Time now, 701 happening right now. Once again, a stretch of interstate 80 in the east bay will be shut down for the entire weekend for a major repaving project. Caltrans has closed down eastbound lanes of interstate 80 and Contra Costa County. Our camera cut video of the long line of dump trucks and some of the early roadwork being done late last night. Closure stretches from highway four in hercules to the coming skyway and crockett. Those lanes will remain closed until early monday morning. Heres a map of the closure area. The main detour begins at highway four in hercules and you can take highway four east to 680. Northbound and eventually rejoin 80 in fairfield and cordelia. Drivers can use 780 westbound to get to benicia vallejo. Caltrans says the single repaving project will accomplish two very important goals. Once this project is completed, motorists will experience a smoother ride along the interstate 80 along here in Contra Costa County. This will also extend the extend the lifespan of the roadway, which will mean minimizing the labor work for maintenance crews to go out there and make those repairs. In the long run. This is the second or three closures of that portion of eastbound i80. There will be one more the weekend of august the 18th. Westbound lanes will be closed for the same repaving project during the Labor Day Weekend as well. The chp says at least one person was killed on highway 101in san jose. Happening today, the oakland as are set to host game one of a two game bay bridge series. As fans are planning another reverse boycott. And once again, theyll be leaning on the fans of the their bay area rival for support. Just last month, 40,000 people chanted sell the team at oracle park when the two teams played in San Francisco. Since then, we have seen similar fan support. When the as played colorado and los angeles. And this weekend is the latest demonstration for fans to protest the teams plans to move to las vegas. Organizers are urging fans to pack the ballpark to send a clear message to the as owners. They do. School year is about to begin and Nonprofit Groups across the bay area are now working to make sure the kids are ready when they get back to class. Ktvu is james torres is live from San Mateo Event Center. Tell us about a backpack giveaway thats happening shortly. Good morning , frank. Good morning to you. Well, we are at the San Mateo County event center here where students still have about another week to enjoy that summer vacation. But some of these larger districts say in oakland, san jose, theyll be going back to school later this next coming week. Now, as we inch closer to that first day of school, getting ready for kids is likely top of mind for most parents all around the bay area. And thats why organizations are doing these types of backpack giveaways. We saw an example of that in san jose earlier this week where volunteers gave out about 4000 backpacks fully loaded with supplies, making sure kids have nothing to worry about when they go back to the classroom. A bit of a relief that knowing that, you know, they programs like this exist. You know, that we care about students education because at the end of the day, they are the future. At the San Mateo Event Center, the nonprofit samaritan house plans to give away about 3000 backpacks to its clients. Clients, they say, often struggle to put food. This givea little different than what you might see in other places since covid volunteers have used this contact. Contactless drivethru style of pickup supplies. So that way, parents, when you come out here, its real easy for you. All you do is drive in. You spend a couple of minutes driving through a couple tables here, folks hand you what you need through the window and then youll be on your way all of that set to kick off at about 9 00 this morning. Yes, absolutely. Good morning to both of you. The clouds are out there this morning. It feels really nice in most areas, but the headline will be the heat, especially inland later today, peaking tomorrow, giving you a live look here from ktvu across the oakland estuary. The low clouds, the patchy fog, the patchy drizzle out there this morning as we take a look at the visibility, not a lot of trouble on those highways. We are seeing a little bit of thicker fog at Half Moon Bay. Visibility about a quarter or a mile and a quarter there. So a drive along highway one this morning. You are likely to find some thicker areas of fog, something to be aware of. Meanwhile, the onshore breeze hasnt quit completely, but fairfield ten miles per hour. So fairly weak for today. And we know when its that week our inland cities not going to get much relief from that onshore breeze. 60 degrees this morning in napa, 64 in brentwood, closer to the water, we have 59 in hayward with the clouds with us, at least for the Morning Hours. Heres a look at the futurecast by 10 00, do expect it to peel back. So an early clearing followed by partly cloudy to mostly cloudy skies along the coast. The coastline going to remain very cool to mild for the weekend as we get into the evening hours. If you have dinner plans about sunset or so, weve got San Francisco, parts of the peninsula in the east bay shore, theyre covered once again as the clouds begin, their return across the bay into the evening hours. Meanwhile, a comparison from yesterday into today. Were going to see anywhere from 5 to 10 degrees of warming, especially inland today. 94 expected for santa rosa, 95 in livermore. Meanwhile, if youre going to the game, giants versus as in oakland for today, a beautiful one there. San jose, youre going to 84. Heres a better look at some of the numbers along the peninsula. 84 in redwood city and some of our hotter spots for today. Areas like antioch going to 96. And we dont stop here. I do expect our temperatures inland by tomorrow to reach 100 degrees or so. A better look at what we can expect for the rest of the weekend and the cooldown in the extended forecast coming up. Well, its august fifth and Mammoth Mountain is finally saying goodbye to the ski season. Youre looking at video from earlier this week and you can see plenty of people. Were still making the most of the snow. Its a decent amount that looks left at that part of the mountain. Keep in mind, we are well into this summer. However the resort says tomorrow, is it . Thats going to be its final day this years season lasted 207, five days. Thats the second longest season ever for the resort in total this season, says. The resort says it measured 715in of snow at the main lodge 900in at the summit. Mammoth is tentatively set to reopen for the next season on november 10th. Thats only 100 days from now. And after some tough seasons of where its not been worth it, the question is, do we get a repeat . I know, rosemary, now were asking you to predict winter. Oh, my goodness. Were still six, seven weeks from fall. How about sunday . Lets take it one day at a time. Good morning to both of you. A beautiful view here, mount diablo, where we have a warm up coming our way. Some are clearly not over just yet. We will continue with the heat up for a few days and then were going to bring those temperatures down. So if you do enjoy the heat, its coming our way. If you dont like it, well, i think well be able to bear it, at least for a few days. Heres a view of a Storm Tracker two, a very weak onshore breeze with us this morning. We have got the low clouds along the coast inside the bay, patchy drizzle to start the day. A little bit of low lying fog along the coastline. I have Half Moon Bay reporting about a mile. Visibility a little tough to tell whats going on over areas of the west right now, but the futurecast model does a better depiction for you. Theres that ridge of High Pressure, that dome that is actually strengthening in our direction for the weekend, that is helping to warm things up. We also have a ridge here right off our coastline over the pacific, but by in sunday looks again to be the hottest day as we get into monday, those the ridge starts to break down. It starts to shift just a little bit. Has to do with the trough thats developed here tuesday morning. We have this coming into play and that is going to change our pattern. Going to cool things down and ill show you that in the numbers with the extended forecast right now, 55 degrees in San Francisco. Start your morning in napa, 60 degrees for the inner east bay, upper 50s in walnut