The risk of fire. This was the scene near livermore fire crews battled a vegetation fire in unincorporated Alameda County along Collier Canyon road. Nobody was hurt and there was no damage. Cal fire says this is a reminder to stay vigilant. We dont want to use the calm and mild conditions that weve experienced this year so far as a kind of false reading on the vulnerability that were actually in. Jonathan cox with cal fire said theyre already preparing for what could be a dangerous week for fires in the bay area. We dispatch resources based on the danger for that, that exact moment. Our priority is to keep all fires or 95 of the fires at ten acres or less. And that really comes down to an aggressive initial attack. Cal fire says they use a two pronged approach to fight fires. As we can bring in additional staffing based on the conditions. So as we start to look at areas that are going to have lightning or extreme heat or potentially wind , we will staff Additional Resources in those locations. They also use a strong initial attack utilizing californias fire air force, which is the largest in the world, to attack the flames from above and back staff to ensure all local Fire Departments remain fully staffed at all times. But cox says weather conditions can create perfect storms for large, dangerous fires. Firefighting is very ineffective when youre up against 80 mile an hour winds and really at that point its just a Mass Evacuation until we get substantial rain this fall and winter, the fire conditions are elevated across the state. Cox told me. There are some things that you can do to make sure that youre ready for fire season number one is to have an evacuation plan in place for you and your family. Number two is to have proper Defensible Space around your property. And number three is to get out early when those evacuations are given in the newsroom, im Bailey Ocarroll, ktvu fox two news. Thank you, bailey. Crews in the south bay had to fight a wildfire in the san jose foothills saturday night. A pga camera shows the fire in this time lapse video.
