Now the clock is ticking to find and save people who may still be alive, trapped in the rubble of collapsed buildings. Survivors have been pulled out of the wreckage so far. That is giving rescue workers renewed hope. Some of the most striking images we have seen is when rescue crews put their fists up in the air. Signaling to the crowd that they have found signs of life in the complete silence. There is a hush over the crowd when rescuers do that. One of the most intense rescue efforts was at the site of this Elementary School that collapsed in the southern part of the city. Three people may be alive, trapped inside. You see them raising their fists in the air, knowing they have found signs of life. We are reporting that a teenage girl who was seen wiggling her fingers to the rescue crews, she was she let rescuers know she was still alive. You see crews trying to pass her a bottle of water. More than 40 buildings in mexico city collapsed during the quake. Hundreds others severely damaged. Thousands of people are living in shelters right now. In the wake of the tragedy, there has been a wake of civic pride as everyday citizens work along the rescue crews creating Assembly Lines to pass water and food to rescuers. Inside the rubble, there are rescuers underneath the piles of mangled metal and concrete right now. So this is a life or death situation. Not only for the man who is trapped inside, but also for the rescuers. Now, you are looking live at all of the volunteers walking there has been a huge response coming. And youve got were looking around. There is an ambulance off to the left, waiting on stand by, hoping to be able to transporter i can alive and well to the hospital. Everyone of course praying for this. His family is here. Okay. They have released it. We can speak a little longer. They are continuing to work on the pile. It hasnt been 48 hours since the earthquake. The cutoff is 72 hours. Thats how long they believe someone could survive being buried alive. You can imagine, this is very tense, very emotional and dangerous. Hard to watch knowing that there is somebody buried alive under there. Everyone is praying that he is still alive. Okay. Theyre asking for silence again. In mexico, because there are so many rescuers from other countries, including california, china, switzerland, japan that they use the international symbol.
