San Leandro Police said they chased a driver and a stolen acura in oakland where the driver crashed at peterman and apple street at about 11 00 last night. San Leandro Police say he then got out of the car with an assault style weapon. A san leandro k9 officer shot and killed him. This afternoon a few dozen people protested the departments third deadly shooting in 13 months. San leandro doesnt have a no chase policy and they had every opportunity to de escalate this before it happened. Guilty or innocent, it is not okay for the police to carry out extrajudicial killings in our city. Officials said it was body camera video and the officer will be interviewed tomorrow. The man who was shot and killed was latino, 35 years old and from castro valley. So far his name has not been released.
