Few days. As temperatures go up, so too does the risk of wildfire with hot, dry conditions earlier on the floor we talked with Cal Fire Division chief and he says that the shift in weather and fire danger in california this week was swift. What we are seeing right now is a rapid dry out of what we call our light flashing fuel. The grass is out there, it is a catch22. We had a great year of rain which is awesome for our reservoirs and Water Supplies but on the flipside its also more dangerous for fires to the small starts we are getting are starting to get larger quicker. As you can see over the last week we see about 150 new fires per week across the state which is an rapid increase than where we were a month ago. He says it is key for People Living in fire prone areas to be prepared by creating Defensible Space around the house. And also having a go bag ready with everything you need in case you have to evacuate. It really is remarkable how fast things dry out. We were talking a moment ago right now it is still 106 in castro valley. 102 in walnut creek, 105 in fairfield. The thing i want to talk about were talking at the fire and the fuel, when you have these warm overnight lows like San Francisco in the 60s overnight, in the valleys in the 70s when they woke up. There is not a lot of temperature recovery and it stays hot all night and the humidity low you are almost certain to have fires the next day and that is almost a rule of thumb. We had that environment last night. So, the fact were getting some fires popping up today is not unusual at all. And not unexpected. Tomorrow, probably the same thing to a certain extent. Still waiting on some records, those coming in from the weather service. I do not want to put them up until we are sure but probably that of a couple of records today. If you look at the departure from yesterday, as hot as it was it was warmer today. The seabreeze was forecast start to kick in now, and it is not, it really isnt. Although it is in monterey. Monterey, santa cruz, temperatures drop 510 degrees so they have gone down as well. But our seabreeze kicking in until late tonight, early tomorrow morning. When that happens temperatures will drop pretty significantly. Which from 105 to 98, Something Like that. It will be much more bearable, especially in lent. Along the coast not much bearable because you will have fog tomorrow afternoon. High clouds overhead, the winds representing the winds trying to go on shore. It has been three in a row, San Francisco had two record brushes two days ago, a record that yesterday. Well see how it goes today. Our heat spell is causing big trouble for many sweltering neighborhoods suddenly confronted with power outages. Tom baker joins us now in the east bay where most of those outages have been occurring. Tom . Reporter we are currently in berkeley where 7300 people in the general area are out of power. That is a fairly large outage and they do not expect it to be resolved until about 7 00 this evening. Now, more outages are expected throughout the bay area while all this heat goes on. So pg e has activated all of its Emergency Response centers throughout the entire bay area. Pg e santa rosa materials and equipment yards, like all set bay area facilities, are ready with people, material, and equipment to respond to this afternoons outages. Yesterday was a doozy, most noticeably in the east bay. Yesterday reached 104 degrees in a lot of areas, that was the highest we have seen in a couple of years. Throughout the day about 10,000 customers were impacted, not all at once but throughout the day. That was due to heat related outages. Reporter transformers of all sizes can only carry so much load. And the problem, of course is whether there up on a pole or especially underground that they have to carry too much load or they simply get too hot, they will shut down. The transformers and other equipment just cannot cool down fast enough. Especially the underground equipment, they just cannot cool down. Reporter then add in mega demand on the system. We see load issues. The increase in demand, when the weather is hot people use their airconditioners, their fans more. Reporter now chance for the stepdad of the power from the highvoltage system to your house or business, to the level that it needs in order to make the equipment operate. Bottom line, when they fail they usually have to be replaced and that can take significant time because the crews has to climb a pole or worse enter a vault to change the transformer out. Will keep an eye on this to see him the adages there will be today but it seems like they maybe yesterday. We will see, reporting live ktvu fox 2 news. A tough time to be without power. Be sure to download the ktvu weather app so you can stay uptodate with the conditions in your neighborhood. The chp is investigating a deadly crash that shut down all westbound lanes of highway four. The crash was first reported on round two this afternoon between lagrange and summersville rosa. The corner was called to the scenes forcing the closure of all westbound lanes for more than two hours. The chp says they reopened all of those lanes about 4 30. No word yet on what caused the crash. A crash involving three big rigs active traffic