creek. Its relatively nice out there. A little bit of a breeze in some areas, a little bit cool. If youre getting out to walk the dog, you may need a jacket, especially closer to the coast inside the bay, afternoon highs going to be quite nice around the bay. Were looking at 76 in oakland for today, 69 in the city of San Francisco. You go inland, its a warm one, maybe a pool day in livermore, 95. In the north bay. Beautiful 86. For those of you that are thinking about wine tasting, heres a look at your extended forecast. Getting into the weekend. We have temperatures reaching 100 degrees, even going a little bit above for some of our hotter spots, mid upper 80s for our warmer locations around the bay upper 60s at the coast. We do begin to see a cooldown on monday. Its a subtle one, especially for inland cities, but way more comfortable getting into tuesday. Wednesday were looking at 80s for our inland communities, 70s once again for our bayside and 60s at the coast. Back to you. Yeah 80 is much more of my speed. All right, thanks, rosemary. Well, 729 family members, friends and Community Members all gathered in San Francisco last night to pay tribute to ryan bluford, the 41 year old San Francisco man was shot and killed by Police Officers during a tense confrontation in the citys Bayview District last month. Family members say bluford had been struggling with the loss of his mother to cancer late last year. And they say police should have used other tactics instead of deadly force. I really want to learn what deescalation strategies they employ out of all of those Police Officers. I wish one of them would have just took the time to say, hey, lets talk. Relatives say ryan bluford is survived by four children who range in age from 3 to 20 years old. And last nights vigil came just hours after San Francisco police did release body cam video of that fatal shooting. And it was released during a virtual town hall meeting. As Christien Kafton reports, often say they were forced to open fire after the suspect pointed a gun at them. Police say the man who died in that officer involved shooting was 41 year old ryan blue from San Francisco. They say he was armed with a handgun at the time and he raised and pointed it at officers moments before they opened fire. They released new Body Worn Camera video of that incident. Were about to show that video. And a quick warning. It is graphic. Put your hands up and get on the ground. Police slowed and enhanced that video highlighting the weapon. They say they recovered at the scene. San Francisco Police say they were in the area before the shooting and saw an unrelated suspect who had a felony warrant. And in the process of taking that man into custody, bluford showed up at the scene demanding officers free the man they just taken into custody. Officers say bluford continued to yell at them to release the man, and they say he pulled up his shirt to reveal a handgun tucked into his waistband. Get your hands up. Police say the officers told bluford to put his hands up or get on the ground more than two dozen times. Ultimately they say bluford refused. They say he raised the gun and pointed it at the officers. Police say that is when two officers opened fire, striking bluford. Mister bluford looked towards the Patrol Officers and with his right hand, removed the handgun from his waistband and held it at his side. Mister bluford then immediately raised his right arm into an extended position and pointed the handgun towards the officers. An officer involved shooting occurred with Patrol Officer one firing. His department issued patrol, rifle and Patrol Officer two firing. His department issued handgun officers on scene, administered cpr, and bluford was transported to zuckerberg San Francisco general hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police say this incident is still under investigation, both within the department and by the District Attorneys Office in San Francisco. Christien kafton ktvu fox two news. Time now is 732. Dorsey says he supports supervised consumption sites, but he did add, quote, it makes little sense to me that he would fund and staff limited services for voluntary drop ins by drug users at a time when we are endeavoring to engage with the involuntary population of drug users whose lawless conduct suggests a far more acute need for life saving care and a robust overdose, prevention services. San Francisco Police say they have seized more narcotics so far this year than all of 2022. They say more than 123kg of narcotics have been taken off the streets, including 80kg of fentanyl in the tenderloin alone. We did talk to bart riders who say theyre always cautious on bart. Broadly, i think, you know, im from San Francisco. Traditionally so i generally feel safe traveling on bart daylight. Feel safe. Theres obviously certain parts of the city where you dont feel safe and you keep your wits about you. But in bart, its usually pretty. Theres people at the different stops and their Security Officers at the exits. So hobart says they are reviewing Surveillance Video from security cameras. As part of the investigation, officials have not yet commented on the condition of the victim. Time now at 735. Get ready for a detour. Do you live near or do plan to commute on i80 over the weekend . Thats because eastbound i80 is closed from highway four in hercules coming skyway and crockett for a repaving project. Detour takes you on highway four east to 680 northbound, and you will eventually rejoin 80 in fairfield, drivers can use 780 off 680 westbound to get to benicia and vallejo. This is the second weekend that caltrans has closed down that same portion of eastbound lanes and Contra Costa County. Our camera caught some of the video of the long line of dump trucks and some of the early roadwork that was being done late last night. Those lanes will remain closed until early monday morning in time for the commute. There will be one more closure of eastbound 80 on the weekend of august. The 18th. The westbound lanes will be closed for that same repaving project during the Labor Day Weekend. Well, it is back to school time again and Nonprofit Groups across the bay area are now working to make sure that children will be ready when they go back to the classroom. Lets go to james torres, whos live this morning from the San Mateo Event Center to tell us about a backpack giveaway thats happening later this morning. And james, such an important event. I know, getting every kid ready for school. It can be very expensive and hard for families. Yeah, sure. You know very well. Claudine, good morning to you here. Well, the cones, the tables are all set up here behind me just outside of the expo center here in san mateo. Volunteers will plan to give out more than 3000 backpacks this morning. Volunteers with samaritan house here. And as we inch closer to the first day of school, we know getting kids ready for school is completely top of mind. Thats why organizers all over the bay area are doing these types of giveaways. We saw another example of that in san jose earlier this week where volunteers gave out about 4000 backpacks, fully loaded with supplies, making sure kids have nothing to worry about when they go back to school. A bit of a relief that knowing that they programs like this exist. You know that we care about students education, because at the end of the day, they are the future. Okay well, kids in san mateo still have another week to enjoy summer vacation. But in larger School Districts like in oakland or san jose, classes there will start this coming week. Now, this giveaway, its a little different since covid volunteers have used this contactless drive thru format to pick up supplies and really it seems to benefit some parents. Its a much easier way to do these types of mask giveaways and parents only need to spend just a couple of minutes driving through the line, picking up the backpack supplies, sometimes even toys are often given away depending on the age of the kids as well. And then they get right back on their way, carrying on with whatever they need to do for the day. The event is set to start at about 9 00 this morning. Roll out this morning from san mateo. Im james torres, ktvu fox two news. All righty, james, thanks for that. Hes got a jacket on and if youre out and about probably a good idea if you live in brentwood say in an hour or two. Forget about it right. Exactly. Yes, definitely. One