This is also a look at the east shore freeway, 26 minutes coming around the corner and to the bay bridge. It is a very typical delay. We dont have any problems on the span. 880 looks nice into downtown oakland. San mateo and dunbarton bridge, moderate. And on the Silicon Valley commute, we have had some slowing. Hopefully it will stay nice and light. 7 03. Lets go back to the desk. New this morning, one person was arrested after a chp had started on the peninsula and ended in the east bay. Started just before 4 00 a. M. The San Mateo Police tried to pull a car over. The chp took over the chase, once speeds hit 100 miles an hour, on northbound 880 spike strips finally stopped that car on 880 near marina boulevard, in san leandro. Thats where the driver was arrested. Still not clear why the police tried to pull over the car in the first place. The fbi says its still searching for a motive in the deadly shooting in gilroy. Agents continue to go through e mail, social media accounts and other locations to and from the 19yearold gunman. Santino leggens. Agents say so far, they are not linking him to any political or religious group. The fbi is denying they found white supremacist writings at the home he lived in, in nevada. And the shooting at the garlic festival, people may be able to get some personal items back. Ktvus Elissa Harris is live in gilroy. Where they are taking the belongings to the Gilroy Center where people can come get their belongings. Thats right. We are at rutger Elementary School. And this is where people can come starting at 9 00 a. M. To either retrieve belongings or at least put in a report of what they lost that day. Now, officials want to make sure that people know this is just for vendors and guests who were in the park side of the garlic festival on sunday. As opposed to the ranch side. I can tell you this morning, we have seen officials with the fbi. They are on site. There are sheriffs deputies as well. And the deputy district us th update. Arrived and gave the gates will not open til 9 00 a. M. They close at 10 00 p. M. That is the time frame for when people need to retrieve items or put in that report. Now, what we know this morning is that hundreds of vehicles, bags and other items were left behind during sundays shooting when people ran as fast as they could to escape gunfire. Yesterday, some of the first people were able to reclaim some of their personal belongings. It was a slow process for those who had to get their vehicles. First, they had to go through paperwork. Then rode in a shuttle. Then about five miles to a checkpoint. Then escorted into the crime scene. Were trying to shrink that footprint down as soon as we can, to get vendors that have reasons to be here, as peoples personal belongings. Everything is in our vehicle. Now its been three days. We couldnt get into our own home. Process to retrieve belongings could take at least a half hour. Many have been without their cars since the shooting and have not been allowed back in. Because this has been a crime scene. Some people who were able to go in said it was very emotional, the first time you saw the area since sundays shooting. So again, people can come here to the Elementary School to rutger Elementary School, starting at 9 00 a. M. You might be able to get your belongings. For tonight, another candlelight vigil will be held for shooting victims and the survivors of the shooting. Its being organized. So people affected in any way by the tragedy can feel support. And last night, there was a Prayer Service for the community. Its been a long and very difficult week. Very, very stressful. Very overwhelming. Im grateful to be alive. Our Community Feels violate the. Even people at the festival are feeling the pain of this. More than 100 people went to that service, praying for each other, for the gunmans family, and for first responders. A Police Chaplain says many are having a hard time, emotionally. You go into a war zone. Chaos. Everything happening at once. We had the police compound was turned into a makeshift triage. Everybody expects you to be a super hero during the day, but at the end of the day, youre flesh and blood like everyone else. One young woman we talked to said, the shooting made her question almost everything she thought before. She said, thats because she went to Gilroy High School with the gunman, and he seemed shy and normal. I speak for just about everyone watching when i say, i would trust anyone on this stage much more than i would trust our current president on matters of criminal justice. We cannot tear each other down. We have to focus on beating donald trump in 2020. Number 1, we can no longer allow a White Nationalist to be president. On the issue, the moderator asked the former Vice President about the high number of deportations of undocumented immigrants during the first year of the obama administration. Pg e told a federal judge that a wall street journal article saying its power lines of a wildfire threat is wrong. Pg e avoided replacing or repairing the power lines, even though they knew it could cause wildfires. Wall street journal specifically said perg delayed safety work on the power line that started the deadly camp fire that destroyed the town of paradise. Pg e said it looked into replacing 60 of its towers. But one was identified as the starting point of the campfire, was not on that list. At the same time, pg e is asking the Public Utilities commission to approve a billion dollar rate hike. It would increase the average customers bill by 20 a month for the next three years. There was a public hearing on this in santa rosa, but people are still struggling to rebuild after the 2017 wildfires. Utility customers gave very emotional testimony. But that came after pg e had its day first. Our commitment is to keep customer costs as low as possible. While meeting our responsibilities to safely serve all of our customers, even as our changing climate presents significant new challenges and risks. The simple truth is the high utility rates that have increased dramatically and systematically over the last several years as a result of poor management. Pg e has always tolerated some level of destruction and death because it was more profitable. Now, there will be more meetings all over the state, about this rate hike proposal. The public is invited to speak in any of those meetings that are convenient. Or you can submit a written statement to the california p. U. C. The state will have more resources to call on to help fight wildfires this season. Governor gavin newsom announced they will hire more seasonal firefighters. Right now, they will remove dead and dying trees. The governor said the projects should be finished before the end of the year. The idea is to remove fuel that would make it easier for wildfires to spread, that are in fireprone areas. Right now, we treat about 250,000 acres annually. And were trying to up that. Double it really. In the next several years. Besides the increased staffing, the governor also says there will be 13 fire engines in the states fleet of firefighting tools. Time now, 7 17. Jury deliberations continue. Nine women and three men will decide if the defendants, derek almena, and max harris, are guilty of involuntary manslaughter. The defense maintains theres reasonable doubt. Its been almost three years since 36 people died in that deadly fire in the warehouse in oaklands fruitvale neighborhood. Family members and friends of the victims have been at the trial. Now they want to see what the jury decides. Its not about retribution, revenge. Being out for blood or any of that. Or trying to direct our anger. We are here for accountability. I hope this concern to poison medicine, that from now osomething will be done. This cannot happen again. This cannot be allowed to happen again. Now, the jury has spent the last three months, hearing evidence. Including testimony from the defendants, derek almena and max harris. A Sexual Assault victim from San Francisco is taking her case to the supreme court, saying sfpd failed to properly process her rape kit. It all stems from heather marlos testimony in 2010 that she had been drugged and later assaulted. She said she submitted to a Sexual Assault will examination but then police mishandled the results. They were found in offsite facilities, in warehouses, stuffed into cop cars. Marloe filed the suit in 2016. But that case was dismissed. San Francisco Police responded saying rape is a heinous crime, but it will defend the city from what it calls meritless lawsuits. San franciscobased jewel is being sued by a connecticut man who is blaming the company for his ecigarette. He said he became addicted to the ecigarettes in high school. It resulted in a stroke in 2017, and three separate brain surgeries. The company says juul is a safe alternative for people who want to quit smoking. San francisco based lyft is pulling its ebikes after two of its deluxe bikes burst into flames. Those fires occurred in San Francisco and appeared to start in the bikes batteries. Lyft said no one was hurt. But they are investigating. Lyft is not ruling out vandalism. And fda is warning, do not feed your dogs pigeared treats because of fears of salmonella. 121 have been affected infected by salmonella.
