Parents had to wait outside. There was a shooting on campus. They werent shooting at any particular person, but there was a gun found on campus. We heard a gunshot, but it was like a little faint, like it was far. So we werent tripping. And then boom, boom, it was two more. And then everybody started running. And im just surprised that this happened, especially to my school. I didnt think this would happen. Investigators say they did recover a gun on the campus. They arrested two people, but police wouldnt say if those people arrested were students or not. School district Officials Say they are taking another look at School Security protocols. She worked as a supervisor at a Mortgage Company to support her family. Now there is disbelief that she was shot and killed. She appears to be a victim of Domestic Violence. Very shocking to know that like i didnt really get to say goodbye and like ill never see her again on saturday morning around 7 00. Police respond to a 911 call and found kelly dead in the garage of her home. Investigators say she was shot at least twice by her boyfriend, Aubrey Charles avery, family members who were home at the time say the suspect and the victim had argued and went downstairs to the garage. All of a sudden, my grandma and my dad heard 2 or 3 gunshots or three gunshots. And so my grandma went downstairs and my grandma found her daughter murdered. Police say they tracked the suspect down about a half mile from the home and that he tried to run away. They arrested him and say they recovered the gun. He used at the San Mateo CountyDistrict Attorneys Office says six hours earlier, the victim had called 911, reporting that the suspect had threatened her with a gun. But when police arrived, she and the suspect denied there was a gun. There was no evidence of any Domestic Violence between them. She didnt appear injured. She wasnt bleeding wrong. So there was no basis for the police to make an arrest. The das office says its common that victims deny there is a problem. Families who have lost loved ones to the fentanyl crisis are pushing for a California Ballot Initiative aimed at drug dealers. A group of parents with children who overdosed filed papers with the state Attorney Generals Office. The measure would require the courts to issue the same notice to fentanyl dealers. That is given to people convicted of driving under the influence. Do it again and you could face murder charges. Dealers would also get a new 10 to 12 Year Prison Sentence if their drugs ended up killing someone. Together supporting this ballot initiative, we can bring hope to stop the flow of this deadly drug. As well as the demand. Ballot organizers say they are turning to voters because of inaction by state lawmakers on the topic. The proposal needs more than half a million signatures to get on the 2024 ballot. Our time now, 407. A bill making its way through the California Legislature is aimed at making the overdose drug narcan even more affordable to help reduce the number of fentanyl overdoses. Now, Assembly Bill 1060 would require private insurers and medical to pay the cost of narcan out of pocket expenses for the nasal spray, which reverses opioid overdose. Iis would be limited to 10 a package. The bill was introduced by east bay Assembly Member liz ortega, who says making narcan affordable is key to saving lives. It would also cut the cost for the state. When youre looking at how much were spending in emergency room visits and again, overdoses, were currently spending 26 million. So ab 1060 would actually save the state money, save private insurers money and save lives by making sure that a family only spends 10 to, you know, buy this medication. Now, major pharmacies are soon expected to begin selling narcan over the counter. Assembly member ortega says its not enough to make sure its accessible. It also has to be affordable to actually save lives. And now her bill is headed to the full senate for a vote. San francisco supervisor has approved a more than 267 million settlement with walgreens and two pharmaceutical companies over the companys role in the opioid crisis. The court found that companies falsely and misleadingly marketed opioids as being safer than they actually were. Our time now 409. This is a live view of sfo from our camera there. And United Airlines says all of its operations are back to normal. Yesterday morning, united issued a full ground stop of its planes that affected every United Airlines plane still at a us airport, even planes where passengers were already on board. Now united says the problem was caused by a malfunctioning Computer System that made it difficult for airline dispatchers to communicate with jets on the ground. This affected everything from jets, and it just landed to those planes waiting to take off as well as planes at a gate loading passengers on one united flight at sfo had to be canceled. 