Teacher strike in San Francisco. Educators vote on whether to authorize that strike. The reason negotiations have reached such a critical point. Live from jack, London Square this is morning on two the nine. Welcome back to the nine. Its so good to see sunshine in along that gorgeous oakland estuary. We can see the city and the fa back there on the left. And its a gorgeous day to get out and do your thing. But if youre stuck at work, dont worry, theres some advice for employers on making work a little more pleasant. More than 80 of workers nationwide say they experienced burnout at at the office. This according to a survey from the american heart association. Burnout largely comes from prolonged unaddressed work related stress, and doctors say that could make you more prone to conditions such as heart disease, stroke, anxiety and depression. Now, to help prevent burnout, the study authors have some guidelines for employers to follow. They say align employee skill sets with job tasks. Define clear job roles and responsibilities, limit work related tech use after work hours and advocate for Employee Support groups. Can i tell you when we were all sent home at like a moments notice during the very beginning of the pandemic, i felt so strange. I was used to seeing you guys every day talking about things and sharing lunch and all that. And i thought, oh my gosh, its just me and im home and alone and your husband and kids. But its not the same as this delicious stew we make every single day. And its been a couple of months. And i was talking with one of our managers and she goes, oh, theres this all hands zoom meeting that were doing and you should try to attend. I said, oh, i have a im doing an interview and i cant. And she goes, you know what . You should just come if for nothing else to see. Everyone in the newsroom. And im so glad that she pressed me a little bit because of that, i decided to move the interview. I showed up to that zoom call and it was like a family reunion, right . So she knew exactly what i needed. And im glad she said it. Those were the days, werent they . You know, we were looking for some sort of connection, but the burnout thing, you know, clearly defined roles is really an important thing. You know, just understanding what it is that youre supposed to be doing instead of just like this chaotic ball of chaos at work every day. Right its just not good. You know, you want to have things organized, you know, and we you know, our work, you know, we could say breaking news is happening and everything, you know, gets thrown into chaos. So those days are fine, but not like every day when youre just going through your normal day, the ones that kind of stress. And thats why good managers insist on you taking time off every once in a while. Yes, absolutely. Absolutely. Talk about whats happening in the greater world, steve paulson, by taking a peek out the window, that helps us feel a little bit better getting out in the sunshine as well. What do you say about weather and maybe some changes that youre tracking . No burnout for me or sal getting up at 230 in the morning, right. So hard. All right. Yes, there are changes. Thank you, gasia. And everyone, a little cooler here compared to 24 hours ago. It was around nine degrees earlier. Now its about two or 3 or 4 degrees. But we will make up ground later today. Cold this morning. I mean, for this time of year east of tomales dropped to 40 sonoma 42 not on the square but just outside old town morgan hill, 43. San anselmo was 44. Orinda dropped down there. Pinole danville and woodside all checked in at 45. It is severe clear as we like to say. So its sunny and temperatures today will start to bump up in the hills. We have a little northerly breeze. Its not roaring, but its enough there. 50s on these temps and a little northerly breeze will translate into some warmer temps beginning to see that move. Now, some low 60s for a few back hills in there. Brentwood, mid for most i think were done with the 40s except for that Point Reyes Station theyre probably in the low 50s by now so the High Pressure is over us today combined with that northerly breeze means temps go up, skies are clear. Were in between systems. Its a changing forecast fast, though. I mean, were going to start to see now today is all about sunshine. Well start to see increasing clouds tomorrow, late friday and early saturday. If theres any rain, it looks to be marin county, north. Otherwise, i think sunday into monday could be a tough call. It could be warm south, could be partly to mostly cloudy north. But ill deal with it tomorrow. Today a few 60s, a lot of 70s coast and bay upper 70s to a few low 80s. It looks nice today. Sunshine oh, plenty as we like to say. And temperatures are a little bit above average tomorrow though, well start to increase the clouds. Take that into saturday, sunday, monday. If youre south, could be warm. If youre north, could be a lot of cloud cover. You guys. All right, steve, thank you. California Highway Patrol and Police Agencies were involved in three different high speed chases all across the bay area. New this morning, ktvu Bailey Ocarroll joins us now from oakland with details about how each crash started and how the chase started and how they ended. Bailey hey, sal, good morning. Thats right. Tracking not traffic like you do, rather a whole lot of crashes this morning. And even in one yesterday. The first one i want to talk about started in San Francisco before the driver of that car took off here on the bay bridge headed towards oakland at a rate of triple digit speeds. Leads. Now, we do not know exactly how that one ended. So some details still unknown there, but there was another chase that started just about the same time, though, in west oakland. And then it ended