Looking for ahead of Opening Night against the phenix suns. Live from jack, london square, this is mornings on two. The knight. Well, today is tuesday, october 24th, and hes live across the bay area right now across the oakland estuary. You can see the fog. It is looking like it probably we usually look at this time of year and weve got cooler weather thats going to be moving in. Were going to check in with rosemary. Shes going to be here shortly to give us an update on that. All right. Meantime parents engaged in helicopter parenting more than they realize, and thats according to researchers from mott childrens hospital. Helicopter parenting refers to a parent style in which a parenting style in which parents do not allow their children to do much on their own. They found that 4 in 5 parents and children ages 9 to 11 believe its a good idea for their children to have free time without adult supervision, such as being home alone for the 30 minutes of the day to an hour. However, just three and five have allowed their children to do so. They found that the main reason behind this is because of safety issues, which is certainly certainly understandable. Welcome to the nine. I did not have helicopter parents per se, like they werent, you know, not in that way. Yeah, theyre very strict, but not helicopter parents. Right. So they like, you know, hell be fine at home alone for a little bit while we go do our walk home from school. These type of things. Store by yourself . I mean, you know, they wouldnt let us do anything crazy. They just normal stuff that you would do. Wed live three blocks from school, so we could walk, right . That type of thing. When were when were a little younger, but not, not what i see. Some parents do like constantly in their kids. I know, right . Stuff. I know. Its so hard. I love the idea of being i think they call it a free range parent where youre like, go outside and play. Come back when the streetlights come on. I mean, i talk that talk, but we are learning to walk that walk. The first time we left our boys at home, like we went to cvs, right . We were gone for maybe 20 minutes and they were so concerned. And, you know, what do we do if somebody knocks on the door . What do we do with the phone rings . And of course, i was like, what if the earthquake hits while were at cvs and like, for those 20 minutes that we were away, nothing happened, you know . So it was all in my mind. They were fine back in the day, you know, we didnt have cell phones, so our parents had to leave a leave numbers for like my grandmothers house or where they were going to be. And so that way we can call them if we need anything. Yeah, im with you, though. The first time we left our daughter, you know, was old enough for a 20 minute little. She had to know everything. Cell phone, you know what happens. And its like she wanted to know this. She wanted shes very cautious. And we were like, are you sure going to walgreens for that . 20 . You know, my wife and i were like, it was a test. But you know what it told me . I said, the fact that our boys were so concerned about us leaving them for 20 minutes tells me we need to leave them more often. Right. Because at the age that we finally left them. Yeah. I was like, oh, my gosh, at your age, i remember like, did your parents ever leave you in the car and run into the Grocery Store . 22 at the time . No, i was kidding. They were like, this was last week. No, im joking. But i remember my mom. Shed leave us in the car, shed run into luckys. And i dont think ive ever done that to my sons. Theyd probably never done that. Yeah. Look, my mom goes into the supermarket for sure. Im going for real quick, for five minutes, and shell be in for an hour. Im like, i stopped going inside. Ill wait in the car. Shes like, forget it all good, good, good, good. All right, lets focus on a story that really is unfolding in a dramatic fashion in the east bay. Its a harrowing idea of what investigators say happened aboard a jet that was heading to sfo recently that could have ended in disaster. Ctvs Amanda Quintana live in Pleasant Hill. This is where an off duty pilot, amanda, who lives in that city, is accused of trying to kill the engine of a plane midflight. Right yeah, thats right. Garcia so 44 year old Joseph Emerson, hes being held in oregon without bail. Hes going to be in court today. Expected in court at 2 00 today. Hes facing. 167 charges, 83 of those charges are related to attempted murder. There are other charges for reckless endangerment. Now, emerson is accused of trying to seize control of the engines midflight. He was seated in the flight deck jump seat and was off duty at the time. Alaska Airlines Says he tried to engage whats called the engine fire handle. This would turn on the planes Fire Suppression system and shut down the engines. The flight crew reported a credible Security Threat as they were on their way to sfo from everett, washington. And they had to land in portland in record from the cockpit. You could hear the captain report the issue to air Traffic Control and ask for police when they land and okay, ill just give you a heads up. Weve got the guy that tried to shut the engines down out of the cockpit. Um, and he doesnt sound like hes causing any issue in the back right now. I think hes subdued. Were told to emerson taught at concords Buchanan Field Airport and coaches his sons Baseball Team here in Pleasant Hill. We spoke to some of his neighbors about him and they describe him as a family man and say what theyre hearing in these reports is out of character for him. Some say they hope this was all a misunderstanding. And we visit with them every now and then. I see joe all the time. You know, working in the garage or doing something. I go and talk to him and he seems your typical normal guy when heard the news. Im like, what . You know, were still doubting. I mean, but is he the real guy. As for the 80 passengers, many of them were unaware of what was happening. One woman posting on ex saying a Flight Attendant came on the speaker to say they needed to make an emergency landing. And when they did, she saw Police Officers come onto the plane and take emerson off in handcuffs. She says at one point there was an announcement that there was a, quote, disturbance in the cockpit and a, quote, mental breakdown. She didnt really understand what had happened until she saw the news. Once she got off the plane, those passengers were able to get a later flight to get to sfo. Were told the fbi is in charge of this investigation and were waiting to find out something about a motive while weve been here, our crews were here yesterday. They havent seen any federal officers here at the home. And its been kind of quiet all morning. But we actually did just see this one car pull up. So it looks like somebody might be home. But we will continue to follow this story and update you when we get more today. Live in Pleasant Hill, Amanda Quintana, ktvu fox two news. Amanda thank you.