of those days for inland communities where during the Morning Hours and then the evening hours, those are going to be perhaps the best time of day unless you really enjoy the heat because its going to be on giving you a live look here over San Francisco. A little hard to see the skyline this morning. We have the clouds. We have a little bit of fog along the coastline with visibility low in some areas. And some patchy drizzle to go along with it. Meanwhile, visibility for most looking okay, but you notice that darker shade of gray right along the coastline over some of our hills as well. Half moon bay stuck with visibility about a mile and a quarter. So that morning drive along highway one, perhaps not too scenic, at least not at the moment. We do have still an onshore breeze, but it is weak. Fairfield reporting just ten miles per hour. So we do expect, again, a big warm up to come our way. Temperatures came up yesterday. Felt very nice for most right about seasonal. Today were going to be above average for this time of year. 60 degrees to start your morning in napa. We have upper 50s in hayward, upper 60s already in brentwood. So we talked about areas like brentwood, perhaps not needing a jacket later this morning. Perhaps you dont need one right now. Heres a look at the afternoon highs for today. 5 to 10 degrees, again above average, 94 for santa rosa, 69. In San Francisco, 76 in oakland, 95. Livermore 84. San jose. I guess to clarify, our coastline, our bayside communities a little above average. Its the inland cities that are going to be baking not only for today but as we get into tomorrow as well. If youre going to the as game, going to be gorgeous at the coliseum, you will need the sunblock. 76 degrees, mostly sunny skies and temperatures, winds expected to reach about 10 to 15mph or so. Meanwhile the afternoon highs on the peninsula for today, 84 in redwood city in the north bay, a very nice warm 86 in napa. And for the inner east bay, toasty 96 expected for antioch. I better look at the temperatures expected for tomorrow as we are looking at our trend to peak for tomorrow and then temperatures begin to cool on monday. Ill show you that in the extended forecast after the break. Well, the us women were just inches away from being knocked out for the First Time Ever in the group stages of the world cup. But the focus has to be on tomorrow. Coming up next, we are joined by the head coach of the oakland soul. Well, the knockout round of the womens world cup kicked off last night. It was easy work for spain. The team scored just 4. 5 minutes in a match against switzerland. The spaniards would score three more times in the first half and then add another in the second half. Final was 5 to 1. As they move on to the quarterfinals earlier this morning. One of the betting favorites to win it all also played its first knockout round. Japan taking on norway. Japan cruised through the group stage, winning all three matches, scoring 11 goals, allowing zero a lot of the same today, though, the match was tied at one one at the half. Japan score two second half goals to win. They advanced japan now waits for the winner of the us, sweden match up and the Us Womens National team will face a familiar foe in their next world cup match. The top ranked American Team opens a knockout stage round against third ranked sweden early sunday morning in australia. This will be the sixth consecutive world cup. The long time rivals have met the two time defending champions look to shake off these early tournaments struggles after failing to win its group for only the second time ever. I dont blame people for holding a High Standard on us, but yeah, the game is getting in increasingly better. The quality is x is just excel operating at such a fast at such a fast rate between 18 the 50th ranked team and the first ranked team. At the 2019 world cup in france, the us held on to beat sweden for a narrow one zero victory in the group finale, the us coach said this could be their most important match up to date. Its certainly is the most important game of the tournament and thats how we approach it because its a knockout stage and theres no room for mistake. So we have to be ready to we have to be ready to be our best in in this game. And because thats the only way we can be successful. Well sweden beat the us three nil the last time the two teams played at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, the us has never been eliminated before. The third place game, the last time they finished third was back in 2007. So lets talk more about this upcoming matchup with sweden with head coach of the oakland soul, jessica clinton. Good morning to you, coach. Thanks for joining us. Thank you. Good morning so as a coach prepping for this game amid the criticism and the close calls, you heard alex morgan kind of talking about the high expectations. Shes also said weve broken down what went wrong . How much of this is the mental game . You dont want a team to go in too confident, but you also dont want them to go in kind of off their game . Yeah i think thats one of the strengths of the Us Womens National team is their ability to be mentally tough. But we do have to remember it is a world cup, so every thing moving on from the group stage to the knockout stage, the mentality shifts. The group stage is when an and or earn points and be at the top of your group and advance where the knockout stages youre one and done. So you look to win to be able to survive and move on. But there have been a lot of people breaking down what has gone wrong, why this hasnt been kind of a cruising victory for spain and japan and teams that are winning really well. And weve got in our head the portugal game where you know that that ball hitting that post. I mean, we were inches away from not even having this discussion. When you have been watching this team play, obviously theres a ton of talent thats not really the question we know that, you know, carli lloyd, a former player, said lackluster, just playing as an individual instead of a team. What do you think when youve been watching them . I think that they are trying to find their groove right. Think that they are fantastic players thatm solve together. And portugal put together a really strong game plan that caused problems for the us and they werent able to solve it in time. The goalpost is 12cm, so i think we made it out of there just really thankful that those 12cm of a post saved us. Right. But i do think that they they are trying to find their way of playing together. I thought you saw a lot of great individuals play, but not as a team. So i think that theyll find that again sweet. They have to right. Or else. Or else were done or theyre out. And theyll do it. The fact that this is a rivalry game ten time, these teams have met at Major International tournaments, including every world cup since 2003. And to quote alex morgan yet again, shes like, you know, what happened against sweden is in the past. Thats the past. Well okay. But sweden has also won all of its group games, you know, in terms of the pressure of this type of game, not only to the pressure of everyone saying why arent you doing so well. They also have the pressure of now playing a team where people are picking sweden to win. Do you you know, what do you have a prediction for this this game . It will be i think it will be a close one. But i think we still have to remember that the us team is still number one in the world. So my prediction is going with the us. Yeah, i like that prediction too, you know. Can we talk about some of the things were dealing with too . Is Rose Lavelles out, had some yellow cards and certainly that was controversial but will not be playing for the us. But swedens captain is also fighting injuries. Didnt train yesterday in terms of where these teams are going in so were we talk about sweden being shiny but but they are facing some challenges in terms of when your captains not playing. That does change it as well. I think not having rose in the center mid will be a huge disruption to the play today and or tomorrow and theyll have to figure that out right. Will they move julie ertz up into the midfield . Will a cook come off of the bench and naomi and alana have some playing history together, which i think is also helpful moving into this next stage with sweden, they are powerful despite having not having their captain maybe as available as they want, but