in east oakland. So i want to show you some video of that. We were out at the scene this morning. This is where it ended in east oakland. Chp telling me nine minors. Yeah, nine minors were in a stolen car. Two of them took off on foot when that chase did come to an end, seven of them were released to their parent or guardian and three are being recommended to be charged by the da. Thankfully no one was hurt. Now, i did talk to a chp officer who was there for the tail end of that chase. He did tell me that multiple chp cars were hit and damaged. A couple other non chp cars excuse me, were also damaged. Where that crash came to an end. Again, he really reiterated just how much of a good thing it is that none of those kids, those minors were injured because he said it is likely that majority of them, if not all of them, probably were not wearing a seatbelt. At one point, they were on a freeway hitting triple digit speeds. Now, i want to go to the next crash. Its or excuse me, pursuit. It is the third chase. It happened on highway 24. This is footage of that that we did capture this morning. Sheriffs told me the car was likely a stolen car. We watched as multiple groups of Law Enforcement sped by in pursuit of that vehicle, heading westbound officers say that they lost sight of that car somewhere close to the 980 or 880. Now, all of this comes just one day after skyfox captured this video. Yet another High Speed Pursuit that Dodge Challenger was linked to a shooting near 73rd and fresno in east oakland. They did end up going to orinda in back on that chase through to the tunnel crashing on highway 24. The suspect attempted to take off on foot after crashing on the highway, but all three were arrested. Now, i did ask that chp officer in oakland if theres anything new that theyre going after or an explanation as to why there have been so many of these chases in such a short amount of time. He said nothing new. Its kind of just luck of the draw. Its what the day brought. Reporting live in oakland, im Bailey Ocarroll. Ktvu fox two news. Bailey thank you. As the days get cooler, more people are retreating indoors. But Health Experts are sounding the alarm, warning that this shift may bring out an increased risk of illness, including covid 19 and the flu. And that could lead to a triple demic with those two viruses plus rsv circulating this winter. Doctors say its important to take precautions now to protect yourself and your loved ones. So joining us now is dr. Mandy cohen, who is the director of the centers for Disease Control and prevention. Dr. Cohen, thank you for joining us this morning. Andre great to be here in the bay area. All right. So dr. Cohen, what brings you here to the bay area . Well, so ive been in california this week talking about vaccination. The best way we can protect ourselves this fall and winter against those viruses you were just talking about. I got my updated Covid Vaccine in la yesterday. I got my flu shot just the other week in atlanta. So i want to make sure that particularly were talking to seniors, those who are over 65, making sure they get their flu shot and theyre updated. Covid vaccine, i wonder, was there some sort of a fall off in seniors getting that shot . Why do you why hyper focus on that segment of the population . Well, so we still see that our seniors are the ones who are getting the most sick from covid, getting into the hospital and frankly, still dying from covid. So they certainly need the vaccine. But the cdc is recommending this vaccine for everyone. Six months and up. Sadly no one is free of risk from covid still. And there is changes to the virus. So i know folks are saying ive gotten vaccinated before or ive had covid. But what folks need to understand is the virus has changed. So we need this updated vaccine and that your protection decreases over time. So join the 7 Million People whove already gotten their updated Covid Vaccine and get vaccinated so it changes similar to the flu, evolves and mutates over time, and covid does the same thing. Thats right. So flu changes every year, which is why we need an updated flu shot this fall as well. Same thing with covid. Whats your recommendation for covid 19 flu shot and rsv right now . What does the cdc telling americans to do . Well, october is the best time to get your flu vaccine. And this updated Covid Vaccine, if youre over 60 for the first time in history, we have a vaccine to protect you against rsv. And if youre a pregnant mom and youre between 32 and 36 weeks pregnant, you also have a vaccine you can get to protect your baby when theyre born from rsv. Can you get all those shots at the same time . You absolutely can get all those vaccines at the same time. Covid and flu together. Talk to your doctor about also adding rsv if youre over 60. I know this concern is going to be on peoples minds. Is there any risk right now . Is there any effects that we should be aware of for getting these vaccines . Well, look, the most common side effect is a real is a little bit of a sore arm. Ill say i got my Covid Vaccine yesterday. I have a little bit of a sore arm feeling fine otherwise. So get your Covid Vaccine and your updated flu shot. So heres the thing. A lot of people, you know, theyve been asked to take a lot of vaccines over the years. So the Kaiser Family Foundation Just did a study here. And i wanted to show the results of the study. It asks 1 in 4 adults previously who got the covid 19 vaccine and now say they do not plan on getting the new covid 19 vaccine. 45 of previously vaccinated will get the vaccine. 