growth and upgrades to equipment in the years to come. And it prepares us for the future by increasing our capacity and our ability to add more dispatchers and create the kind of environment thats going to be a better environment for the people who are answering the most challenging calls in San Francisco. The city is also ramping up efforts to recruit new 911, dispatchers. And theyre hoping that the new facility with its improved employee amenities will attract applicants. In addition, weve taken a lot of measures this year to make the process to become a dispatcher and the process of going through the hiring a lot easier and shorter. And so we are hopeful that people will look at the job. Consider this Public Service job that you can really build a life and and be a part of this Beautiful Community of San Francisco based pay for a new dispatcher is 106,000 per year. After a fire started at an Apartment Building in oakland, oakland, fire racing to 60th street and Martin Luther king junior way when those flames erupted on the first floor of a fourunit Apartment Building. The battalion chief james brown says crews were able to put out the flames before that fire spread. 2 other apartments. Big quake first energy out. Lots of smoke, small amount of fire went rather quickly. Extension any of the other apartments. People living in the other 3 units will be temporarily displaced until power is restored. The kron, 4 legal analyst paula canny says that is unlikely. While its true that journalists, you know, are really good at getting information as well. Id like to think that the police did a thorough investigation. So, no, i dont anticipate any big surprises. Earlier this month, alexiss father gwyn gabe telling kron 4 he believes the suspect who was killed during a shootout with police months after the killing. Tried to cover up the crime with help from his mother. Based on what we saw. There was definitely evidence showing. Aiding and abetting in january 2022. Alexis, gabe was reported missing out of oakley. Months later, investigators found her partial remains near sacramento. The games suspect, the mans mother was involved in the aftermath. But to this day, she has not been charged in response to a kron for news inquiry. The contra costa County DistrictAttorneys Office says, quote, based on the evidence that we have been provided by the investigating agencies. There is no indication that anyone other than Marshall Jones was directly involved in the murder of alexis gabe, either as a direct perpetrator or an 8 or and a better phrase aiding and abetting. Is a special term of art. But in the law, aiding and abetting means you are helping thetperson pommit the crime. So to have the mother be charged alien. Aiding and person. The prosecution would have to have back showing that the mother help the kill. The victim. And there are no facts like that. Theres no evidence to show that the mother knew in advance what he had done. That is not aiding and abetting. Its going to be difficult to watch. But we need everyone to witness what we witness. We need everyone to implore if were wrong about what we saw either way, the games intend to have their attorney present their case to prosecutors to have charges filed against the mother after the documentary airs. According to the report over the last 2 years, the most common type of disturbance reported was people crowding around an animal and not giving it enough space. Researchers say that this could lead to increased stress levels separating moms from their pops and disrupting rescue operations. But specifically talking about the bay area. San Francisco Police say early sunday morning around 03 00am they found a man that was unconscious and lying on the ground with no identification. He would soon be identified as his sous mizzou deo. He had been hit by a vehicle while riding an electric scooter with the driver and vehicle fleeing the scene. He was rushed to a nearby hospital and has been listed under Critical Condition ever since. Where is he headed . The Sonoma CountySheriffs Office has now identified the victim of a cold case that dates back to the 1980s in 22,001, a human skull was turned into the Sheriffs Department office in santa rosa. And investigators determined the skull was likely the victim of a homicide in 2022. Police then submitted the skull too. The dna doe project which confirmed the identity Jeffrey Thomas rubens family had not heard from him since 1980, police say at some point he visited california and was rumored to have become a house painter.