the players that they have are so powerful on set pieces. I mean, a lot of their goals over the past year have come from set pieces. Their style of play is very connected. They play a european style, but theyre also athletically can match the us. So i think even without the captain they will be very strong. They are forced to be reckoned with and overnight, i mean weve had a couple of games here that portugal game was in the middle of the night. Here we go again with all nighters to watch womens soccer. But the viewing numbers have been great for people who have said, you know, we want to cheer on the us team. You know, youve got the oakland soul getting getting everyone kind of hyped up around the bay area to come watch these games and get excited about soccer. How do you feel like the world cup even, you know, it stays exciting when youve got top ranked teams. And again, it picks up as we get in these knockout rounds does for the sport of soccer and specifically for womens soccer. I think its huge. I think that this world cup, everybody from a World Football standpoint, is are advocates for womens football. And i think thats huge. I think that that carries youre seeing it with some of these lower ranked teams of how well theyre doing in the world cup. Its because of our Us Womens National team, right . I think so. When everybody is looking at this specific game today and everybody viewing and watching, we are here and the excitement and the viewership is here because of what us soccer and the Us Womens National team has done for World Football. And i think thats a really amazing thing for our young players, even soul players that want to play in the future world cups, to be able to see, yeah, it is something and its certainly a big source of pride as we watch world cup. Well, head coach of the oakland soul, jessica clinton, we certainly appreciate your time and your insight as well. And a i know itll be a an all nighter for us tonight. Thank you is all nighter for me as well. Well, the round of 16 matches pick up again tonight right here on ktvu. You can catch the world cup live at six and the netherlands take on south africa at 645. And our 6 p. M. News will switch over to the ktvu plus. And then is it an Early Morning and we just call it a late night. Either way, stay up late, get up early with team usa. Coverage of that match begins at 1 a. M. With kickoff closer to two. And that will be also right here on ktvu. You might be really sleepy, rosemary, as we head and as long as its like a happy sleepy thats okay right . Yeah. I was going to suggest maybe we all come in at 2 a. M. Instead of our normal time tomorrow and maybe watch the game live. But i heard frankowski just say not happening. Good morning to you. A better look at this trend and what you can expect for your neighborhood coming up. Well, sounds good. Thank you, rosemary. Happening right now, once again, a stretch of interstate 80 and the east bay is shut down for the entire weekend for a major repave project. Caltrans has closed down the eastbound lanes of interstate 80 and Contra Costa County camera caught up. You check out the long line of dump trucks and some of the early roadwork being done. This was late last night. The closure stretches from highway four in hercules to the coming skyway in crockett. Those lanes will remain closed until early monday morning. Heres a map of that closure area, the main detour begins at highway four in hercules. Youll take highway four east, jump on 680, northbound, and eventually rejoin 80 in fairfield. If youre heading towards sacramento, drivers can use 780 westbound off 680 to get to benicia and vallejo. Caltrans says the single repaving project will accomplish two very big goals once this project is completed, motorists will experience a smoother ride along the interstate 80 along here in Contra Costa County. This will also extend the extend the lifespan of the roadway, which will mean minimizing the labor work for maintenance crews to go out there and make those repairs. In the long run, this is the second of three closures of that portion of the eastbound i80. There will be one more the weekend of august 18th and a couple of weeks westbound lanes will be closed for the same repaving project over the labor day holiday. Well, the chp says at least one person was killed on highway 101in san jose. Patrol officers responded to the report of a vehicle that was stopped on the left hand shoulder of the highway. This was near yerba buena road just after 1130 last night. Officers closed southbound 101 to the yerba buena road off ramp, and the chp called the coroner to the scene. We do not know the circumstances around the death, but the road has since reopened and one person died after being hit by a train in San Francisco. Caltrain says the person was struck in a tunnel this was between the 22nd street and bayshore stations last night. Train service was stopped in both directions from about 740 until a little after ten. The train reported engine problems and was pushed to the bay store station by a rescue engine around 11 last night. There were about 100 passengers on board that train, but no injuries were reported. Chp thinks road rage prompted a shooting on an east bay freeway. Officers say shots were fired on interstate 80 westbound near Central Avenue in richmond just before 130 yesterday morning. One person car was hit by bullets. The driver not injured anyone that might have information about that situation urged to give chp a call. Police in san jose are now investigating a double homicide. Well, happening today, the oakland as are set to host game one of a two game bay bridge series, and as fans are planning another reverse boycott. Once again, they will be leaning on the fans of their bay area rival for some support. Just last month, 40,000 people chanted sell the team at oracle park. When the two teams played in San Francisco. And since then we have seen similar fans support. When the as played colorado and los angeles. This weekend is the latest demonstration for fans to protest the teams plans to move to las vegas. Organizers are urging fans to pack the ballpark to send a clear message to the as owners. A new school year is about to begin, and Nonprofit Groups across the bay area are now working to make sure the kids are ready when they return back to class. Ktvu is james torres, live from the San Mateo Event Center to tell us about a big backpack giveaway thats happening in about an hour. James, good morning. Frank, good morning to you. Were talking about samaritan house here. Its something they put on every year , something you see every year kind of all across the bay area. These big giveaways, these massive efforts to make sure kids have nothing to worry about. When they entered that first day of school. Joining me this morning is the ceo of samaritan house, laura bennett. Thank you so much for being with us. Early this morning. Lets talk about this event. Were about an hour away from. Its starting. Weve already got cars lining up here. Whats the point of all of this . Whats this all about . Thanks so much for having us. Thanks for telling this story. I just want to say you know, the clients of samaritan house were adversely affected relative to the post pandemic and the disparities that they face are real struggles for them. So most of our clients are struggling with paying their rent in the most expensive county in the state. And so samaritan house comes together with our donors, our funders, our businesses, us to put together an event to make sure that the students who are going back to school have everything they need to start their Academic Year off successfully. So were really excited to be here this morning. About 3000 backpacks be given away. I see the tables set up split between elementary, middle and high school here. I imagine you get some feedback from some of these families and some of these kids. Youve been around here for about 12 years now. Whats kind of some of that feedback and some of those messages you get back mostly from the clients . Its sincere appreciation because we understand again, is there the minimum wage workers, the Skilled Labor in this community . We understand very much that like 85 of their salary is going to keep a roof over their head, never mind pay bills. So theyre really excited and grateful. Theyre really humble and very grateful for the opportunity to participate in this 3000 