It is not as widespread as yesterday, but still in place in the forecast today, live cam a toward sfo, we expect areas of fog at the coast and warm to hot inland with temperatures on the way from the 60s through the 90s later this afternoon. In addition to the typical fog, we have monsoonal clouds and showers from california going closer to the bay area with this radar showing some lightning strikes out to the east of modesto, close enough that it bears watching. For right now, low clouds and fog and higher clouds paying us a visit. San francisco, 56 in fremont, 60. Concord, 67 and the north bay reports 56. Partly cloudy with areas of fog and temperatures inland on track to reach the 90s. Yesterday, a spike in those numbers and San Francisco, right around 70 and concord, 93 later. We will talk about the extended heat in a few minutes and lets check in with sal with an update on the roadways. Right now, we have slow traffic and a lot of spots and we start off with interstate 80 driving from the carquinez bridge to the macarthur maze taking about one half hour, not bad and ed another 20 at the bay bridge toll plaza and 880 northbound is slow. Some problem southbound at woodside road with a crash making traffic a mass and hearing of this, you might want to stick to 101. Its usually slow but youd like it better than 280. That is a rare time where i would say 101 is better than 280. After that, its doing very well, getting into the cupertino and sunnyvale area with northbound 280 and 101 slow. Slow traffic in morgan hill after an earlier problem. Lets go back to the desk. Advocates say there is a state of emergency on San Francisco city streets and they will rally outside city hall one hour from now to demand city leaders make changes to Traffic Safety after two pedestrians were killed in less than a week. We have allie rasmus to explain. Reporter the groups walk sf and the bicycle coalition, as well, hosting this rally at 9 00 this morning on the steps of city hall. The executive director said there have been 21 traffic fatalities on San Francisco streets just this year including people in vehicles and also a number of cyclists and pedestrians per the latest crash happened this past sunday with new Surveillance Video showing the tragic chain of events at the intersection of Taylor Street and the victim was a husband and wife visiting San Francisco. A black tesla appeared to run a red light and it collided with the mini cooper before ricocheting into the crosswalk where the husbandandwife were standing. The wife appears to try to hold her husband back but its too late. 39yearold Benjamin Deen and his wife kelly were seriously injured in the driver has been identified as Kelsey Cambridge of vallejo and she faces charges of vehicular manslaughter and running a red light but was not booked into jail because they are misdemeanor charges. Its the second deadliest crash in the span of four days. On thursday, a 54yearold man was struck and killed in the tenderloin neighborhood as he walked across the street and the safety group said the city has a crisis on its hands. Expect the city needs to declare a state of emergency on our streets for Traffic Safety, meaning every recess possible will make this at the top of the agenda. They need to do things we havent seen for enforcement and we need bold action and we need Safety Cameras and we need to increase the number of red light cameras. What could the bold action look like . Advocates say city leaders should consider narrowing some streets and changing them to make the streets two lanes instead of three or four and they advocate to reduce the speed limits in some parts of the city including the tenderloin to 20 milesanhour and theyve also mentioned they would like San Francisco police to step up enforcement of bad driving behavior with stricter enforcement of things like speeding and running red lights pit the rally will be at 9 00 this morning here at the San Francisco city hall and we will be here. Oakland mayor libby schaaf joins us in the studio to talk about the thousands of immigrants deported from Oakland International and we will find out about a new report that shows a 47 jump in the Homeless Count in the city of oakland. He is one of the nations reporters and, accordingly, they say the Oakland Airport has been used to deport emigrants. We have mayor libby schaaf to talk about the trip and the immigrants being deported out of Oakland International and much more. Thanks for being here. The front page of the chronicle, 40 per seven rise in the Homeless Count in oakland. 2702 years ago. Not a good number. No, not a good number and not a surprise, though. Anyone on the streets of oakland is not going to be surprised by the number at all and its consistent with the increase, overall, for Alameda County. That came out last month with some interesting trends. A lot more Homeless People living in cars and rvs. You know that we opened our first safe rv parking site with four more sites in the works and, clearly, that was the right strategy to kick off. Youve implemented ideas and had the ideas with the community cabins, you now have five. Is it the plan not working or is it not being executed the way it should be . Part of my frustration is that typically, homelessness is dealt with by the county. We did have a very good first joint meeting yesterday of the board of supervisors with all the mayors of Alameda County and some cities have seen a quadruple increase in the Homeless Count. Everybody in this region and frankly come the whole west coast, is grappling with this as a pressing problem. Im pleased that since the numbers came out, we have added or are in the works of adding more than 700 new supported beds and whether they are cabin communities or the new successful rapid rehousing center or the safe rv parking, we at least are moving in oakland. We have hustled money from the state of california. The numbers show you are not moving. Those numbers are from january. These new beds, with the exception of two of the community cabins, all of the new beds actually went town line after that count was performed. The governor recently appointed you to be part of the statewide panel to address the homeless crisis across the state and what youve implemented in oakland, will you pass that to other cities as part of the panel or will you say no to these ideas . I say yes to these ideas and more but i definitely believe there is no onesizefitsall solution and weve shown that in oakland by the