Most all sparked by recent lightning. The governor is expected to given up date. We will bring it that News Conference live once it gets underway. We do have team coverage. We are monitoring those evacuations in san mateo and santa cruz. We will have the latest information on the lightning complex fire that has destroyed several homes already near vacaville. Sarah, good afternoon. Reporter cal fire actually just wrapped up a News Conference 30 minutes ago and gave us an up date about the lmu complex. There are several different fires burning across the state. Hellfire has requested 375 fire engines to help with all of the fires burning in california. The lmu lightning complex has limited resources at this point. It is a blades made up of seven different fires. It has burned 72 square miles and five counties including napa, lake, sonoma, solano, and yolo county. 60 fires were started by Lightning Strikes. This led us to this point. 50 structures have been destroyed. 50 have been damaged. Containment is at several . In the north end of vacaville alone, thousands of homes are threatened. Four people have been hurt. We do not know the extent of their injuries. We heard from cal fire about the challenges they face as they enter another day at this firefight. With a hot bright winds that may occur this afternoon that could hamper arbitral efforts. We are sharing resources up and down the state as there are many large fires that are occurring at different counties. As chief jones just alluded to, resources are stretched thin. Reporter mandatory Evacuation Orders have been issued across the north bay. Fire officials stressed the importance of listening to the orders. If you hear high low sirens from patrol cars, that means you have to leave. There is an imminent threat to life. We have a list of Evacuation Orders at ktvu. Com. The fire raised in Solano County. We spoke with people in vacaville about what they went through. One man got on a bulldozer to protect his neighbors home. Another man broke up at 2 am to find his property on fire. Its been a few years since ive been on one. I called the owner and said give me your code, ive got to get on the state. My son woke me up and says, get out, get out, get out. We just ran out and the clothes we have on and we left. We left everything behind. Reporter had to ktvu. Com for a list of Evacuation Centers. Ktvu fox2 news. For the California Wildfires to the covid19 pandemic, were getting a live from gavin newsom. Lets listen in. The tears repeating, 130 degree temperatures in the state of california. 130 degree temperatures in the state of california. This is the highest recorded in modern history and in Human History and death valley. We have seen wildfire activity as a consequence of this heatwave and a consequence of all of this Lightning Strikes. We currently have active 6754 fires since the beginning of this year. You contrast that and you can see in the slide where we were at this time last year. Rather than over 6700 fires we have had the battle, we are now battling by contrast we have battled just over 4000 fires last year. This fire season has been very active. And not surprisingly, that activity has taken shape in a number of counties up and down the state of california. We declared a state wide an emergency yesterday. Fundamentally, that helps us avail ourselves of resources to combat these resources within the state and in terms of our mutual aid system across the western United States. I will talk more about that in a moment and draw down federal support as well. Here is where we are. Currently, we are battling some 367 known fires that are burning statewide. I say known fires. That is because for you see this amount of Lightning Strikes, and by the way, it was june 2008 where we had roughly half the number of Lightning Strikes. June 2008 is memorable here in the state of california, particularly at the state operations center. All of the work the cal fire had to do to address those Lightning Strikes. This is compared to over 10,000 over the last few days here in the state. As those Lightning Strikes sparked and as you have a lot of smoke, its a difficult time determining total number of fires and tilt certain things clear, and we have the opportunity to go to more remote parts of the state. So 367 known fires, but the prospect of that number going up is very real. The number that is most impactful at the moment are the 23 major fires and what we describe as complexes of fires. That is an area that has multiple fires not concentrated together, but concentrated and spaced apart and within a geographic area. And so 23 major fires that we are currently addressing aggressively through our efforts both local, regional, and the state and federal level. Lets talk about some that we have highlighted over the last number of days. The apple fire around riverside county. The lake and the ranch fires in and around la county. You can see the containment of some of those fires. Good progress in the apple fire. We have been able to pull resources from the apple fire and into Northern California where we have experienced the majority of these Lightning Strikes and new fires. You can see containment of the lake fire beginning to move in a direction that gives us confidence that weve got our arms around the conditions. You see a number of other fires with containment. When you get into the 35 to 40 without major conditions changing as it relates to windy conditions, humidity, and the like, it gives you confidence in the capacity of our front line to take control of those conditions and mitigate the spread and the damage of those fires. They are still active. They are major fires. We are seeing some real containment and real progress. Here are the number of fires for we are not yet seeing containment. Brandnew fires, lightning complex fires, the ccu which is in around san mateo, santa cruz area. That is a complex of fires. 