Like a cooler, right . I like it. Yes all right. Yes. Cool. Has settled in and i think its here for the bulk of the week. We are seeing a pretty big fog bank again, not as much drizzle. So far. 50 on the temps, 56 to 59. So we have fog, pretty good breeze and maybe some tropical clouds might play into the forecast highs today. 6070s and mainly low 80s. All right. Sal is here. Hes going to tell you and me. I hope its quiet out there. Yes things are light and the san mateo bridge, were going to start there because it looks good. Yesterday, we had a tough day on that san mateo bridge. And today it is much better. You can see traffic is flowing. Well and hopefully itll stay that way. This is a look at the bay bridge toll plaza that looks very good getting into San Francisco. Go at 401. Lets get back to the headlines. All right, sal, thank you. New this morning, fast moving wildfires are burning. Homes and forcing people to evacuate on the Hawaiian Island of maui. About a thousand acres have already burned near the town of lahaina. And at least 80 people were evacuated around there. And there are more evacuees as residents in the area actually went into the ocean to escape the flames. The fires have even caused Power Outages in parts of that island down. Trees and power lines have made it difficult for firefighters to help those people in trouble. Hurricane doris, strong winds are fueling the fire and causing it to spread and emergency problems has been issued for that area. Investigators in San Francisco are still looking for the cause of a fire at a three story Apartment Building. It started at 830 last night on the second floor of the building in the inner sunset neighborhood. The flames then spread to another building and to a Hardware Store. No one was injured, but tenants were evacuated and forced to stay elsewhere during the night, the owner of the Hardware Store was watching the giants game when he received a text message about the fire. I gave us the text and jumped up and drove down here and got the saw the news and saw the windows busted out. 100 firefighters rushed to the scene. The fire chief said the response was needed because the area is densely populated and many buildings were involved. We want to make sure that we have enough firefighters for each building and to find the fire and to be able to extinguish it. So we needed that. Many firefighters. Theres also some really complicated construction in the back where all the buildings touch. It took firefighters almost two hours to get the flames under control. The people who are displaced are being helped by the Northern California red cross. An investigation found. San francisco supervisor sharman walton harassed a sheriffs cadet. Now, it happened last year at city hall as Surveillance Video showed walton confronting the cadet after being asked to take off his belt at a city hall metal detector. The cadet, amari butler told ktvu that walton repeatedly used a racial slur and threatened him, the chronicle reports the citys Human Resources director sent a memo to butler saying, quote, a further review supports a finding that walton behaved in violation of the citys harassed free workplace policy. Our time is 403. An Investigation Continues in oakland, where two men were killed and two separate shootings. The first shooting was yesterday afternoon around 215 at the boat launch at the Martin Luther king jr regional shoreline. Then 15 minutes later, Oakland Police rushed to the lake merritt bart station. Thats where another man had been shot and killed. Amber lee has more on the gun violence. Te sight of police activity, crime scene tape and a black tent covering the body of a man killed in a shooting just outside an entrance to the lake merritt bart station unsettles passengers. Bart police say it happened shortly after 230 tuesday afternoon. Its in the middle of the day, which is super scary. Im just shocked. Its terrifying. Police say both the victim and suspect were not bart passengers. We dont believe that this has any connection to the actual bart station or the trains. This occurred near the bus zone at the lake merritt bart station. Officers say they searched the area and surveillance cameras helped them track down a suspect and take him into custody. 90 minutes after the shooting, investigators did not say where they found the suspect, nor would they say if they recovered the gun. People say a homicide in broad daylight in an area that sees a lot of foot traffic, gives them pause right there. Youre about to get on board. It kind of makes you think youre like, you know, kind of make you feel unsafe a little bit. You know, there is fear and frustration over ongoing gun violence and crime in oakland just before the incident outside the bart station, there was another deadly shooting around 215 tuesday afternoon. East Bay Regional Park District officers responded to a shooting at the boat launch at the Martin Luther king jr regional shoreline. Its next to Oakland International airport on doolittle drive. Officers say they found a man who had been shot. He died at the scene. It worries me because the crime level in oakland seems to be increasing and i really hope something is done about it. We shouldnt have to deal with this. I think we definitely need a police chief or some kind of leadership. Something needs to be