A lack of social distancing, people not wearing face masks and large gatherings. All of that is prompting leaders to cancel this weekends street closure. One block of the avenue between prospect and diablo road has been closed every weekend since june. New at 10 00, smith is here now after talking with town officials and Business Owners about whats going on. The street was closed on friday, saturday and sunday only. Danville leaders say they are done with education and had to do something after some businesses did not comply with the health order. A fight broke out and cases spiked. We came out to hear and we went all the way down past the front of the restaurant. The owner of the kitchen and bar estimates a loss of a dozen outdoor tables on the avenue in downtown danville after leaders decided to open the streets backup. Initially, a little bit of disappointment. But, after we thought about it, i think it is a better choice because of what has been happening over the past few weeks. Whats been happening, repeated problems at a few establishments. Businesses serving alcohol without food, Live Entertainment brought in creating a party scene, attracting large groups of young outoftowners. We have had complaints almost every day receiving from folks the fact that they were observing that people werent wearing masks, people were congregating, not social distancing. A tipping point, a fistfight among 75 people, mostly drunk, two saturdays ago at 1 00 in the morning. That was sort of the peak of the disturbances. We lost multiple tables. They got up and walked out on their bills because they did not feel safe being here. Danville officials suspect large gatherings may have caused a rise in covered cases earlier this month. At one point, over a 14 day period, the new case count per 100,000 population was among the worst in Contra Costa County. We were concerned because the community of this size, you dont have to have a lot of new cases to begin to really skew the numbers. The city manager says rates have since dropped dramatically. The new orange tier status now allowing for Indoor Dining at 50 percent. Businesses see that as a fighting chance to get through the winter especially after the street reopening. The owner feared all the bad behavior meant he would be back to take out only. I would rather make less money now or lose less money rather than have us all get closed down and jeopardize the real future of our restaurants. Restaurants will lose some Outdoor Dining but not all. They have curbside and Indoor Dining at 50 . New at 10, Medical Center staff says they have identified five cases of the coronavirus within the hospital. The hospital says two patients sharing a room and three employees caring for them tested positive over the last week. The patients have no symptoms and the employees have mild symptoms. 28 more employees are under quarantine and 15 patients are now in isolation. Pg e Officials Say they are monitoring the weather conditions and will continue to turn the lights back on as conditions improve. As of 6 00 tonight, 305,000 customers had their power restored leaving 45,000 customers still in the dark. Pg e says they hope to have more power restored into tonight and tomorrow. Executives think the power shut off likely prevented fires. Pg e has aircraft and 1800 inspectors on the ground checking the lines and assessing peoples safety before turning power back on. Now, to Oakland Hills were an overloaded general, generator likely caused a fire that destroyed two homes in at least two cars. The fire was reported at 9 45. Authorities say an aggressive attack from multiple agencies help to get the fire under control in less than two hours. Fortunately, no one was injured , but at least eight people were displaced. I know they had a generator running. You can see the lights in the living room. Whatever exploded, exploded between the greenhouse and the one next door. The fire is still under investigation and a preliminary assessment pointed to a potentially overloaded generator. Investigators say the age of the generator may have been a contributing factor. Tonight, there is considerable frustration for pg e customers losing power despite being told they were not. They said they understand the need for power shut offs, but they told rob roth today, they expect more Accurate Information from pg e. Reporter jeff is the owner of farmstead cheeses and wine. He has not been able to open this week, not because of covered, but because his power has been out. Four times in two years. That is how many times the threat of wildfires has forced the blackout. Pg e says they mistakenly sent notices saying they would not be part of the blackout when in fact, they did lose power. That message should never have gone out. We sincerely apologize to our customers for the confusion and the inconvenience. We are looking into the process to make sure things move smoother next time. Some counties are going to be opening in person Early Voting Centers starting on saturday. An unprecedented number continued, expected to be continuing to climb. Here we are a week ahead of the election and we are already looking in the eyes of a 50 turnout. I have been doing this 25 years and i have never seen voters vote at this rate sorely. Everyone vote, it is important. Outside, voters put their ballots into official dropback is, boxes. As it is such a big election, we want to devote early. I wanted to make sure my vote count and bring it to the voting office. I know it will be secure and safe. There will also be curbside driveby ballot dropoffs and curbside voting where people can get a ballot and vote in their cars. Some counties plan to open Early Voting Centers for people to drop off ballots or vote in person. Whatever side you choose to pick, it is very important to vote. In california, you can register to vote up to and including election day, but you have to do it in person. Many county say with so many people testing ballots early, the tallies will reflect more votes. I expect we should be done with the election account by 11 00 are so. We hope to have 95 of all our ballots counted by thursday, november 12. Two wildfires continue to roar through the hills of Southern California tonight. The silverado and blue ridge fires are being fueled by the santa ana winds by the cindys of, cities of irvine and yorba linda. Fires exploded in size yesterday. Combined, they have now burned more than 44 square miles. Theyre looking into whether one of the fires, wires sparked the fires. The silverado fire is just 5 contained with 750 firefighters assigned to it. The blue ridge fire has 1000 firefighters working to stop its spread. It is going to continue to cross and encroach upon the homes in multiple areas. Our priority rate is getting people evacuated and out of the path of the fire. Two firefighters were severely injured while battling the silverado fire in irvine. A big difference from what we saw the last couple nights. Last night was really windy, obviously, with the red flag warning. The night before, that was something else. Gusts up to near 90 miles per hour. A much better set up. The red flag warnings have been dropped. There is a little bit of and onshore winds. It is at the coast and very light.