22 fires within that complex. Working aggressively to contain those fires. The lmu lightning complex similarly with a number of different fires in and around lake county, napa county, a little bit around Sonoma County. These fires break out, the gamble fire, they can is the fire, etc. Etc. We are working aggressively to maintain the environment. The carmel fire and the jones fire which has gotten a lot of attention in and around grass valley and nevada city. That is more of a grass and brush fire. The 5 containment looks modest, but there is a sense of optimism. That optimism can dissipate pretty quickly as the wind conditions change and the humidity and other conditions change. Nonetheless, those are the larger fires that we are addressing in real time. 23 up and down the state of california that we marked as major fires. Hundreds of fires throughout the state of california. This is extraordinary weather that we are experiencing. All of these Lightning Strikes too. This is what the state does. We are quite familiar with these challenges and everybody watching this quite familiar with the challenges of wildfires in the state of california as well. There is no question that while last year we experienced acuity of five the kinkead fire, and some others in southern california, the total number of fires last year was substantially lower than the activity we are experiencing this year. And also what has occurred over the last 72 hours has stretched the resources of this state. That said, we are in a better state of preparedness. I have had multiple press conferences like this over the course of the last few months talking about vegetation management, performance management. A few days ago we announced a new partnership with the u. S. Forest service to match californias commitment to address some of our vegetation for its management by matching the total number of acres that we are currently addressing each and every year. New partnerships for me with the u. S. Forest service. In addition to the partnership we formed with the California Legislature this year that provided as an additional, despite this historic challenge with budget shortfalls, we were able to increase our budget for cal fire by 85. 6 million to get and bring on permanent full time firefighting force in addition to that, recognizing that we started to see some to a day after the budget was signed that was potentially, it was leading to some indication we might be where we are today. We supplemented with it additional 72. 4 million the availability of seasonal firefighters. The time we announce 858 seasonal firefighters, we wanted to bring in to the total number of available cal fire personnel. 830 of those 858 have already been brought on. This is just over the course of the last few weeks. That supplemental commitment was timely. We certainly are now beneficiaries of some of those new firefighting resources. And by the way, in addition to the cal fire personnel we brought on, we tried to supplement her hand crews and work at the california conservation corps. Those core members were part of that 72. 4 million. They have come on board. They are out there on the front lines helping support our National Guardsmen and women and supporting our local front line personnel as well and our federal personnel. We have requested but we refer to as an emac our Emergency Assistance program with states all across the western United States. We have requested 375 emac engines to come from other states. Id like to think the governor of arizona who has sent equipment here to the state of california. Governor sissel luck in nevada who sent equipment into the state of california. And governor abbott. We would like to thank him. In texas, they will be sending crews and support. The stretch of these requests are not lost on anyone when you have a west coast heatwave with fire activity all across the western United States putting pressure on those assets within the states, and that includes the Pacific North coast and areas in oregon and Washington State as well. Complicating this picture and challenging time, but again, we are familiar and we are more than capable of stepping up and doing everything we can to meet the moment. Worldclass firefighting force. Worldclass equipment that we have made substantial investment over the course of the last four or five years to upgrade. I have spent many occasion with you out there highlighting some of the new firefighting suppression Tech Knowledge he that we have in the new infrared camera systems, our capacity satellite equipment and satellites that have supported with the National Guard among others. The partnerships that we have been forming locally and federally as well as some of these procurements that have been highlighted as it relates, well, no longer the vietnam war area but now finally we are bringing on some of the new blackhawk helicopters that will allow faster time to suppression and allow more personnel as well as more safety and more firefighting suppression capacity. Ultimately when the training is fully advanced, it will allow us nighttime suppression as well. We are putting everything we have on these fires. They are stretched all across the state of california. We are not getting the support of some of our partners in the western United States. And for that, again, we are very grateful. This extraordinary weather event has put pressure on our energy supply. That has been selfevident with flex alerts weve been putting out since friday night. We experienced the internet station on friday and saturday. None from sunday, monday, or tuesday. We took aggressive action on sunday and monday as it relates to emergency orders and efforts with an executive order to put into place aggressive strategies to shift their Energy Consumption in the state of california as well as utilize, temporarily utilize backup sources of power, peak or plans, and