backpack today to again ensure that everybody starts their Academic Year off. Well, we say backpacks, that its really not just backpacks here. What exactly is every car , every family going to receive today . Great point. So the backpack is actually filled with every School Supply that you need. We have a Great Partnership with the School Districts in San Mateo County, and theyve told us everything their students need to be successful. So those backpacks are filled with every School Supply you could imagine calculators, sharpeners, pencils , notebooks, binders. Everythings in there and really beautifully. I mean, youve been with samaritan house for about 12 years. This is your first as the ceo. You know, whats that like kind of doing this in a different role . Oh, i am truly blessed to be the ceo of samaritan house. This is an Amazing Organization that does outstanding things with the Community Coming together to provide support for the folks that we serve who are living vulnerably, again, in the most expensive county in the state. And so i feel truly blessed and honored to be the ceo. Never mind. I have worked for this organization for 12 years right now. Well, miss laura bent, some awesome things you guys are doing here this morning. Thank you so much for joining us today. All this expected to kick off, as we said, a little more than an hour. An hour right at 9 00. More than 3000 backpacks and families all preparing for this next school year. Were live this morning from san mateo. Im james torres, ktvu fox two news. I think ive said this all week. When did you start school . It was usually after labor day. I feel like labor day was was the day, but now they start early and they get out. Like in may. In may . Well thats nice, but id rather pay the piper late earlier so you can have a longer summer because august, thats kind of the best month. Yeah. But by may have you ever seen a kid in may . Rosemary theyre like oh my, we got a lot of work done. But how can we be done . So you know, i mean, yeah, you got to give to get. But yeah, it is. It feels early. Yes i guess there are perks to either way for us personally because we do as frank mentioned, get some of our best weather late summer, even early fall. Itd be kind of nice to have sort of that time frame. I would agree. Giving you a live look here over a Beautiful Lake tahoe lake tahoe in the 40s this morning. But going into the 80s for the afternoon under mostly sunny skies. Meanwhile, for us, starting out, mostly cloudy skies along the coast. Inside the bay, the visibility is okay for most that to need to be on the highways. This morning, we are seeing some thicker fog right along the coast and Half Moon Bay, visibility less than two miles there. It has actually improved some, but well fluctuate over the next hour or two. The onshore breeze through fairfield, we always look to that breeze all the way through the delta. And whats happening at Travis Air Force base to give us an indication of whether or not its going to be helping us out in the afternoon. And. Well, no, we have a very weak onshore breeze expected for the weekend. And our temperatures inland are going to be quite hot in the north bay, 55 degrees in novato. Upper 50s to start your morning in walnut creek, 60 in livermore. Temperatures are very similar this morning compared to yesterday with the low clouds, the fog, the patchy drizzle out there. A look at some of the inner east bay where we are starting out with mostly sunny skies in pittsburgh as well as brentwood and those areas are already in the mid to upper 60s as we roll through the Morning Hours, we will begin to see those clouds peel back, it looks like by ten, 11 00, we are turning mostly sunny for our bayside communities as well as inland along the coast line. No such luck if you have plans to head to the beach for the weekend, do expect partly cloudy to mostly cloudy and Cool Conditions for most areas. Heres a look at the evening hours where those clouds, the drizzle along the coastline and moving back across the bay. If you have evening plans, we will be partly to mostly cloudy by about sunset for the east bay shore as well as parts of the peninsula. Afternoon highs for today coming up. Well over yesterdays highs, especially inland, 94 for santa rosa today. Thats well above average for you there. Beautiful, 76 in oakland. If you go into the as giants game midnineties in livermore in san jose, going to 84. A better look at the afternoon highs for today. The warming trend that will continue for tomorrow and the extended forecast after the break. All right. Thank you, rosemary. Well, that was fast. It just took one afternoon for the pac 12 conference to essentially disappear. Not many teams left, but stanford and cal are left. And well tell you what they have to say about that. Plus, a family wanted for nearly two dozen home breakins around lake tahoe. Finally busted. They have been captured with state has planned for them. Coming up next e 394 acres of redwood forest in Sonoma County. Its a one mile stretch that butts up to the russian river. The hope is to save these beautiful trees for generations to come. Here to talk about that agreement and the redwoods is jeff stump, who is the senior manager for Land Protection for save the redwoods. Jeff, good to have you with us. Good morning. Thanks for having me. Well tell us about the nearly 400 acres. Jeff and how this all came about. Well, this is a really exciting opportunity to protect, as you said, its almost 400 acres of redwood forest right on the banks of the russian river. The russian river, of course, is important for steelhead and trout, salmon and coho salmon and chinook salmon. So its a really neat opportunity to both protect the forest, to set it on a restoration track. Right this property has one of the largest and tallest trees in the county. Somehow it survived from logging. When that occurred in the 1870s. So its really exciting to protect this property and to be able to restore it so that future generations will be able to. Hoe trees . And i one specifically is at the clark tree, which is i guess over 2000 years old. Yeah estimates are that is approaching 2000 years old. Its hard to hard to say. The science hasnt been done, you know. One of the things the league brings to the table is really good science. So we hope to understand this tree and the surrounding grove a little more in the future. But its a giant. And this tree has survived the last 140 years. Its beloved in the community. It has really brought people together to support projects like this. And to provide the opportunity for save the Redwoods League to purchase the property by the end of september. And redwoods, of course, create great habitats for animals. Tell us about some of the animals you mentioned, some of the fish that it will benefit, but how about some of the animals in that area as well . Sure. Yeah. This this will be joining a contiguously protected stretch of land, both private and public, about 4000 acres. And thats important for things like the tree vole which which lives up in the canopies of these large trees. Theres also northern spotted owl that that live in these trees and breed and hunt in these beautiful riparian groves along the river. So this was an area that was probably 150,000 acres of old growth trees. And the opportunity here is to protect one of these last pieces and to really work with the science and towards restoration of the property. So again, at some point, the trees that surround the giant clark tree will be the same size and this is a long term forward thinking vision. Its a multi generation outlook for the property. So were talking about providing an opportunity for our childrens children in the future. Exactly. And eventually, will the land be turned over to Sonoma County to take care of . Yeah, thats thats the plan. So we were invited by the county to step in to try to work with the landowner to put this transaction together. The league has the ability to move very quickly. We have to tremendous support in the community, donors that help us raise money to be able to take a quick action. Right. Closing a transaction in just two months is challenging, but with the tremendous support of the community in our donors, well be able to do that. The league will then hold the property while we work with the county and to transfer it into permanent public ownership, where then the public becomes the stewards of