People around the world, ofucourse, celebrating saint day on this march 17th and new figures from the u. S. Census bureau indicate you will be seeing plenty ofc people wearing green today in california. It found this state is home to more than 2. 2 Million People who have direct tiesuto ireland. Thats more than any other state in the country. California narrowly edged out new york, and the number of people who say they have some irish roots. All right. And Saint PatricksDay Celebrations are in full swing once again this year. And what a better place to celebrate than in ireland itself. Lets take you there to the heart of it all, because travelzoos Senior Editor gabe sadlier always very lucky. Always. In dublin, ireland, it seems during Saint Patricks day he is along the route of one of the largestc Saint Patricks day spparades in the world. Gabe its a busy time out there. uyou are people wanting to celebrate this day. No doubt about that. Claudine. I think that the official tally has yet to come, but there are forecasting about 650,000 people that who lined the streets here of dublin to check out what is the national Saint Patricks day parade here case, if we hit 650,000, that will set a record that will be the biggest at dublin Saint Patricks day parade ever. This is only the second largest, second only to the one they throw out there in new york city. But whats great about this one, claudine, is that it is a global phenomenon. Ive met people from all over the usa and of course great britain, italy, spain, india. I mean the number of people who come here from outside is quite phenomenal. A lot of first timers, and these to are going to make this aoing thing, you knowl their be on their to do list here for years to come. Yeah, it sounds awesome. Can you talk about because i know youve been there before, the energy and what you know when youre talking come from the usy all over the world, why they come here . I mean, certainly it looks like a good time. 650,000. Those are your, im sure, closest friends. Gabe theyve become my closest friends, for sure. Its just after 2 p. M. Out here in dublin. So the parade just now wrapping up, it started at high noon and yeah, like you guys mentioned it, i mean, this the emotional connection between the us and ireland is almost palpable. About 40 million americans in heritage, 70 million around the world. So yeah, the idea that Saint Patricks day now becomes a great excuse to come out out here, celebrate the national holiday, celebrate irelands patron saint. But for a lot of folks ive met here, they will stick around. Theyll spend thec rest of the week now traveling across to northern ireland, west to the wild, atlantic way, going south, it becomes sort of an excuse to sort of be hereufor a couple of days, tap into the energy, and rest of the country as you know, if youre there in the bay area, air lingus has that nonstop flight out of sfo to dublin, met in the thick of the action. A lot of fun. I want to show you our crane shot because weve had a beautiful camera up above showcasing downtown dublin. This been here. Oconnell street, spwhich slices, just down, beautiful downtown dublin, and starting to disperse 4000 plus participants in the parade. And as street. Thats a lot of people. You know, gabe, when youre talking about. Yes ofucourse, if youre going to cross the pond, you really should, you know, make a week of it at least. And certainly thats a good economic boom for ireland. You talked about how some of these festivities are actually kind of new in ireland, different ways to celebrate. Can you talk about what you would see dont see he . Certainly we have a lot of parades here and a lot of, as you mentioned, irish heritage. What are you seeing specifically in dublin and these festivities that are unique . Well, i think what i because this marks my 12th year. Claudine actually out here for the saint pattys day parade in dublin and ive seen it certainly grow now 2020, exactly four years cancel with days to goc are coming out here. And since then, now every year since 202q, the crowds have grown. It was about 500,000 last year, 650,000 now. So partc of this is really this notion that this is now wide open to international travelers. And a great way to heritage. You know whats very popular here are some of these, genealogical opportunities here. Theres the epic museum. Theres a couple of these places where you can go in search for your family crest, your roots, your, you, your heritage out here, i just found out last year that my mom is 2 irish, which makes me a little irish, too. So at thec ed of the day, its. Yeah, its a chance to sort of, you know, prove to yourself that you felt like hey, maybe you are, in fact, and at the end rolled out. Theres that pervasive hospitality, which is always very part of. Well, gabe, it looks like always appreciate when you check in from across the pond. And certainly on Saint Patricks day. Enjoy your 12th year out there. We appreciate it. You got it, claudine. When you get back, look at that. You see a suit . Its a green suit. Ct that green. But with the four leaf doesngtt mess around. Well done. Does not mess around. He is a veteran of the celebration years. So my question for both you, claudine, and for you, rosemary, when youre thinking about 650,000upeopleuthat are going to be there, would youc do it . Yes but isnt that too many at some point, you know, isnt that just kind ofl well, i think uncomfortable. So heres what i think. I wouldnt do it if it was here. Right. Because it feels like a really, you know, big event to like cover. We would probably cover it as we think about work. Of work. Its a lot. Hats a lot but i think when you make a trip like your mindset is, all right, im going to dive in deep there. Im going to stay close to wherever. And you plan it, you invest in it, and then you just reallyusink into it. Youre orl you know, anything else. C yu are like, im going to fly across the pond. Going to sit in. I guess its d
