That is when so many of the neighbors were forced to evacuate, we are now back at the home and we talked with him a few time ago. We lost three outbuildings behind our house. The firefighters were right here and they managed to save the house. Thanks to them. My neighbor lost his place, his home is gone. Another neighbor on the other side, same thing. In fires they are indiscriminate. It has a mind of its own. I want this place, i want this place, i will leave that one. Its weird how it works. Reporter fire crews are stationed by many of the homes along adobe canyon road to protect them if the fire begins to move closer. The nuns fire is 50 contained. Its very active on several different fronts including here in Sonoma Valley and also on the east side of things in napa valley. Crews are hoping to get more containment on this fire. It all depends on the weather. With that being said, i want to bring in jay smith with california fired joining us live. We know the winds are light. That certainly works in your favor, but it still shaping up to be a pretty warm day in the Sonoma Valley and the humidity levels are very low. How much concern do you still have about the active parts of the spire . We definitely still have concerns, we have an increase in the temperatures, so the relative humidity will drop. The winds are low and thats great news for us. We can get her helicopters in. Also the visibility for the cruise is better. But there still is a great amount of danger out there. Reporter here in Sonoma Valley, all morning, the layer of smoke blanketing this valley has been extremely thick. You were telling me you have an aversion layer. That kept the smoke close to the ground. Is also prevented you from getting the helicopters and the aircraft up into the air to do drops on some of the leading edges of this fire. You think you can do that later today . Definitely. Once the aversion labor conversion layer list it will increase the visibility. And well be able to get the retardant drops. And helicopters can come in and use the bucket drops specifically on the hotspots. On terrain that is so rugged it is hard to get crews into. Reporter as many people in some areas began to return to their home, we know repopulation is happening, evacuees returning home, many parts of this fire especially the nuns fire still threatening homes . These communities along highway 12 and Sonoma Valley not out of the woods by a longshot. Again, fire crews are looking towards a pretty hot day in Sonoma Valley. Very critical firefight under the way. Hot today, rain possibly in the coming days. We are tracking all of this. Weather is playing a significant role with what is happening each passing day. The northeast when kicked up started the fires and it cleaned out the atmosphere. Was also the best air quality we had seen in days. Lets talk about what is going on today. The winds are generally light out there and we saw in the north bay, with alexs shot, visibility is an issue. Air quality is once again an issue. As we been talking about for days the northeast when that dries drive down relative humidity. Humidity at 15 . Santa rosa relative humidity about 29 . As we shift over to the east bay, the winds are here as well with relative humidity down to 12 . Mount diablo in the wind coming in for the northeast. As we get into the afternoon and evening hours, it could sweet a little bit it could switch a little bit. You could see light and variable. Napa from the west, oakland from the west and we get again into the afternoon starts will start to change once again. Heres a look at the air quality at the moment. Santa rosa is definitely above the unhealthy mark 153 the last time i checked. For most the north a its moderate to unhealthy. Meaning if you have respiratory issues, this should be considered. Also the east bay show, sure dealing with unhealthy air. Along the coast and into the Santa Clara Valley right now it is moderate. It could worsen as we go into the afternoon. But this is what is projected for the second part of the afternoon. Moderate for the coast in the bay. It will be unhealthy. The inner east bay as well say Santa Clara Valley. More unhealthy than it was yesterday. Again over the weekend many of us got a nice break in the air quality in the air quality was moderate. Afternoon highs were today 80s across the board. 80s for San Francisco, upper 80s for the east bayshore. 90 degrees for warmer locations. Heres a look at the extended forecast. We do begin the cooling trend tomorrow. And will continue through wednesday. Thursday into friday, thats when we are looking at the possibility of rain coming our way. It has scaled back a little bit but it does look like it will bring some rain to portions of north bay. And then drying it out for our bay area weekend. That rain would do us a whole lot of good. Help to bring down air pollution, help the firefighters. Very welcome sight. Thank you. Good news to bring in the firefight and Mendocino County.
