If you drive from tracy or you are driving in lets say from even further than that and use the tracy triangle you need an extra 20 minutes just to stay on schedule. Hearing this you may want to even leave the house a half hour earlier. Seconds ago as south was talking officials in florida announced irma has been downgraded from hurricane to a Tropical Storm moving towards the western florida peninsula. Made landfall yesterday as a category 4 hurricane with 130 mileperhour wind. State officials announced four and half million homes and businesses are without power this morning. Some sits and half Million People were ordered to evacuate. More than 160,000 of them are in shelters. Floridas governor has activated all 7000 members of the Florida National guard to help with the recovery. We are in washington dc with more on femas response. Reporter fema is going to be a busy place. A single hurricane will tax resources there, but the combination of both harvey and irma will be tough to match. Irma may have weakened but it remains a powerful force that could still devastate major population centers. The earliest pictures from hard hit areas show structural damage and flooding. Vice president mike pence visiting fema headquarters where resources are being put to the test. The agencys director telling fox news that the relief effort will extend well beyond florida. We are going to be back doing a special emergency appropriations in the middle of october. And the cost of both storms combined are likely to be in the hundreds of billions of dollars. It will cost a lot of money. Right now we are worried about lives. That the president obviously owns property in florida. He has already issued a disaster declaration for the state and he plans on visiting to see the damage to close. Today is a day for assessing the damage from irma and beginning of cleanup in some parts of florida. No commercial flights are scheduled to fly in and out of florida largest airport today. Officials in miami will be cleaning up debris, checking runways and terminals for damage. Miami airport suffered significant water damage. It is not clear when the airport will reopen to passengers. That is a problem particularly for american airlines. It is based in miami. Emergency workers and Airline Staff will be flying into miami to help airports get ready for a return to normal flight operations. Similar situation in most other florida airports. Orlando International Flights have ceased. It encourages passengers to check their website for future traveling. Police have been cracking down on unregulated street food vendors but say this vendor was the only one to get a ticket on saturday. Students at cal have mixed feelings about what happened. This is visible evidence of a Police Officer taking this mans hardearned money. It infuriates me. I think police get a lot of hatred at berkeley.