on eastbound interstate 580 four hours today. The chp says the crash happened about 10 30 this morning in livermore near greenville road. Sky fox was overhead just before 1 00 this afternoon when two lanes were back open. They were also problems heading westbound with a three car crash that had happened in the same general area around noon blocking the two left lanes for a time. The warriors are now back home in the bay area. Sky fox flew over the scene as the teams charter jet touchdown just after 3 00 the warriors are now getting ready for the final game ever at oracle arena on thursday night. The championship hinges on whether or not they can win two more games without kevin durant. Our sports director here with more on all of this. It is right now a waiting game for the official mri. That is the one thing on the list of many topics regarding the warriors with regard to Kevin Durants achilles. It is widely assumed, if i. T. Is reporting, it is a ruptured achilles tendon which would keep him out theoretically all of next year no matter who he eventually will play for. But, the questions have been coming up. Should he even have been allowed to play . Well, take a look at this video that we secured with him warming up with his teammates. Tell me if this is a guy who looks hesitant about taking the court in a few minutes. That was right before the game. Everybody was in a good mood, spirits boosted because kevin durant, widely considered the greatest player in the nba, the world really, was back on the court. He immediately popped three threes and off and running with 11 quick points and the warriors early lead. Here it is, in the Second Quarter a little over nine minutes left, immediately you sensed this wasnt a minor injury. Look at the close appear, look at his calf muscle quiver and there it goes. Again, we do not have an mri to confirm it but it appears very likely this is a ruptured achilles tendon which will keep him out all of next year. Obviously the warriors won the game but the feeling of celebration was muted afterwards. Here is coach carter and a couple of the main supporting cast for kevin durant. On the one hand i am so proud of him, just the amazing heart and great that they showed and on the other hand, i am just devastated for kevin so it is a bizarre feeling that we all have right now. Is a warrior, you saw what he did tonight. We dearly miss him. I was very deflated to see him go out. Obviously i pray for the guy and i know he will be back even stronger. He gave us what we had, went out there and sacrifice his body. I feel so bad for him to be honest. Nobody should have to go through Something Like that. Here is some social media from kevins mom wanda. For all of you who question my son as a man, question his heart, question his integrity and love for the basketball. You dont know him. He has the heart of a true warrior. This too shall pass, god bless you all. From wanda durrant. So, obviously a lot of emotions in play. Bottom line is the warriors got all cleared medically, kevin durant took the floor, was off to a great start and the unfortunate incident, accident, injury, whatever you want to terminate, the players hardly felt like a victory last night. That was an interesting quote from his mom. I was reading a column is to set in their opinion he never shouldve been allowed to go out and she was saying for those who question him as a man. As columnists were saying if he hadnt played, they might have questioned whether he had the heart of a player who was really willing to go out and do it. For that reason he may have felt some pressure to go out and play even though he wasnt totally. This is the nasty side of the media. He is in a no win situation. I heard grumblings like why isnt he playing, it was just a calf injury. And the other side, while he shouldnt have played. They didnt get it cleared. Well, the bottom line is, the number one medical team in the league taking care of him. They got all kinds of clearance, and they were very cautious about this and in the end i believe it is Kevin Durants family, but ultimately his decision, as to whether or not he wants to play. Do you think they would push him out there if he didnt want to . Of course he wanted to. Just a true competitor. You heard him say that he sacrificed his health for us. So santa had to come down to two games left. I does have a real feeling that the way everybody in the Warriors Organization met this crisis, if you will. I feel like they bonded in some strange way. If i go out on a limb here, i think kevin durant is going to stay with the Golden State Warriors over the long haul, through his rehabilitation and i am kind of predicting that he will sign the longterm contract with them. I really feel like, in a weird way, a family was formed last night with this team, a bond. It will be incredible at oracle tomorrow, last game ever. No matter what win or lose. Of course they are hoping that they can force a game seven up in canada on fathers day. This would be the alltime story, the alltime comeback. They are certainly alive, they are more alive than they were this time yesterday. Thank you. Coming up at 5 30 we finally know when the Transit Center will reopen after being closed for months because