He and the neighbors reached out to City Council Members and the Sheriffs Office for help. They started their own Neighborhood Watch group to keep an eye out for people snaking into closed parks and beaches. The problem is we dont have the resources here and the closest hospital, depending on where you are could be half an hour to two hours away. You are jeopardizing peoples lives here. He denies there were 60 people but he admits to breaking the order. A San Francisco nonprofit aimed at feeding the hungry is changing how it does business. Joining us this morning is married grizzly founder of food runners. Good morning. Good morning. We are six weeks in two shelter at home and stay in place orders, i know with the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, a lot of companies and Tech Companies and long standing companies raised their hands and said we will help with people and money and supplies. A lot of Tech Companies have closed and most outstanding one is lift lyft, they are willing to pay the cooks to make food for us to take to the hungry. So far we havent missed that. When you talk about taking the food to people who are hungry, the whole Delivery System has changed, hasnt it . Yes, what we have is about 400 volunteers, a truck and to advance and weve been picking up food at the Tech Companies and all around San Francisco and at stores. Currently the Tech Companies are closed and restaurants are closed and the bakeries are closed. Now we are only picking up at the Grocery Stores and the wholesale markets. How are you deciding who gets the food and how is that person who is hungry reaching out to you . The story is that what we are doing as we have a kitchen on walnut street and donated kitchen we are taking donated food up there and then a young man called todd is organizing 20 volunteers and 2 professional cooks to make individual meals. We are taking those meals to places like martin the pores and north beach citizens that used to have people come in and eat but now they have to hand it out on the sidewalk. We are taking individual meals to their so we might get request from all these Apartment Buildings. To take food and the People Living there cant go out because one or two tested positive. Thats a lot of ground to cover, i think you said with just two vans and handful of people, whats your biggest challenge . The biggest challenge is, our biggest challenge is please dont throw any edible food away , donated to food runners. Every business we will pick up the food and take it to the kitchen on walnut street and then we also have more volunteers than we can use, thats really interesting. On the food runner app, when something appears like theres a donation this morning from epicurean trader, it disappears right away because of volunteer takes it and the app tells them where to take the food. What is the biggest challenge, that is keeping all the 400 volunteers to keep them busy. It is an incredible challenge do have. If we can think forward maybe six months to a year, a lot of people say that we might be tapping into ideas now but make good common sense even we are not in a pandemic. What do you hope continues from what you have learned now as we go back to normal . We need that no business in San Francisco ever throws away edible food. That is number one. Number two, we could use some money. We need to keep up the spirit of people helping people in San Francisco. Mary, how can people donate . Food runners. Org. We will take food, money or volunteers. Perfect. Food, money or volunteers, food runners. Or. Thanks for joining me and thank you for your good work in the city. Coming up next on mornings on 2, the debate over essential or nonessential during the pandemic. Poway group is pressing Governor Newsom to reopen parts of the state. The health of north koreas leader now in question. What officials in south korea are saying about the new reports. The numbers from the coronavirus pandemic will continue to grow. This morning there now morning more than 3 million around the world. 207,000 people have died. There are more than 881,000 confirmed cases who have recovered from the coronavirus. The number of confirmed coronavirus cases has jumped 40 in the past two weeks. They said they were the medical system in africa is not equipped to deal with the growing number. The red cross and World Food Program are helping by getting food to african countries and preparing medical equipment as was supplies for field hospitals. Several countries are taking steps to reopen and get back to business including a number of countries hit hard by coronavirus. Spain and the rules are being relaxed in some areas as they reported the lowest daily increase in covid19 deaths and more than a month. In italy after two months of lockdown the Prime Minister describe plans for resuming normal Business Operations this morning starting with wholesale construction. If we dont respect the distance and dont respect precautions, the epidemic curve can rise again and spin out of control. We will have more people die. Then the damage for the economy would be irreversible. Man while School Officials and wuhan, china are preparing high schools to allow seniors to return on may 6 to complete their final school year. Stepped up cleaning and social distancing will be strictly enforced. We are following a developing story in the health of north Korean Leader ken. This morning the south korean government is pushing back from rumors that he might be dead. Reporter Fred Paul Kopp has more. The mystery surrounding ken deepens. The leader has not been seen a public in some tyain last week rumors began circulating that he is either dead or incapacitated following her surgery.