variety of interventions weve been putting up. What the governor has seen is that i have a ton of energy and am absolutely determined to not just take this problem out of public view, but to actually solve it and that means getting people into permanent Affordable Housing and we will travel over the state. It will be a very interesting process to see what homelessness looks like in the rural areas. Ive got to move on to a report from 20102018, ice chartered flights out of Oakland International, flying 43,000 detain people. Did you know that was going on . Absolutely not. I was not shocked by the homelessness report but this shocked me. How do you not know this is going on in your own backyard . Federal regulations limit the information that airports can get about who is flying and for what purpose. The reports show it was not commercial flights, they were chartered flights but i can tell you that the port is taking the report very seriously and i was actually in china with three port officials when we got news of this. They are ensuring that the port has not violated any of the oakland sanctuary city policies and frankly, they are exploring ways to strengthen their commitment to the oakland sanctuary city status. It is run by oakland and if the charters pick up, can we do anything . As the mayor . As you might imagine, airports are heavily regulated by the faa. Of course, the port will work within the confines of those federal regulations but they also were disturbed by the report and are looking at what they can do within the limits of the federal laws and regulations to really show their commitment to the oakland sanctuary status. The Chinatown Chamber of commerce was part of the trip. Tell me what you accomplished. We looked for ways to expand our export markets and we visited three different ports and we also reestablished our sister city relationship in the north of china and i signed Education Exchange mous with two different mayors. A lot of oakland and alameda counties have Chinese Americans coming from there. What happened as a result . We are looking to reinvigorate the association. Please contact my office if you are interested. We will look to send students that are studying the mandarin language to china and exchange homestays and cultural experiences and we are also looking for a direct flight to Oakland International from china. We dont have one yet and would like one. Of course, opportunities to expand tourism from china, a huge market with lots of interest from people who didnt know that much about oakland but were very excited to understand all that we had to offer for tourists and for business exchange. Thank you for joining us. Lets get that number down. I know you are working on it. Mayor libby schaaf, thank you. Sal castaneda has been monitoring traffic since 4 00 and it hasnt been that great . It hasnt been great but not the worst weve seen. The eastshore freeway has a backup on 80 westbound, 30 minutes to the bay bridge and another 20 or 25 before you get on 880, going to be slow. Peninsula southbound 280 is a mess after 92 to woodside and id recommend 101 or getting on the freeway after woodside. On the south bay commute, traffic is slow with an earlier accident 882 bascom and if you are going to the san jose airport, its a mess in that area. Here is mark tamayo. The peninsula is a mess. Southbound 280 is normally not this slow and theyve cleared the accident but its very slow and 101 is slow. People all want this traffic to not be as slow. Lets go back to the desk. New this morning, the Trump Administration expanded the authority of immigration officers for deportation. There fasttracking the deportation process and we have Cristina Rendon live outside ice headquarters in San Francisco. Reporter good morning. This is yet another controversial decision from the Trump Administration with officials saying its part of the effort to crack down on the, quote, ongoing crisis on the southern border. What happened today is that immigration officers are given Broad Authority to deport migrants without those people ever going before an immigration judge and acting Homeland Security director said the expedited removals will free up beds and detention facilities and reduce a backlog of more than 900,000 cases in immigration courts. These things can take years and they want to speed up the process. The change applies to any undocumented immigrants in the country less than two years and that previously only applied to people caught immediately after they crossed the u. S. Mexico border. The acting ice director spoke with reporters on the Conference Call and talked about the new policy. As the statute is written, if they are not able to prove that theyve been here more than two years, we have the ability to use the expedited removal process to remove them from the country. This morning, ice sent a tweet about recent numbers saying theyd made roughly 900 arrests nationwide and targeted almost 3000 employers or the worksite violations. There have been various operations going on and some in the past few weeks and months and others have been ongoing several years. The acting ice director said there are 1 million with final deportation orders or notices to leave the country and roughly half of them, more than half, are made up of fugitives. They are trying to look at the best ways to reduce that stress on what they said is a crisis on the southern border. We want to clarify that the acting ice director said they are not classifying these as race but they are targeting them with more action. Its against specific individuals in violation of the law with a warrant and its not a raid. A raid brings up all sorts of emotions that conjure images of indiscriminate actions and thats not what we do and Everybody Knows that isnt what we do. Reporter going back to these deportations, it will start today but the aclu is already getting ready to file suit against administration to stop this policy and critics say its a very dangerous change and one that is unlawful. Cristina rendon, ktvu fox2 e news. The department of justice gave former special counsel, Robert Mueller direction about his testimony tomorrow before the committees. President ial election. San mateo representative Jackie Speier will be among those questioning Robert Mueller come tomorrow. I think, by his testifying, we can shine a bright light on that report even if he does nothing more than read from that report. It will provide greater clarity to the american people.