50 other flights were delayed. The airline says there were 300 flight delays around the country. Passengers said that kind of problem affects them directly. It also makes traveling less appealing when things like this happen. Its like, what do you do . What can we do about this . Who do we call . My concern would more be just the amount of cost thats involved with it and having enough planes and everybody ready to go. Basically to take everyone, everywhere, especially with the holidays. Now Airline Industry analysts are pointing out thanksgiving Holiday Travel starts in just ten weeks, weeks from now. Now, the nationwide ground stop is especially a cause of concern for one bay area lawmaker. What im concerned of is this pattern because of that you have reported on even before the southwest glitch and then all the near misses weve had coming out of covid. Thats the concern, is that the system isnt operating the way we expect it to. Now, east bay congressman Mark Desaulnier says there has been continuing problems ever since southwest airlines. Huge meltdown last december. Time now is 410 and hopefully we dont have any weather issues to worry about for anyone flying in and out of sfo and our airports. Not that i see. Not here. We have a bigger fog bank, though, thats for sure. And its going to be a little cooler today, today and tomorrow after that will start a little warm up here. But 5060s on the temps, not a roaring breeze, but theres a bigger fog bank by far. I mean, this is at least double what we had yesterday at this time. So i expect it to get even, even more widespread as we head towards six and 7 00 50s on the temps. Remember had some upper 40s yesterday and mid 40s to the north but sonoma is at 51. Novato is in there lagunitas right at 50. Fairfax and anselmo so there are some cooler ones but we are running a teeny bit warmer. 40s in the mountains. Truckee south. Lake tahoe mammoth at 44. Little systems just kind of clipping us here. I mean theyre not really lows, but theyre little spins in the atmosphere. But thats all it takes the kind of enhancing everything. So today, tomorrow about the same. A little cooler bring temperatures down the high in the Desert Southwest will start to build, start to build. Thatll allow inland temperatures to begin to warm up. It looks like saturday, sunday, monday. Then they start to come right back down again. So were in a quiet pattern for us. In september, just day to day changes. Today. Itll be a cooler change. And so sunny inland, breezy, cooler for all today. Fog will be slower to burn back, especially for the coast. So 60s, 70s and 80s. Today you guys. Thank you, steve. Later today, Senate Minority leader Mitch Mcconnell is expected to talk about his Health Concerns when he meets with republican senators. Now earlier this year, senator mcconnell fell ill and hit his head and suffered a concussion. There has been speculation that the freezing spells are a result of that concussion. Well, there is a call for action from some danville residents. That town endured more than 30 Power Outages this summer and pga addressed some of those Community Concerns at a town hall meeting. Ktvu Jana Katsuyama was there and tells us what the worried residents are saying. The lights were on in the town of danville tuesday, but the residents and town leaders say there in the dark as to why theyve had 41 pga Power Outages just this summer. Many restaurants say its been a nightmare for business. We have people here with food in front of them and lights just go out and we cant even ring them up. And its embarrassing. The town council sent a letter to pga in midaugust, and on tuesday, the Power Company responded and sent the Vice President for the bay area, Aaron Johnson, to a public meeting. He started with an apology. The level of reliability that youve seen in in and around the danville area over the over the summer has not been acceptable. Johnson says one possible reason for the outages is that two substations that supply power to danville had broken equipment in june. And all those customers were diverted to a third substation with that heavier loading and all three circuits. We did have some equipment give out. Another reason he said, is the eps or enhanced powerline safety settings, which are designed to shut off power to a line if a tree animal or other failure is detected. Because of the work that we were doing in this area, we had a lot of circuits connected together and it made it harder for us to isolate those high wildfire areas into small pockets. So we put in a request with pga to get specific data on danville outages. They told us their records show the danville area had 31 outages from june through august. In 22 outages. Crews determined the cause was equipment failure, animal contact or vegetation. In nine of the outages, the cause is unknown or still under investigation. Tyson residents say they want solutions. This has been a trail of broken promises. Ive heard nothing but excuses. Pga says they have taken some action, including vegetation reduction, replacing overhead equipment and about a half mile of underground equipment. Theyre also working on a reliability plan for 2024. And the mayor of danville says he hopes that will include some special protections for the downtown area of danville. Reporting from danville, Jana Katsuyama ktvu.