the of this beautiful property. You know, with the advice from the league about the science and how to restore the property. Well, congratulations on great work and the agreement and saving these redwoods for hopefully thousands of years to come. We need them here right. Thank you. Thank you. All right, jeff, thanks so much. We appreciate you coming on this morning. All right. Lets talk weather. It is a 20, lets say good morning to rosemary on a kind of a slow start, unless youre inland, right . Yeah. So good morning, frank. Starting out with the overcast skies here in oakland along the peninsula, along the coastline, even seeing some fog and patchy drizzle out there this morning, we do have the onshore breeze, but its very weak. Its not going to help us out inland for today, nor tomorrow. We will begin to see changes come monday into tuesday. But for the weekend. And we are talking about a warm up the ridge of High Pressure from the Desert Southwest is going to be pulling in our direction and heating things up. Do expect those temperatures to peak tomorrow above 100 degrees for some of our hotter locations by tuesday, though, we begin to see a little bit of a trough here develop. And again, a cooler pattern beginning to settle in temperature is in and around the bay area right now. Very similar to yesterday, 56 to start your morning in novato, 59 in oakland, 60 degrees in livermore. Some folks enjoying the sunshine already beginning to see a rebound in. Wow. What a rebound were going to see especially inland for today where we are looking at 96 for antioch as well as concord into the north bay 94 in santa rosa. These numbers are 5 to 10 degrees above where we were yesterday. Meanwhile, around the bay, very enjoyable for most. We have 78 in hayward, a very nice 69 in the city of San Francisco. Heres a look at your extended forecast where temperatures are going to be even hotter for tomorrow. Midtoupper 60s for pacifica, as well as Half Moon Bay, mid to upper 80s for our warmer locations along our bayside communities. If you dont have ac, we know thats a very warm day. Meanwhile, our inland Community Find a Swimming Pool or go indoors as we have temperatures reaching about 100 degrees or so. Doesnt last though, thankfully. Temperatures begin to fall on monday. Still very hot, but not quite as bad. And then even better tuesday into wednesday, mid upper 80s expected for our inland cities 70s around the bay 60s at the coast back to you. Thank you, rosemary. Up next, former President Trump out on the campaign trail in South Carolina this morning. Despite the latest federal charges filed against him on thursday. Were live with a former federal prosecutor with more on how the latest case could imp t his campaign. Right announced they are leaving the pac 12, the legendary west coast powerhouse, now down to just 14. Locally, stanford at cal up north, oregon state, Washington State, uc berkeley. Students are very concerned about their schools athletic programs and businesses around the campus say the mass pac 12 exodus is really going to hurt their bottom line. Seeing them go. Its going to hurt her business a little bit. Its still going to be a fun time no matter who we play. But with those big teams going, its going to take a toll on us here. Well new this morning, members of an East Bay Church group who were trapped in niger are now on their way home. The 11 missionaries from the Cornerstone Christian church in antioch shared this picture on facebook. They were trying to get back home last week when the military seized power in a coup. The missionaries managed to board a plane at nigers main airport before those military leaders cut off their fuel. I really want to learn what deescalation strategies they employed out of all of those Police Officers. I wish one of them would have just took the time to say, hey, lets talk. Giving you a live look here at the oakland skyline. We are beginning to see the sun burn through some of that cloud cover there. Notice the building is a little bit more golden, so some sunshine bouncing off the buildings. We are still with the low clouds along the coast and inside the bay, patchy drizzle to start the morning. Visibility has been okay for most out there this morning along highway one, though, were seeing it very close to the ground and the visibility at Half Moon Bay, less than two miles. So an Early Morning drive along the coast is going to be perhaps a little complicated. Be careful out there. Meanwhile, the winds are very calm in the north bay. Just a very light breeze through the delta. Not going to help us out for the weekend. On the stump today in South Carolina, campaigning, marking one of his First Campaign events since being arraigned thursday for his alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 president ial election. It is the third time this year the former president has been arraigned on federal charges. And with some insight, we turn to carlos singh, who is a former federal prosecutor and a san jose state lecturer. Carlos great to have you with us. Thank you so much. Unprecedented, Uncharted Waters. We were talking before we went on camera, just your reaction to the last 48 hours. Sure the special prosecutor, jack smith, brings a particularly strong case in this one and also in the florida case. But focused on this one. He says hes charging that on the one sense as a whole that mr. Trump conspired to defraud the United States. And thats a charge that federal prosecutors are very familiar with. Ive charged that dozens and dozens of times when i was in the us Attorneys Office and then he charges another conspiracy to obstruct justice in the sense of obstructing congress from doing its constitutional duty in the Electoral College to then select a president. And then finally, he brings a charge from the civil rights era. That was excuse me, the civil war era in the 1870s, a charge where its a its defrauding or preventing people from counting their votes. And or having their votes counted. And so, for example, a lot of in the civil rights era, a lot of klux klan areas were preventing a newly freed slaves from from from voting. And so thats the basis of that charge. And he he expands it. Now he applies it in the larger sense to the United States. And here he is out back on the campaign trail. This is serious right . It is. It is. And particularly one thing to point out among many, but just one, for example, its just how much intent, evidence that jack smith brings in this case, because in every criminal case, the prosecution has to prove intent. And in this particular case and intent, it can be difficult to prove. But in the sense the way you prove intent is with circumstantial evidence, because intent is formed in the mind. So how does someone know that another person intended. Well, they intend it and circumstantially, through their words and their acts. And so if you apply it in this sense, mr. Trump, obviously has spoken publicly about this in fact, theres an allegation that he indicated once after the election, he says allegedly can you believe that i lost to this guy and then many staff people in the white house, administrative cabinet leader and congressman and state officials, all indicated and told him that he had lost the election and nonetheless, he sought to, as jack smith allege, is the purpose of this conspiracy was to steal the election and retain office and retain power. Lets talk about special counsel jack smith. He has told mr. Trump that you need to be quiet. You cant talk about the evidence in this case. You cant put it on social media. Hes also been told to stay away from some of the witnesses in the case. But some of those witnesses are part of his entourage. How do your reaction . Yes, he has. And its not surprising that that hes done it. He did it in the mar a lago case in the southern florida. Hes asked for that. And the reason is that he mr. Trump, has in other instances and even in the new york case for bragg, hell make fun of individuals. He calls peoples names the idea is to try to start litigating this case in the public before the case actually goes to trial. And jack smith is concern that the jury pool of potential jurors may be affected. Also witnesses may be intimidated. And so thats largely a reason as to why hes seeking this kind of order. I dont want to play the what if game, but what if mr. Trump has found guilty on any of these charges during the campaign . How