done for the city of oakland. Amber lee ktvu fox two news. Our time now 405. Oakland mayor chang tao focused on dealing with Violent Crime in her august newsletter. The mayor says oaklands robbery intervention operation is aimed at dramatically reducing the number of robberies and that Oakland Police will conduct several enforcement operations aimed at known robbery suspects. The mayor says he also wants to eliminate the lag time between when a crime occurs and when the investigation begins. Today is the deadline for veterans exposed to harmful chemicals to register for federal backdated benefits. Now, this is in order to get those benefits retroactive to the date the pact act was signed one year ago. Congresswoman nancy pelosi took part in a roundtable discussion in San Francisco urging veterans to take advantage of the pact act or stands for promise to address comprehensive toxic. It provides expanded benefits to former military members who were exposed to burn pits. Agent orange and other toxic substances on the battlefield. We leave no soldier behind when they come home. We should leave. No veteran behind. And thats just the way it is. The main message that we want veterans to understand is continue to file your claims, put your intent to file in even after august 9th, the va is still offering a year back pay from the date that you put in your intent to file. Now, the pact act expands the list of illnesses covered and no longer require veterans to prove their illness is tied to working around toxins. Our time is 407, one year ago today, the 280 million chips and science act took effect here in the us and east bay. Congresswoman barbara lee toured the alcock sister homes. Its a Semiconductor System in her oakland congressional district. Congresswoman lee wants to help the company by getting funding from the chips act. That company manufactures chips used in almost every modern digital device. It is able to move energy from one point to the next faster than any material ever. And thats what we make. I believe in bringing dollars home to my congressional district. We pay a lot of taxes. A lot of the innovation and a lot of the creativity, a lot of development, a lot of manufacturing should take place here in oakland. Now, the specially made diamonds used are the most thermally conductive material on earth. It helps these data chips withstand extreme temperatures last longer and work better. College students or recent graduates who are interested in politics, have an opportunity to see how the system works. Here in the bay area, state Assembly Member mia bonta, who represents oakland in the east bay, is looking for interns for the fall. The unpaid internships offer a chance to learn about the legislative process and work directly on important local issues. The main highlight that so many of the students really enjoy is the opportunity to work on a legislative proposal where they tackle, they work to tackle a Community Based issue, and they get to present their findings to the Assembly Member. Now students can focus on a wide range of interests such as public safety, transport or environmental justice. Our time now 409, a Record Number of freshmen have been admitted to the university of california. More than 157,000 students have been accepted across the nine undergraduate campuses. All right. 409 is the time i will say, Steve Paulson, youre asking for more. I when i opened up the windows this morning, significant difference from yesterday morning. It is much cooler. Mine were open all day and all night. Started last night. Yes, it was very nice. It was nice. The cooler has settled in and we went from the hot. That didnt take long and right on down we went. Boy, we dropped big time yesterday and its going to stay here for the rest of the week and probably into the weekend as the way its kind of looking here with only subtle changes, low clouds, sunny and breezy in town, fog, sun, not much changes here and more of the same into friday. If theres any jump on the temps, it would be on the weekend. But one of the forecast models already backed off on that 50 on the temps close bigger fog bank north and south again but its even bigger to the north than we had yesterday. A couple of systems marching into the Pacific Northwest have knocked the high out of their tropical clouds, though. Well have to keep an eye on remains of a tropical system. Midtown Residents Association and fair meadow neighborhood associations dinee started a petition and is a tran two private parties, so its really hard for the city to get involved. But were also looking to recommend mediation. If the two parties are willing to do so. Share holdings llc did talk to ktvu, saying the eviction isnt just about one late payment and also said in part, weve been having problems with mike continuously over the last 15 years. Mike has habitually paid rent late, bounced many checks and not paid rent checks, only to ignore calls made to him to pay. Eventually he would pay late. The rent kept going up during the remodel during the covid, it just kept going up and up. So i dont think another restaurant would want to come in here and pay this much rent. Now, while lou says he doesnt have a plan b, if hes evicted, but he does have an attorney to help fight the eviction, sher says he doesnt have plans to develop this property.
