The Department Says there were reports of people breaking in and stealing things at this walmart before the fire started. In some video there were shelves cleared and items on the ground. The but i and she couldnt say if the fire was intentionally set or if its connected to the possible looters. About five miles away another fire broke out at a Storage Facility on spearing boulevard. Several bay area cities will have curfews this week after the violent protest over the Police Killing of george floyd. The San Francisco curfew began at 8 p. M. Last night and will remain in effect until further notice. In san jose people have in order to stay in their homes between 8 30 p. M. And 5 a. M. For the next seven days. Walnut creek has issued a similar curfew order this week. The one that curfew in santa clara, san leandro, and Pleasant Hill just came to an end during the past hour. Oakland is the only major bay area city that has not imposed a curfew. Mayor libby schaaf says she is not ruling one out. A curfew is an option. New this morning, firefighters and walmart workers have a lot of cleanup to do today after a strenuous paper and overnight. It happened at the walmart on davison street in san leandro. Firefighters arrived at 1 a. M. To find the flames shooting out of the roof. The heat also caused some propane tanks to explode. Firefighters say a smaller garbage fire from earlier in the night rekindled to start this one. The official cause is under investigation, but video shows evidence of looting throughout the store shelves. Also this morning, in san leandro firefighters worked to put out a fire at a storage unit facility. You can see them using their saws to open some of the metal storage doors. This happened on his berrien boulevard at a one a. M. As well. Firefighters were able to put that fire out pretty quickly. Oakland firefighters have also contained a fire in the cities at a. Neighborhood that fire started just before midnight in an Apartment Building on lee street just north of lake merritt. Video from the citizen app shows heavy smoke and flames coming from the top of the building. Fire crews were able to stop the flames from spreading to other buildings. 12 people were displaced, but there are no injuries. The overnight curfew in walnut creek is over for now. When Walnut Creek Police started getting reports of people breaking into downtown businesses. People shattered glass doors at the target store and a couple of other stores on olympic and downtown. There is video of people carrying armloads of items out of the stores. Walking through the Broadway Plaza Shopping Center you can see some windows shattered. It didnt look like people got into this Old Navy Store or the nordstrom in that area as well. Many stores in the Broadway Plaza area including the apple store had already boarded up windows and were not damaged. The mayor of walnut creek spoke with ktvu last night and says the people in the images of the looting she believes were not protesters, but rather people trying to take advantage of the situation. She said some of the people by the looting had posted their plans ahead of time on social media. There is real concern that this is mayhem and vandalism and meanness and greed and has nothing to do with addressing the real problems in the United States about justice and racial equality. Reporter there is a protest planned in walnut creek at three 00 this afternoon. The mayor says the city has plans in place to keep the peace. She believes that protest will be very peaceful Walnut Creek Police say they will be getting help from Law Enforcement agencies throughout the area this afternoon and into the evening. The mayor did reporting live , allie rasmus, ktvu fox 2 news. Police believe a group of looters in Pleasant Hill are not affiliated with any protests in the bay area. Sky fox was over a best buy store yesterday. We could see people smashing the glass on the storefront doors and then start to grab whatever they could from inside. Police believe the looters are moving through cities vandalizing businesses. The also said a group of looters gathered at the crossroads Shopping Center. In san leandro looters also hit mayfair mall, Marina Square, and walmart video shows looters stealing boxes of shoes at the shoe palace and Marina Square. Police arrived and arrested at least two men with no word on how much merchandise was stolen or how many others were arrested. The city of santa clara has declared a local emergency because of violence by protesters in neighboring san jose. There were several parts of san jose were demonstrators gathered. Some broke windows and vandalized businesses one of the biggest crowds was right near city hall. Police put on riot gear as protesters began throwing rocks and bottles at officers. The police chief says more than a 100 people have been arrested and Property Damage is in the millions of dollars. We have for the calls for change. We have heard the calls for accountability. We cannot allow our city to evolve in the chaos. Anybody who violates curfew can be arrested. San jose police are getting help from the Santa Clara County Sheriffs Office. The chief says he does not want to call in the National Guard. At the presiding judge of Santa Clara County superior courts decided to close all courts today. Judge deborah ryan says she will monitor whats going on in san jose and other parts of the county before deciding if the courts will remain closed tomorrow. She says her decision will be based on community safety. Target has announced it is Closing Stores across the country temporarily all in response to the recent looting and violent protests. The closures impact 18 target source right here in the bay area, including stores in oakland, San Francisco, and san jose for the company says the move is to ensure the safety of the target workers and customers. Several bay area target source have been heavily damaged and looted during the recent protest , including the target in downtown oakland. Also amazon is now scaling back deliveries and changing routes and areas affected. This video is from santa monica showing looters breaking into an amazon van and stealing all the packages inside.
