Definitely a traumatic injury. Rescue teams say a 40year old homeless man was on foot at Guadalupe Reservoir and slipped and fell sometime before midnight last night. They say he fell some 10 feet and broke his leg. If you look carefully you can see blood on his pant leg. That man had the wherewithal to use a light to try to flag down a passing vehicle. He did not have a mobile phone and was stranded on the far side of the reservoir. Firefighters estimate he was about 150 yards away from ricks road when he used hicks road when he used that light to gather the attention of a carload of students who were driving by. They were home for the holiday when they saw the man in need. Driving down hicks road and then we see a light flashing from over there and so we agreed to pull over and then we get out of the car and we hear a guy moaning like hes in pain and we yelled back and forth asking what happened. And i guess he fell down the hill somehow and broke his knee. Reporter firefighters again stressing just how fortunate that man was to have been spotted. The group of students there called 911 and stayed with him until he was rescued yelling back and forth across the reservoir trying to get a sense of how he was doing and then relaying that information to emergency responders. It took crews about 15 minutes to finally reach him and then about another hour to get him out of the rough terrain. That man was then transported to an area hospital for evaluation. No word on the extent of his injuries beyond that broken leg but we have heard that he was transported in stable condition. Fire Officials Say it was very lucky that he was spotted by those passing cars. Temperatures plunged overnight and as you can imagine, those firefighters are saying this could have been a very different story if he hadnt been able to signal to those students and if they hadnt spotted him and called 911 and then stayed with him to make sure that rescue was on the way.
