Coliseum near the oakland airport. Police say the shooting happened about 6 30 tonight. The freeway didnt reopen until 8 40 tonight. Thats what youre seeing here. Our Traffic Camera was rolling at the exact moment when the Highway Patrol allowed drivers to resume using all lanes of traffic. Developing news from ktvus jana katsuyama. She was on that closed stretch of freeway but has moved near the coliseum where the road reopened. Jenna, what have you learned . Reporter well, frank, what a difference it makes, this is moving freely. An hour and a half ago it was such a mess. A lot of frustrated drivers during the evening commute. I talked to the chp, and they say right now they searching for that driver that opened fire out here on the highway and shot at a car. Chp investigators surrounded the toyota rav4 suv stopped in the center lane of northbound 80 just past 98th avenue. A bullet hole was clearly visible in the front passenger door. Two men were in the suv when a man in his 30s or 40s in a darkcolored sedan pulled up and began shooting at the vehicle about 6 35 p. M. The driver of the toyota was wounded by gunfire and both the driver and passenger were transported to a local hospital where the driver is currently being treated for his injuries. Reporter the chp immediately shut down the highway, causing a long backup of traffic on northbound 880 in oakland during the evening commute. Cars had to merge from the fourlane highway to the twolane offramp, then back on to 880 on the other side of thef the victims suv was the specific target or whether other vehicles might have been hit. With many cars on the someone mt have seen the shooting or have information that can help catch the shooter. If they see something to please contact us because a lot of times thats what helps solve these cases is when members of the public come forward with even details they might think are insignificant. Those detail cans help ultimately solve the case. Reporter the chp says that the passenger of the suv was not injured but did accompany the driver to the hospital. And they say they are waiting right now for a status update from the hospital. At this point, though, it appear that is the driver will survive those injuries, frank . Jana katsuyama along i880 by you. Akland coliseum tonight. Now to a wildfire that started this afternoon and burned rugged terrain in rural napa county near Lake Berryessa. It drew abition response from cal fire. The cany out along highway 128 at the south end of Lake Berryessa. Tonight it is 60 contained with forward progress stopped. Ktvus Debora Villalon is live for us tonight at a highway roadblock thats still in effect, deb . Reporter julie, 128 connects napa and winters, but you cant get through the Berryessa Highlands right now. Fire crews are up there working. The fire was kept small, just 55 acres. For once cal fire caught a break. From sky fox, the canyon fire south of Lake Berryessa sending up smoke visible in the city of napa and raising concern across wine country. People need to realize that just because the fire starts, not every fire is going to be devastating like weve seen the last several years. Reporter the chief innty fig says for one thing, winds on this fire were relatively mild. And he had five air tankers and three helicopters to unleash on it. After pass, boxing the fire in, and stopping its forward progress just before 6 00. We had a lot of resources that were available because we didnt have large fires burning in other part of the state. I guess we cant expect all of them to get out of control like that, you know . Reporter the marina is at the other end of the roadblock. Most boaters were on the water when the fire started. In the market, many customers noted the row was air attack. They were on it before i knew there was a fire. So i saw the airplanes before i saw the smoke. So. Reporter that reassuring . Yeah, really good. Reporter nine households in the woods were told evacuate. The Carpenter Family brought what they could. 50,000 boat. I dont want it to burn. Thet think its going to get there, but better off to be safe than sorry i guess. Reporter they know berryessa has a history of stubborn fires. It doesnt surprise me. The brush gets so big and the grass. And once it starts its hard to put out. Its so steep. Reporter that was another break for firefighters. After a wet winter and so far mild summer the brush is retaining some moisture so fire doesnt spread as fast. But those conditions favorable now arent likely to last. If we get prolonged periods of extremely high heat, large scale winds, that could rapidly dry out the vegetation. We just had the fuel conditions and weather that have helped us be successful so far this year. Reporter this fire is under investigation and cal fire had a spot taped off along the highway. Apparently the area of origin. At its peak 15 engines and almost 200 personnel were on the canyon fire. Some crews are still in the line while its cool overnight. Now, cal fire has two other new fires going right now in kern and mariposa counties. Both are at about 200 acres, julie, both of them also almost out. And deb, right now any word on when that roadblock will be lifted . And also for the families who had to evacuate, any word as to when they can go back home . Reporter its expected that some time tomorrow morning things will go back to normal around here. Its likely some of those families did not evacuate. Theyre pretty rugged up here. Theyre experienced with fire. And they know once they leave, theyre not going to get back in until its over and under control and everythings been lifted. Likely some folks just sort of rode it out.