will that affect his ability to run . And if by chance he wins to become the next president and then is found guilty of any of these charges, thats were treading on new waters. Thats new territory. Yes no president has ever been charged a federal crimes. And so thats a new water. But if he gets convicted and i do believe that jack smith is going to be asking for a trial between, say, november and march, because he wants to get this case done. So sooner. And thats largely the reason, i think, that he hasnt charged the others their unindicted coconspirator, the six other individuals, five lawyers and the political consultants. So he wants to get there fast. And so if mr. Trump is convicted during the campaign, its not going to prevent them from continuing. Its not going to prevent them from being nominated by the republican party. Presumably and its not. And even if he wins the constitution is silent and doesnt say much about someone serving as president while having been convicted at trial, even though the case has been done, because he would have appeal rights. And so but what would happen . What could happen . A couple of things could happen. And that is that he could pardon himself, though thats a little bit Uncharted Waters two, for example, Richard Nixon resigned office and as president , he didnt pardon himself or took care of this. So. Exactly for took care of that. And so theres a thin person of evidence that president dont pardon themselves, but its not really an example. The other thing, too, though, is that he could order his attorney general to dismiss the charges and so then the federal cases would go away. However the state case ist federalism form overnment is the state cases in new york. And if charged in georgia, those would continue that pardon power would not extend to those state cases. And so even if you were president , those cases could continue. So still jeopardy, even if elected president. A lot to take in and a lot of content for your students at san jose state, i guess is well, weve got to leave it there. Carlos saying thank you very much for your insight. We really appreciate it. My pleasure. Thank you. Already, were just hours away from the big match. Were talking soccer, the us and sweden. How to watch the high stakes game. Happening now, once again, a stretch of interstate 80 in the east bay has been shut down for the entire weekend for a major repaving project. Caltrans has closed down the eastbound lanes of interstate 80 and Contra Costa County. Our camera crew took some videos, some of the roadwork taking place late last night, shortly after caltrans shut down the freeway. The closure stretches from highway four and hercules to the coming skyway and crockett. Those lanes will remain closed until early monday morning. Heres a map of that area. The main detour begins at highway four in hercules. So youll have to take highway four eastbound jump on 680 northbound, and eventually rejoin 80 in fairfield. Drivers can use 780 westbound off 680 to get to benicia and vallejo. Caltrans says the single repaving project will accomplish two important goals once this project is completed, motorists will experience a much smoother ride along the interstate 80. Along here in Contra Costa County. This will also extend the extend the lifespan of the roadway, which will mean minimizing the labor work for maintenance crews to go out there and make those repairs. In the long run. This is the second of three closures on that portion of eastbound i80. There will be one more in a couple of weeks, the weekend of august the 18th, westbound lanes will be closed for the same repaving project over the Labor Day Weekend. Well, the chp says at least one person was killed on highway 101in san jose. Patrol officers responded to a vehicle that was stopped on the left hand shoulder of the highway near yerba buena road, just after 1130 last night. Officers closed southbound 101 to the yerba buena ramp. The chp then called a coroner to the scene. Now we still dont know at this point the circumstances around that death, but the road has since reopened and one person is dead after being hit by a train in San Francisco. Caltrain says that person was struck in the tunnel between the 22nd street and bayshore stations last night. Train service stopped in both directions from about 740 until a little after ten. The train did report engine problems and it was pushed to the base station by a rescue engine around 11 last night, there were about 100 passengers on board that train. No injuries on board were reported. The chp thinks road rage prompted a shooting on an east bay freeway. Officers say shots fired on interstate 80 westbound near Central Avenue in richmond. This happened about 130 yesterday morning, one person car was hit by bullets, but the driver was not injured. Anyone with more information about what happened, asked to contact the chp. Police in san jose are now investigating a double homicide. Thats after the bodies of a woman and a child were found inside of an apartment. The deadly shooting happened yesterday morning. So brentwood, 70 degrees. Its just about perfect outside your door right now. That is going to change. Getting into the afternoon, especially if you dont like the heat low 60s in oakland. Lets shift to the inner east bay where we have 65 in danville, 62 north dublin, 634, and another area of dublin for you there, afternoon highs yesterday compared to today. We are looking at temperatures warming anywhere from 5 to 10 degrees for our inland cities, 94 for santa rosa today, 95 in livermore. Meanwhile oakland enjoying 76. If youre going to the coliseum for the as giants game there today and 84 for san jose. A better look at the afternoon highs for today and the rest of the weekend including that heat up inland and the extended forecast coming after the break. Well, this is the final weekend hit the slopes. What can i tell you about the last few hours that youve got left . Yeah, no jacket required there. And thousands of students getting ready to go back to school here in august. Right after the break, were live with a stanford childs six ecologist discussing how parents can help their kids prepare for the tough transition from summer break back to the classroom im saving with liberty mutual, mom. They customize your Car Insurance so you only pay for what you need. You could save 700 dollars just by switching. Ooooh, let me put a reminder on my phone. On the top of the pile oh. Like im the most fabulous thing youve ever seen . Exactly. Ill take em. The International Council of Shopping Centers found that parents are expecting to spend about 969 this year in backtoSchool Shopping because of rising costs. School supplies showed the biggest jump in price of 18 from last year to 168. Seven out of ten parents surveyed say they are planning to shop at Discount Stores this year. Thats actually a 5 increase from last year. And back to School Shopping, not the only thing parents are doing ahead of the new school year. Parents and children getting ready to start a new routine as summer comes to an end. And with that, in comes some issues, including separation anxiety, especially when youre talking about younger children. So lets talk about how to better prepare for a smooth back to school transition. We have stanford childrens psychologist dr. Scharf. Again. Dr. Fetterman, thanks so much for joining us. Thank you for having me this morning. So a smooth back to school routine. Is there any such thing . I mean, i feel like it is one of those points in time that you just kind of got to prepare that its going to take a minute to get back into this space. We know it, but every year the kids get into a different grade. Parents have different stressors and the routines are all messed up from the summer. I couldnt agree more. And this is so timely because as as the kids are getting back to school, parents here at stanford childrens are asking all about this. So across all age groups, just as you said , we recommend starting to prepare early with excitement and warmth and thinking about just like a caregiver whos returning back to work after maybe a long vacation, something theyve liked unstructured to do, something that they like a little less. The transition takes time and the more prepared you are mentally, physically, logistically, the better prepared you are to navigate those natural bumps that we expect that dont mean anything bad. So do