Reporter victims and survivors as well as First Responders and volunteers who risked their lives to save others were honored at the 9 11 memorial and museum, built where the twin towers once stood. This morning President Trump and the first lady led a moment of silence at the white house and later attended a ceremony at the pentagon, where 184 people were killed. It was day filled with shock, horror, sorrow, and righteous fury. Reporter Vice President pence participated in a Memorial Service in shanksville, pennsylvania, where united flight 93 crash landed in an open field on 9 11. 9 11 will always be remembered as a tragedy but it was also a day full of unity, hope and compassion. In that spirit, many people around the country are choosing to give back today, volunteering at local charities. The San Francisco Fire Department held its annual flag raising ceremony this morning to commemorate 18 years since 9 11. The mayor was joined by firefighters, officials and First Responders at fire station number 5. There was a ceremonial bell ringing, three sets of chimes ringing three times, and at 6 59 a. M. , the time the south tower collapsed, 343 names were read, those of the new york city firefighters killed in the line of duty that day. A piece of paper was passed down the line as different firefighters read the list. In San Francisco, volunteers are packing hundreds of thousands of meals for people in need on this day of service. The smell of the burning buildings and flames was everywhere, and it stayed there for months. Every day you walk out and have that to face. Reporter the pain from that day was turned into action. Reporter more than 1,000 volunteers from the bay area packed 275,000 healthy nonperishable meals for people in San Francisco who need it most, giving back on this day when so much was taken. 9 11 was such a horrific tragedy that we think about all the time, and having an opportunity to give Something Back on a day that was seared in our memory as a day of loss and day of tragedy, it just makes you feel good to at least know that together we are all doing something to make the world a better place. A bay area woman with a rare condition is asking the Trump Administration to reverse a policy thats put her and others with Rare Diseases at risk for deportation. Reporter isabel bueso is undergoing life saving treatment in oakland, treatment shes been receiving since she was 7 years old. She was the first person to speak on the panel today, telling the House Oversight committee that her Life Expectancy was very short until she came to california for treatment when she was a girl. Thats her doctor there in the audience watching this. The 24yearold has a rare and potentially fatal disease but her weekly treatments in oakland have extended her life. Her doctors, nurses and other staff there were watching this as it was unfolding from oakland as it was happening in washington. Last month her family was given 30 days to leave the country and now the Trump Administration is saying it will reopen her case. Shes asking the Trump Administration to reverse the policy of ending medical deferred action. Her doctor says she needs to stay here. Im devastated. I mean, i cant believe ill have a patient thats healthy, vital, contributing, a delight to be around, and if we have to send her back to guatamala without therapy, we are really handing her a death sentence. She receives weekly treatments and graduated from cal state east bay last year, now an advocate for people with Rare Diseases. Isabel bueso ended her statement to the committee by saying shes a human being with hopes and dreams for her li. Her family has received humanitarian deferral status without fail every three years and now that her case is being revisited, its unclear what that means for the deadline they were given to leave the country, which was this saturday.