of safety repairs. An earlymorning rescue along the north bay coast how multiple agencies jumped in to get a woman to safety who had just driven off the cliff. Another day of hot weather in the bay area has many people heading to the beaches for a little relief. Emergency crews want to remind everybody about how dangerous San Franciscos coastline can be. Christien kafton joins us now where a 14yearold boy drowned yesterday afternoon while enjoying a day at the beach with his friends. Reporter good afternoon. Every morning when we have nice weather like this firefighters passed out this pamphlet awarding visitors to San Francisco beaches about the sneaker waves and the stronger current and about the strong title flow here inside the bay and also warning people that there is no lifeguard on duty. Yet another day of hot temperatures have many looking for relief on San Francisco beaches, including chrissy field where a 14yearold drowned monday. Several cisco emergency workers reminding locals and visitors that San Franciscos beaches can be beautiful and deadly. And the combination of factors can be a recipe for disaster. Think about the extremely aggressive wave patterns that we have in San Francisco, the very strong rip currents we have, not only on the coastline but inside the bay as well. Reporter experienced rescuers know that the water conditions can make swimming and surfing here dangerous. In fact, crews here advise those looking to swim to look elsewhere. If youre going into the water we recommend you plan that trip and think about going to a lifeguard protected beach and the clovis will close this one in San Francisco is in marin county. Reporter but for many the lore of a cold break from the heat is too tempting to pass up. This gentleman came to the beach with his granddaughters from sweden and spent a lot time on the beaches there. He says safety has to be the number one priority. That means keeping a close eye on the kids and making sure they can float if they need to. As long as i go with them, they can be out. But if they are playing alone they can. Reporter and just make sure somebody is there. 70 must be with them. Reporter while we are talking about the dangers. Emergency workers warn of another danger when we see nice weather like this more people want to go out for hikes. Every year we wind up reporting a people who either get stuck on one of the cliff sides here in San Francisco or fall and injure themselves. Be very careful out there, choose your path carefully, always bring your mobile phone with you to call for help if you need it. We are life in San Francisco, Christien Kafton ktvu fox 2 news. As you can see, it was his shot there, just absolutely spectacular but boy was it hot today. It is faltering. We will see more records, the official numbers have not come in, but records again today that is about three days in a row we have seen near record temperatures in the bay area. Current temperatures are pretty impressive. 105 in concord. 102, 101 in redwood city. As of right now, the heat advisory is still in effect, heat advisory should get dropped as we get into the evening hours around the clock, it should go away, it does not look like it will come back for tomorrow so with the temperatures you see they are warmer than they were yesterday by three degrees in concord and fairfield. Four degrees warmer in oakland it just a hot. No red flag warnings but it is toasty hot. We are looking for the fog in an environment like this you look for a southerly surge of fog coming up the coast and that will happen most likely late tonight and early tomorrow morning, that is not fog there you are just seeing the higher cloud. The fog will form down south of big sur and work its way in. I already have reports in salinas of significant cooling as we see a seabreeze right in this area. That is the beginning of a southerly surge. The cooler air there means a cooler air moving onshore here. Most likely i would say by midnight tonight. We should see a pretty good win that shift. If you look at the winds blowing you see a few high clouds out there. It has just been really hot and the air quality has not been so great. You can see well, when you get heat like this you get ozone levels are high. Ozone is not something you see, the sun, the car exhaust, it produces exhaust. The ozone or the molecules react with the sun, photochemical reaction. That is what the air is today. So, air quality in terms of visual not too bad you can see across the bay. And just, i will tell you it is faltering. You see in several cisco downtown you are doing 90s, the streets are, they are down 105, 106 degrees by the concrete buildings. The model by tomorrow brings fog back to the coast from the north which makes a little sense given the Water Surface temperatures are so cool but i would expect most of the fog to come from the south by late tonight or early tomorrow morning. So we will watch that. Maybe at 10 00 will get a whiff of it. And a High Pressure is the story. Stick around for a while now. And has produced record highs the last couple of days. Looks like we will see more today. Next time you see me we will report on the highs but no tomorrow it should be cooler by a few degrees. See you back here.