we not give ourselves enough time for it . I mean, if you talk about all the kind of domino effect from this that can add to the stress of our children, right. We think, okay, were going to get them to backpack, were going to get them to school. Were going to try to get them to bet on time. But our stressors, our commute to work is longer. We have to leave earlier. Everything is different. We have to get back into routine. You know, parents sometimes do have the ones who are still making lunches and doing all those things. Do we give it the credit it deserves for in terms of the mental and logistical preparation . I think, you know, it really depends on the age. You know, older children who maybe are more eager to go back to school or just kind of know the know the drill. Thats okay. Maybe youre focusing more on the sleep schedule and getting some food in and screen time. But for younger children who are going to school for the first time, a new school or maybe more reticent, expect a longer preparation time to really allow their brain to take in all the new information. Then it takes repetition for those kids. So that could be like a week before school versus like the transition is once the first day of school and were now into the second week of school. Like where do we where do we start and where are we hoping to have some some, you know, ease . I would recommend really starting several weeks before for younger kids, i would start i know were already past that, but like too late. Midsummer would be ideal with like reading books about school. But if you havent started, thats okay too, to just start now. And so i think for sleep schedule starting more than a week in advance, or at least a week in advance of setting, whats their new wake up time so that body can adjust, the brain can adjust really helpful doing that back to School Shopping a week or two, several weeks in advance. It just helps prime from talking about school to actually taking preparation steps. And then even in the week or two, you may have parents and caregivers may have now, you know, drive by the new school to talk about whos going to do drop off, whos going to do pickup practice, the walking routine, practice, you know, going to the playground, seeing the school, all of that. While time is really helpful, its more about how much youre getting there, getting that exposed to it, making sure theyre having multiple opportunities to either talk about it with mom and dad and caregivers, go to the local and to think about it because kids and adults alike need repetition for that really to sink in for their brain and their body in this big transition. Yeah, those are big on the sleep routines, making sure that were doing it at the right time, even the week before or a couple of weeks a summer. I think those younger kids to really benefit the routine. But i think the older kids do as well. And i think, is there something to help parents, too, with, you know, lets say theyre starting high school. Thats overwhelming to start high school. But then sports start and then this starts that that that getting used to that even when you get them back into that routine, there are going to be a lot of things up ahead. How do you best prepare them and yourself for getting in that space . I think talking about it in advance of just that, you know, this is a big time of transition. And ultimately these transitions are fantastic for their long term growth. Maybe thats not the big first thing you share with them, but knowing as a parent that if theyre, you know, if theyre bumps with all these transitions, if they just got used to going to school and now all of a sudden the schedule changes again or we dont know x, y or z, kind of holding in your mind as the caregiver, thats okay. These are important learning moments of how to navigate that. Life is unpredictable. We can only expect so much. And so how would we know that . Do we overdo it . I i think, you know, wanting to let them know what to expect, but also letting them kind of sail their own ship a little bit. We want caregivers to be that lighthouse where theyre guiding the child without jumping in and sailing it. So finding that sweet spot of telling them the expectation, but then also being like this is a transition. This can be hard. And i know you can do this. I know you can navigate it and holding that confidence really models it for the child and helps them build their own internal voice. Those teens that like, okay, mom and dad and caregiver are confident i can do this. Its hard, but i can handle it. Yeah, what i love from that is i take away all your positivity and making that we sure we frame this in that this is great. It doesnt mean great always is smooth, but this is great. And i think that will certainly help as we all navigate this together. We have to leave it there, dr. Finnegan, but i appreciate you joining us this morning on mornings on two and giving us some just good advice. It feels like we should be all starting a couple of weeks ago, but well start as soon as we can. Exactly. You know, theres no nothings too late to start with. Thank you so much for having me this morning. Thank you. All right. Time now is 920. Rosemary i know this back to school. It always sneaks up on people in the summer. Like you feel like, okay, ive just now gotten to used to not having to be somewhere and then were like, oh wait, here it is again. Yes, yes, yes. So many parents happy school is getting going back into session. But yeah, getting your children adjusted. I know the ones that my age got to get them up earlier because theyre used to sleep in well into the late Morning Hours. Heres a look at a beautiful San Francisco we cant see the tops of those buildings, at least in some areas. But the low clouds have been lifting. And eventually well pull back. High pressure is strengthening from the southwest in time for the weekend, going to bring a heat spell thats going to last just a few days before we knock those temperatures down. Once again, heres a look at the futurecast this morning. You can see that that dome there, the clockwise motion moving around it stretching in our direction. We also have a ridge off the pacific here over the pacific, i should say. By monday and tuesday, it begins to shift a little bit, pushed aside by this trough that is developing over the west. And its that trough that will help to cool things down, getting into the days ahead. Game day culture at berkeley is pretty big. I think it definitely will be affected because they wont be playing like the same teams as they used to. Well, they wont be playing arizona, Arizona State and utah. They were welcomed into the big 12 yesterday, becoming the latest universities to flee the pac 12. That news followed reports that both oregon and washington also announced their exit onto the big ten. Now, earlier friday morning, both cal and stanford released statements yesterday afternoon following the departures of oregon and washington. Stanford saying in part, our primary focus at this time is analyzing the available options and making the best decision for stanford student athletes. And uc berkeley officials had a similar tone together. The chancellor and the Athletic Director evaluating a variety of options that will ensure student athletes can continue to thrive. Well, thank the tank. The South Lake Tahoe bear, notorious for home invasions, has been captured and is going to be relocated to colorado. San francisco supervisor matt dorsey is urging the mayor to shift funding from proposed wellness hubs to jail based treatment and recovery services. Dorsey said in a letter to mayor london breed that nearly 19 million budgeted for Harm Reduction would be better used to care for detainees arrested for drug use. The wellness hub plan called for six small sites across the city that would include supervised consumption of drugs. But dorsey says its been narrowed to a single site in the south of market neighborhood. Dorsey says he supports supervised consumption sites, but added, quote, it makes little sense to me that we would fund in staff limited services for voluntary drop ins by drug users at a time when we are endeavoring to engage with an involuntary population of drug users whose lawless conduct suggests a far more acute need for life saving care and robust Overdose Prevention services. San Francisco Police say officers have seized more narcotics this year than in all of 2022.
