Rae nato to and lets get to our top story only on kron. A man is in jail after and getting into a fight. With a Police Officer who was protecting the mayor of san jose. And this all happened right in the middle of a kron. 4 interview. We have dan kerman now reporting on what happened. Its this attack thats led to the arrest of 35 yearold leslie pollard, san jose. Police say pollard has been booked for battering a Police Officer and resisting arrest with violence. The incident was caught by kron 4 cameras during a tuesday evening interview with san jose mayor matt mahan at first in san fernando as steps right next to the mayor. Both he and the plainclothes san jose Police Officer providing security for the mayor inform pollard. That interview is under way do it. Moving talking for mark. Pollard uses profanity and tells the officer to mind his own business. What happens next is off camera. Its unclear who touches who first. But pollard is heard saying hall smack you right right now. 9 seconds later, he does just that hitting the officer in the face and head at least twice at that point. A scuffle in season. Police are called witnesses say at some point pollard begins yanking on the officers tie after 2 more minutes and police nowhere in sight. A customer from a nearby business comes to the offices. Rescue removing pollards hands from the officers tie and allowing the officer to handcuff him. Police eventually arrived and took pollard into custody. One person who witnessed the confrontation but didnt want to go on camera says hes not even sure that the suspect knew the mayor was even involved in all of this and was definitely clear that the person did not know that the security person protecting the mayor was actually a san jose Police Officer. While kron 4 has posted edited version of the video online sent as a police point out in a statement, the video does not contain the entire incident in particular. It does not include the officer identifying himself, nor does it include the many attempts teammate to deescalate the situation and avoid using force or taking any enforcement action. Police confirm pollard has an outstanding arrest warrant out of georgia for resisting arrest with violence. The officer hospitalized overnight with head and neck pain. But its now been released. The case is now under review by the Santa Clara County district Attorneys Office. Dan kerman kron. 4 news. 804, is the time and happening today. Classes are back to normal at San Jose City college after police say they found nothing suspicious on campus. This all came about because of a reported bomb threat shortly after 5 oclock last night. This is video of police blocking off more park avenue at bascom again at the time. Officers cancel classes. They evacuated. The school, took them about 3 hours to search the area. And the update is they found nothing so classes are back to normal. Its 805, and a bill is making its way through the state legislature right now and it would double the fines for protesters who block highways and freeways is gaining a lot of bipartisan support at the state capitol, but not across the state. Kron fours. Sara stinson explains. This bill is proposing to increase fines for protestersn every time theyre convicted of blocking traffic on highways. The hope is to deter them from doing it again. But civil rights advocates tell tougher penalties will not stop people from speaking out amid a series of protests related to the israelhamas war assemblywoman kate sanchez has introduced legislation that would crack down on any demonstrations blocking traffic on highways in california. One life sanchez says she became frustrated after 78 protesters arrested for blocking the bay bridge in november. Were only ordered to 5 hours of Community Service and 57 fines under current state law. Protesters can be fined anywhere between 100 to 500. Sanchez wants to double those fines up to 1000 depending on past convictions because weve seen of these laws on the books are are not enough right there tie the chart. Whats happening now . We believe in doubling that would give them our tools in their tool box. This bill passed a Transportation Committee hearing by both democrats and republicans. The california Highway Patrol association also in favor saying these protests prevent First Responders from doing their job. This is dangerous. Something needs to change. Harvey weinstein twentytwenty rape conviction and it ordered now a new trial in that landmark. Me too case. The court found the judge prejudice harvey with improper rulings like letting women testify about allegations that werent part of the case. Weinstein has been serving a 23 year sentence in new york following his conviction on charges of forcibly performing a act in 2006 and then rape in 2013, he will remain in prison, however, because he was also convicted in los angeles in 2022 of another rape and was sentenced to 16 years for that. He says sometimes airlines would do this. You are delayed and there was no guidelines, no set time of 3 or 6 hours. So you would go to the counter and buy another ticket and then you go back to the airline to go. I want my money. And then the airline says we never cancel your flight. That was your decision. Now, there are hard guidelines, 3, 6, hours and you will get your money back. You dont have to wait on line for ever talking to somebody hoping to talk to somebody for a refund.
