Also the white house says it will not reopen the Enrollment Period under the Affordable Care act for people who Lose Health Care coverage when they lose their jobs. The Vice President said the task force is looking at other ways to help an estimated 30 million uninsured americans. At this point the White House Coronavirus task force is working on a proposal for the president to use some of the 100 billion that we are making available to hospitals, to compensate the hospitals directly for any coronavirus treatment they provide to uninsured americans. California has extended open enrollment and covered california through the end of june. In the meantime President Trumps that he tested negative for the virus again today after taking a second test. San francisco is reporting its first confirmed case of covid19 in one of the citys homeless navigation shelters. As and captain reports, San Francisco leaders say they knew this would happen and thats why they had a plan in place. Reporter San Francisco officials are confirming the first case of covid19 in the citys Navigation Center. The department of homelessness and Supportive Housing said the individual was found to have tested positive after staying at the Division Circle Navigation Center on south venice. We knew this would happen at some point so we had a process and plan in place which was implemented overnight. Its been a part of that plan includes moving the infected person to a hospital or hotel if they dont need medical care. Cleaning the Navigation Center and testing everyone who came in contact with that individual. The department of homelessness and support of housing acknowledging that practicing social distancing inside shelters and Navigation Centers is impossible. The department saying the city is suffering from a dual crisis of homelessness and a global pandemic. These are not environments where people should be living longterm in the first place. This pandemic has really revealed that to the rest of the community. Things that our colleagues and the people who run these amazing shelters already know on a daytoday basis. The supervisor is leading the push to shelter more of the citys homeless in hotels urging them city to take drastic steps to protect the homeless. A source from the Mayors Office says that would cost upwards of 50 60 million a month, money the city cannot get back from fema. But its unconscionable to allow people to stay in close quarters or on the streets in the midst of a pandemic. From a common sense perspective and from a health perspective, we need to house in hotels in some of the 30,000 hotels that are sitting empty as we speak. People experiencing homelessness. Now the city is still working to open moscone west, dont help within the homeless population. Now with the opening of moscone west, we will be able to accomplish that in a much more effective way. Californias governor also acknowledging the homelessness crisis and he will have more details on a statewide response on friday. This time tomorrow we will specifically be laying those things out. Homelessness advocates say the current pandemic is a perfect example of why they believe homelessness is at its core, a healthcare issue. They say Going Forward they will be looking for longterm fixes to homelessness. A new food map resource is available in the south bay. The city of san jose and their schools have partnered with the Second Harvest food bank. You can find the interactive map, and it shows more than 400 locations where people in need can get food. It also details free meals for seniors and children as well as locations of food banks and which restaurants are open for pickup. The San Francisco International Airport is honoring Healthcare Professionals who are working during the coronavirus pandemic. Sfo posted these photos on twitter showing the airport all lit up in blue in recognition of those workers on the front line. Sfo says it will continue to light the airport in blue each week in april to honor all of those workers. Some Bay Area Grocery Stores are working to help First Responders by giving them extra time to shop without having to deal with crowds. Starting today save mart, lucky and food max stores open an hour earlier for all medical, Law Enforcement and fire personnel. A nurse who woke up early to shop this morning said this new window to shop is a help for both her and her family. I have my mother in the car, she wanted to support me, so she came along. But she cant go in the store because she is older and shes had some health issues. So i want to keep her safe. Not only do i have to go to work but i have to take on the responsibility of providing for my family. Its hard when Services Like these are not available. The extra hour is to think First Responders for their service. All they have to do is show an employee id to enter the stores. Pg e customers will be happy to see a discount on their bills this month. Twice year residential customers receive a state mandated climate credit.
