Two other people intervene in the carjackers, then drove out without taking the victims car. The Good Samaritans reportedly work at a Karate School across the street at Union Members working for Asian Health Services in oakland voted this week to approve a new three year contract. Now it includes wage increases of an average of more than 21. It also includes expanded Health Care Coverage for families more flexible vacation and paid time off. The agreement came after eight months of negotiations as some nonprofits in San Francisco say theyre on the brink of shutting down because of overdue contracts with the city. A group of 30 different nonprofits, including the Housing Rights Committee of San Francisco and the budget justice coalition, say they have agreements with the city, but have not been paid. They blame the mayor, saying she has not released the funds that were finalized in the citys budget. They say its an ongoing issue that has happened multiple years in a row. Weve reached out to mayor breeds office for comment. We are still waiting to hear back city workers in San Francisco can once again force people off the streets if they refuse. And offer of shelter. An Appeals Court ruled that people are not involuntarily homeless if they declined an offer of shelter. In december last year, a judge issued an injunction limiting the citys ability to clear homeless camps unless they could offer adequate shelter. Over half of unhoused individuals whom city workers are are making offers of shelter and services are refusing those offers. Or we know have shelter. Otherwise weve seen more people get into shelter through the cities. Theyve had basically a 10 bump in shelter placements as city workers will now be instructed on how to follow the courts order in clearing homeless camps. Governor newsom signed a bill prohibiting book bans in Public Schools under the bill. California Public School districts would face fines if they ban books related to gender or race. And it takes effect immediately. Advocates say banning books, silences, free speech and hurts marginalized communities. The Governors Office has not given any indication on whether he will sign it into law or veto it. San francisco supervisor joel engel is leading the push to bring back algebra in middle school. Now the school board voted ten years ago to delay algebra until high school to help underrepresented students. But critics say the move has students who are more advanced in their learning. Many are coming home to little more than ashes. Local Officials Say theyve been out in force trying to help anxious homeowners with the logistics. But the main focus at this point is Mental Health may be collecting information, photographs for insurance purposes. But most important is getting that closure for many of them that left in the midst of the fire. This is going to be the first opportunity to go back and really see whats left.
