An ambulance took him to the hospital where he was treated for 3 inch deep wound to his right leg. The scariest moment was when i was crawling out of the surf. I was thinking if it was a shark or marine animal, i hope it does not take another bite out of me. Reporter miami beach authorities believe bowden was bitten by a blackfin shark , they can weigh up to 250 pounds. Reporter this is a shark expert with the California Academy of sciences in San Francisco. They are excited in terms of the food available. When they are feeding on fast moving fish, they are racing around and biting anything splashing like a body surfer. Reporter familiar with miami beach waters, it was in the middle of a mullet migration, this one shows sharks in the same waters. Black tipped sharks are also found in the pacific but never north of mexico. Bowden runs a organic tea business in santa rosa is an experienced surfer who never had a shark encounter until wednesday.