27 previously vaccinated will not. Does that 27 number concern you . Well first, i wouldnt recommend something for the american people. I wouldnt recommend for myself. Got the shot or for my family, my kids who are nine and 11 are getting the updated Covid Vaccine. My parents, who are over 65, my husband. So we recommend it for our own family. We want everyone to be safe. So we have these tools. We hope folks use them. Lets talk about kids right now. Another part of that same survey said also asked whether parents would get the latest vaccine for their kids, over half of parents say they wont get the new covid 19 vaccine. We can put that chart up on the screen right now for their child, 30 definitely get it, 26 probably get it. 25. Probably not get it. And 36 said definitely not get it. That number seems kind of high for parents. Well, look, i want parents to ask good questions of their pediatrician. So go ask have this conversation. Heres what as a mom of a nine and 11 year old, that changed my mind. And thinking about this was that when were seeing really sick kids in the hospital in the intensive care unit with covid and half of them dont have underlying conditions, meaning we dont know why they got so sick from covid. So if there is a safe and effective vaccine that can protect kids like my nine and 11 year old, i want to use it for my kids. And so i hope parents have that conversation with their pediatrician and choose to vaccinate their, in short, a preexisting condition. And half of these kids, they didnt have a preexisting condition that would have contributed to the severity of the sickness in their body. Thats right. They didnt have an underlying condition like asthma or something else. That would explain why they got so sick. And so if we dont know why some kids get so sick, lets get our kids vaccinated and protected. We know this vaccine is safe. Lets talk about the supply right now. Is there enough of the vaccine from the different makers out there right now to vaccinate everyone who wants one . Yeah the good news is plenty of vaccine out there. You know, there is a different process this year. So in past when we had our our vaccine purchased and distributed by the federal government, it was a different process. This year, the private sector is doing that. So youre going to be billing your insurance. Youre going to see it in in sort of the same way you got your flu shot. But theres plenty of vaccine out there now, it did take a few weeks for the private sector to sort of get the vaccine out there. But make make an appointment. Cvs walgreens, rite aid, your pharmacy or your doctors office. So call ahead and make sure theres vaccine for you. Lets talk about that hiccup that happened in the early days here just a few weeks ago. The Insurance Companies had not caught up yet with the paying for the vaccine. So is your Insurance Company right now or depends on your Insurance Company. Will they pay for it if you go to get it . Or do you have to pay for the vaccine ahead of time and then get reimbursed by your Insurance Company . So i want everyone to know there is a free vaccine, Covid Vaccine out there with your name on it. Either its covered by your insurance. You do need to understand if youre in network or out of network for your pharmacy. But if you go to an innetwork pharmacy, they are covering your insurance by by insurance. If you dont have insurance or your insurance doesnt fully cover it. The cdc is offering a program for free vaccines at places like cvs, walgreens or health departments. So go to vaccines. Gov to find those locations where you can get the free vaccine or your insurance should be covering it. Now, there are some computer things where they didnt update the codes. We think weve worked through that now, so no one should be needing to pay for this vaccine out of pocket. This is something that Insurance Companies should be paying for at this particular. Thats right. It should be just fine. And if they dont, again, program through the cdc for a free vaccine. Dr. Mandy cohen, director of the cdc, thank you so much for joining us this morning and stopping by. We know youre doing a tour and you have an event scheduled today where seniors are going to be getting vaccinated here in the bay area. So youre going to be appearing at that. Thats right. So were here to make sure seniors get vaccinated. Join the 7 Million People whove already rolled up their sleeves. All right, doctor, thank you so much. We appreciate it. All right. Thank you. Well, coming up on mornings on two, the nine, some progress has been made in electing the next house speaker. But there are some complications. Well talk live with a political analyst to see where the vote stands now. Also sr l ram travel. There is nothing like it dancing is my passion. But with my moderatetosevere eczema, it hasnt always been easy. I was constantly itching. Whatever i was doing now, im staying ahead of my eczema theres a power inside all of us to live our passion. Again after a private vote this week, louisiana representative Steve Scalise came out on top ahead of ohio representative jim jordan. But neither candidate has enough support for the 217 votes needed to become speaker with us now is david levine, who is a professor at uc law in San Francisco. And, you know, one of the things that i know that weve talked about a little bit is it its constitutional law that congress cant do anything without a speaker. So congress is kind of stopped. Thats right. And in light of whats going on in israel and ukraine, thats bad news. Thats absolutely right, sal. Yeah, the speaker of the house is written right into the constitution in and the way in which the house is operated is that without a formal speaker, they really cant move forward. Its just it leaves them disorganized and it hardly could come at a worse time. Theres so many things between foreign issues funding ukraine, funding israel, funding our military and then the domestic issues. Right now, were living under a continuin
