They have other cooling centers that will be open including the wave. At the wave they told us they will have two Public Schools public pools open for free and open until 8 pm, and that is making up for not being open on the fridays and with how hot it is on the weekends. Certain libraries and cooling stations may not be open on monday since it is a holiday so you may want to check the websites to make sure you have a place to cool off. Thank you. And we have not seen forecasted temperatures like this. We have the five date coming up later with levels that could potentially reach forecasting records that have not been reached since the mid90s. Beginning friday and extending to the Holiday Weekend we have a heat warning for the day and inland locations, and i have never typed 114 for portions of the bay area. Some spots could potentially get hotter. Along the bay close to 100. The coastal area shaded in yellow reflecting 80s. The camera looking out toward San Francisco and you will notice that hazy air with the airquality taking a hit with the sparetheair alert in place. A lot of that smoke coming in from the north. Lets check in on the current fog patterns, beginning to clear out near areas of the shoreline. Livermores the hotspot at 91, san jose 80, San Francisco 76. Today is the day of change which will set the stage for this major heat event coming our way friday and over the weekend. We are moving out of Hurricane Harvey in the biggest concern is the Chemical Plant outside of houston, two explosions sent 15 deputies to the hospital with eye irritation. They are warning that more explosions could follow due to the chemicals the grading and burning with lack of refrigeration. Reporter the water levels are going down but not by much. The county had Something Else to deal with overnight which was fire at the Chemical Plant. Flames and smoke from the Chemical Plant northeast of houston with the power failure leading to the overheated peroxide. Reporter fema is deploying more resources as the response ramps up and providing 57 million to the 325,000 register victims with the numbers expected decline. They are working on getting more shortterm shelters open. We understand that the shelters are not the ideal situation, and we understand we are throwing more things at them, neighbors helping neighbors. Reporter many neighbors still refusing to leave their homes and many are bowing to refill vowing to rebuild and hoping that fema will follow through. I applied for the grant and hopefully we will get chosen this time. Reporter the challenge for the rescue crews heading into the waters is convincing the homeowners to leave and seek shelter elsewhere. Of the seder, ktvu fox 2 news. Vice president mike pence is tearing the damage right now, and the Vice President and his wife are speaking with storm victims and the first responders, and surveying the damage that harvey has caused in the houston area and promising to help texas to rebuild. President trump sent us here to say we are with you. The American People are with you. We are here today, and we will be here tomorrow, and we will be here every day until this city and this state, and this region, rebuilding bigger and better than ever before. [ applause ] the Vice President was greeted by the Texas Governor who will also tour the coastal town of brockport, hit hard by Hurricane Harvey. Today we are meeting up with the bay area crews as they do their work as part of the major operation of the boat and rescue teams and ken is live from the city of wharton. Reporter there is a four second delay so you may see that happening as we talk back and forth. You can see the members of the task force 4 from the east bay with 75 members from the bay area that are here. They have just loaded another boat into the back of this light mobile tactical vehicle, the National Guard vehicle out of austin. These boats will be loaded onto the vehicles that can travel into the water that is about three and half feet deep. The regular suvs cannot get through that water because it is too deep so they get into these big military trucks and they can head down the highway going on this side of the town. Helicopters have been landing on this highway to get refueled, and they are getting those birds back up in the air. These military trucks with the boats will head down to the highway and wharton is south of us 5 to 6 miles. We understand that half of the town is dry with the other half underwater. A lot of people have made their ways out of the flooded areas and huddling in the drier areas waiting to be rescued. Many of these folks were there when the floodwaters hit and they decided to stay because they thought they could ride it out. That is a familiar story in houston, area but the water levels continues to rise which is what is happening with the Colorado River running through the heart of wharton. A lot of the residents said it was time to go as the waters continue to rise, and the boats have to get them out. For couple of hours we were sitting here waiting to find out where we were going, and the team members are standing by. They know now they are getting ready to go, and after everything gets loaded they will head into wharton. We are hoping we can go with them but we dont know that we can do that yet. If we cannot get on a truck we will be left behind. We will not be able to see what the east bay firefighters are doing with these rescues, but hopefully they will let us on the truck but we will have to wait and see. Stay tuned, as they say. You have been bringing us incredible stories all week. Does the city of wharton have Water Service and electricity . These people that have been in their homes for several days, do they have that . Reporter i dont have direct reports on the electricity. Ive not heard that theyve had any problems with the water supply. We have heard that there is a cvs drugstore that could be the high point and people have been gathering at the drugstore. In some cases if you have the right vehicle you could drive there but even though we are only five miles away, the cvs drugstore would take us two hours to get there due to the flooded roads. We would have to go way around in order to get there. These boats can get there much faster than the ground vehicles. Reporter you said normally it is a one hour drive. Today it took twice that long. We are not even at wharton so it took us twice as long to get here, and as i said, wharton is five miles away. There getting ready to load another boat. I think the folks from the task force 4 will have at least six boats in the water when they reach their location. They have chainsaws, medical personnel, dogs for search and rescue. This is a lot of different people with different skills that will be out there helping. It is a logistical feet to get everybody there as a team to go do these specific missions, but the main goal is to reach those people that cannot get out, to get them to safety, and then other people can step in to do other jobs. A lot of these people were at hurricane katrina, 9 11, and even before that somewhere at the Oklahoma City bombing. One gentleman was at the earthquake back in 1989 before these teams were officially recognized as these types of teams. We have a lot of experience here. The folks they reach will be in good hands once they get to them. It will be a long day ahead because it is hot, humid and muggy. I know it is hot in the bay area but they dont have the humidity that is here in texas today, along, hot and sweaty day for these folks. They are excited to go out to do the good work to help these folks out. We will let you lose so you can go tag along, and we look for your report later on ktvu fox 2 news.