the like. We have worked with la dwp and the state water partners to get more hydroelectricity into our portfolio. San francisco, now providing more hydroresources to date and they even work yesterday. I want to think our providers, not only investor owned utilities, but providers out there that have done everything in their power to flex that power particularly during critical hours of 2 pm to 9 pm. I said 3 pm to 10 pm and that has been accurate. Today we are advancing it from 2 pm this afternoon to 9 pm. Today we believe will be another challenging day. We are up to the task. You have proven you are up to the task. You proved that on sunday, monday, and last night. We are looking at upwards of 47,000 megawatts of power full load tonight, today, that may be utilized because of these high temperatures. Tomorrow, we believe they will drop down to 45,000 and friday at 43,000. Tonight we believe in the immediate is the last night that we really need everybody to do everything in their power to flex their power use and power consumption. I will show you a slide of what that entails individually. I want to acknowledge the work that has been done by some of the Largest Energy providers and producers and consumers in this state. Not only the state of california and its operations pumping water, not just being the beneficiary of electricity procured from hydroelectric but also the work that was done by tesla and some of their efforts by chevron and by marathon that really needed to our efforts. Id like to think the navy for all of their good work with their ships in port that generated a lot of use of electricity or consumed a lot of electricity that really met this moment and help to support the efforts on sunday, monday, and tuesday. A lot of partners and a lot of participation. A lot of good work done by users and the utilities, and by each and every one of you that got us through these last few days in ways that were rather remarkable considering what many had anticipated. And so, i want to thank all of you, those major consumers for their reduction and usage. I want to remind everybody that we have an investigation underway. In the spirit of collaboration with the pmc and the iso, the California Independent system operator, they will be providing a response to my request in terms of their shared responsibility to forecast the need for megawatt usage and to look at exactly how and what is necessary to procure and produce that as well as some of the application with the Public Utilities commission. We will get some more clarification and a deeper investigation as it relates to the future so this will never happen again. We are working aggressively to see to it that that is the case. I will remind people, and i mentioned this yesterday, a typical summer day we are using about 38 thousand megawatts. Again, today, we are upwards of 47,000 to be exact. We are predicting 47,284 megawatts of energy being utilized here today. Over 47,000 typically we would see about 38,000 megawatts on any summer day. We clearly have a lot of work to do. I will remind everybody of the importance of cooling your home, office is overnight. Do what you can to set your air conditioning to 78 degrees or higher. Particularly between 2 pm and 9 pm as it relates to what we project is the most important time period today. And try to do your best to avoid using your dishwasher, your dryer, your washing machine and major appliances during those hours. We realize not everyone can accommodate that but it would help our efforts to get through what we think is the last challenging night as it relates to this energy use. We also want you as always to do what you can to turn off all of the unnecessary lights that you possibly can. I want to thank you for everything you have done the last few nights to do just that. Id like to turn to what is happening with the total number of positive cases in the state of california. We have challenges not only with energy. Challenges as it relates to conditions with wildfires. We continue to be challenged by this pandemic. Here are our updated case numbers. 6164 number of people that we have tested positive in our last reporting period. A seven day average of 7539. You can see the 14 day Positivity Rate at 6. 6 . We have been testing on average are shy of 120,000 individuals on a daily basis. It is important to note the extent, it is a milestone. We have tested over 10 Million People in the state of california. 10. 1 Million People have been tested in this state. Positivity rate over a 14 day period at 6. 6 . I comment often that the seven day positivity is that 6. 3 . 6. 3 with the seven day positivity of 6. 6 with a 14 day positivity. We have seen a decrease in hospitalizations over that same 14 day period. 17 decrease in hospitalizations. Hospitalizations went down. 1 yesterday. They went up modestly the day before. You can see from this graph that we are seeing a little bit of stabilization in terms of the decline and a plateauing of sorts in the decline of hospitalizations. While the last few weeks we have seen some positive direction, the last few days it does not in and of itself make a trend. It should not generate headlines. It is an important point of caution and consideration as it relates to our efforts to reduce the stress in our Healthcare Delivery system. By the way, that stress represent 7 of total number of hospitalized patients in the system with covid19 positive patients. Hospitalizations have been going down. Icus have also been going down. They are down 13 in the last 14 days. Hospitalizations have dropped. 1 yesterday a full 1 drop in icus. But not this similar to hospitalizations, we have seen over the last few days bouncing a little bit up and a little bit down in the icus. I see you omissions for now 19 with covid19 positive patients represents 19 of icu admissions. 23 or weaker two ago. And now we are at 19 . We have 40
