Reporter and lieutenant Jonathan Baxter from San Francisco fire is on scene briefing us with the latest developments. Well go to that live right now. That firefighter has recent by released from the Trauma Center and is going to be okay. We have the three displaced residents, as well as an unaccounted number of employees from the established businesses that are affected from this fire. Our Fire Department is working with our Housing Development department, Human Services association, and red cross, to make sure that these individuals are afforded proper information, proper services, that will allow them to recover from this incident moving forward. At this time, the building of origin for this fire is being determined by our Fire Investigation task force to be to the rear of 140 14th street. I want to remind you that this is an active Fire Investigation, meaning this will be fluid. This could change within the dynamics of a cause and original were once it is safe for them to get into the footprint to properly evaluate what the point of originallen is, and then what the cause is going to be for this fire, which will come at a later time. With that, i am open for questions. [ inaudible ] so the question was, theres information that there was a mattress fire on the area street side last night. That is correct. We can confirm that there was a mattress fire last night around 11 00 in the evening. That mattress fire was extinguished by Engine Company 6. That was associated to a homeless encampment in that area. Again, that fire was completely extinguished last night by Engine Company number 6 around 11 00, 11 30 in the evening. [ inaudible ] so the question is, is do we believe that this fire was related to the mattress fire . Again, our fire investigators will take that into account, but it is too early at this thi but, again, our fire investigators have that information. They are evaluating what occurred last night, and they will place that into their determining factor as to the cause and origin of this fire. All right, listening here to lieutenant Jonathan Baxter from the San Francisco Fire Department, talking about that massive five alarm fire that broke out this morning and took firefighters three hours to bring under control. Six buildings were destroyed. He did mention that one firefighter, who was injured, has now been released from the Trauma Center. He also said that the investigation obviously is ongoing, but that they think say building of origin, that it was in the rear of 140 14th street. That it was in the rear of the building where that fire may have sported, but he said obviously things could change as the investigation goes on, because its a very fluid scene. There was also a mattress fire last night nearby in a homeless encampment. The lieutenant was asked in that fire and the fire this morning may be connected. He said that they are working to try to figure that out. Right now, they just dont have the answer. So, again, well continue to follow this. If we get information to during this newscast, we will bring it to you. A grass fire in concord forced authorities to close two lanes of highway 4 this afternoon. That fire started just after 2 30 today west of willow pass road. The flames burned about 15 acres. The two right eastbound lanes of highway 4 and the off ramp to willow pass road have reopened. No word yet on what caused that fire. In vallejo, two Police Lieutenants onleave in connection with the construction of evidence from a shooting, say theyve done nothing wrong. Floridas department of health is reporting a 23 uptick in hospitalizations among young people, between july 16th and 24th. Health experts say rising cases in this age group could complicate how states approach school reopenings. Its not just necessarily screening the sick and making sure that they stay home, its about improving ventilation. And positive test rates are on the rise in several states including virginia, ohio, and tennessee. When the governor issued a state mandate to essentially wear masks in public places, state law allows Law Enforcement to issue misdemeanor citations which have steep fines and possible jail. However, three of the nine bay area counties, contra costa, marin, and napa, have enacted local rules that are far less harsh than the states. It appears that only a handful of citations have been issued. Were trying to lead with education, so ideally, were not going to sneak up on anybody and smack them with a fine, but give them the opportunity to take corrective action.
